One of those days

July 9, 2007 by Tricia

I’m having one of those days again.

I wasn’t able to sleep last night because I was feeling so ill and try as I might I couldn’t even fall asleep during the day. It wasn’t until after my husband came home from work – perhaps around 7 pm that I finally fell asleep for a couple of hours.

That’s right – a couple of hours. I think I need to have more that a couple of hours sleep every 24 to 30 hours don’t you?

Surprisingly, while my stomach doesn’t feel all that great, I don’t feel too out of it despite my lack of sleep.

I probably only have a short window time to feel clear headed before the tiredness and wooziness hit me again. Hopefully I’ll be able to sleep longer when it does!

Trying to lose weight? Visit Diet Direct

July 9, 2007 by Tricia

Are you thinking of starting a diet? It’s as good a time as any isn’t it? Well if you are dieting or if you are interested in losing weight you might want to visit Diet Direct.

The creators of this website wanted to build a site where those interested in dieting could purchase top quality diet and weight loss products.

Diet Direct carries a number of well know weight loss products such as WonderSlim, Nature’s Best, ProtiDiet, Syntrax, Protein Rite, Bariatric Lifestyle and many more well known name brands. You’ll also find Protein diet foods, diet pills and patches, supplements and health specific products such as products for the cold and flu, womens health, digestion, and bone and joint health.

Diet direct also weight loss kits. You can purchase the 1 week starter plan right up to a 12 week weight loss kit. The staff at Diet Direct will even help you put together a weight loss start kit that will meet your unique needs. The prices seem fairly reasonable for the starter kits as well.

If you take a moment to visit the site scroll to the bottom of the page. In the bottom of the left menu you’ll see a section marked Diet Articles. I counted 25 articles that range from ones that help to motivate a dieter, to discussing various types of diets, and how to maintain a diet during seasonal holidays or while on vacation. I’m sure you’ll find an article or two that hits a chord with you.

Diet Direct even has a blog at DietWeight.com. There’s lots of posts in it that contain helpful dieting tips. If you need a little motivation check out the blog.

All in all this seems to be a very well thought out site from the products that are available to those who are currently dieting or thinking about a weight loss plan, to the blog and the helpful weight loss related articles. The only thing that might be missing from the site is a dieting and weight loss forum. Perhaps Diet Direct doesn’t need a forum but it would certainly add to the site.

Visit Diet Direct and see what you think.

Entertaining friends at home with a friendly game of pool

June 27, 2007 by Tricia

When my husband and I used to live in our apartment we lived in a very active area of Toronto. We were within walking distance of night clubs, fantastic restaurants, small retail stores that sold everything from gift items to beautiful antiques, and a no less than four bars that had pool tables.

If we weren’t out with friends, our friends were at our house often enjoying one of my gourmet dinners. We enjoyed entertaining. We still do but we do less entertaining lately.

Now, I’m not a very good pool player. I believe it has something to do with me being left handed, but I could be wrong about that, I just might be bad at it. Still, I enjoy playing, and I enjoy watching my husband play. He’s very good.

When we lived in the apartment we’d go to one of the bars that had pool tables approximately once a week. We’d walk over with a couple of friends, have a few drinks and play a few games. It was fun and I have good memories of those times.

There is a pool hall and a really nice bar with pool tables within walking distance of our house, but I’d say we only go out to play pool once a month or less these days.

As I’ve said before Chris and I are in the process of renovating our home. One of the areas up for renovating is our basement. It’s not finished at all. We’d like to make the basement into a rec room or den which may or may not contain a bedroom.

When we’ve talked about what we want out of the basement when it’s finished one of the things that’s come up a few times is my husbands desire to have a pool table. He wants to be able to play darts too but the ceiling is so low it’s dangerous! I think a pool table would be fine down there though. Our friends would certainly enjoy it if we had a pool table since our home is still considered an entertainment hub amongst our friends.

I’m discussing pool tables right now because I’ve just visited BostonTables.com and they have a lovely selection of well made pool tables. Take a look at this beautiful model:

Boston Tables specializes in Pool Tables, Game Tables and accessories. They are actually a national company that operates in multiple States. They ship throughout all of the United States via their Columbus Ohio distribution center.

If you’ve ever considered getting a pool table for your home it might be a good idea to take a look at their selection right now as they are having a sale. Almost all of the pool tables that are shown on the page that I linked to earlier are priced under $2000.

If Chris and I were to get a pool table I’d certainly want one of a similar design as the image above. Isn’t that gorgeous? I love the shape of the legs and the beautiful wood that’s been used. It would actually suit the style of our 1927 house and the way I’ve furnished some of the rooms.

It’s too bad that we don’t already have a pool table. One of our old friends will be staying with us this weekend and some of the best times I’ve had with this guy have been while playing pool with him. He’s quite the character.

Actually we’re going to have guests all summer long. Chris’ brother and one of his boys are coming from Chicago the in a week, and in early August his other two children will be coming to stay with us for a couple of weeks.

Now wouldn’t it be great to have a pool table to entertain our guests?

It’s certainly something fun to do, and staying in rather than going out to bars to play pool would save some money too. Actually come to think of it, with the money that you could save by going out less often and entertaining at home instead the pool table would practically pay for itself in no time.

Hmmm the idea sounds more and more appealing doesn’t it?

Medicine the way it’s supposed to be practiced

June 26, 2007 by Tricia

Living in Canada and working in the health care field I can’t complain too much about our health care system. Well … sure you can always complain about something, but considering that people in other parts of the world don’t have access to health care I really can’t complain much.

Now, having said that, I know that the US health care system is very different that my own. I know that you generally need to have health insurance to get access to services that you need, and sometimes HMO’s don’t allow their clients to see the doctors that they want to see, or to have the tests that have been recommended.

Now I’m not going to get into all of that as that would be a huge post in itself. However what I did want to tell you about does have something to do with the level of service you might currently be experiencing.

If you are tired of not being able to see the doctors that you think you should be seeing, or not being able to see your doctor as often as you think you need to then you might want to take a look at the services provided by MDVIP.

MDVIP provides a service that’s somewhat like having your own concierge doctors. Even doctors seem to enjoy working with MDVIP because they can spend whatever amount of time they need to with each patient, they can counsel their patients properly about diseases and disorders that they have, or that they are at risk of getting because they have time to sit down and talk with each patient, and they don’t have to worry about tests and other services being declined by outside HMO’s.

Think about it from the patient side of things. Wouldn’t it be nice to make an appointment with your doctor to talk over all the symptoms you might be having? To actually sit down and get a full understanding of a disorder that you might have recently been diagnosed as having? Instead of being handed a pamphlet and being told that you’ll hear from another service about treatment?

Physicians at MDVIP focus on preventative medicine which is why they take the time to explain things to their patients and discuss concerns so that they can better evaluate a patient, their progress and their risk for future ailments and try to prevent those diseases or disorders from happening.

The doctors limit their practice to only 600 patients so that they can devote the proper amount of care and time to each individual in their practice.

As a patient you’ll get the MDVIP yearly physical which is a complete physical, a personalized wellness plan, same or next day appointments that last as long as needed, and access to your physician through a 24 hour pager or cell phone.

To me, this sounds like medicine the way it’s always been supposed to be practiced.

Please visit the MDVIP site to learn more about their services to see if this is a service that would suit your needs.

Esnailer lets you send real letters to people

June 26, 2007 by Tricia

More than likely some of you reading this are too young to remember the days before the internet and email came into our lives, but for those of us who had to find other ways to communicate with friends and loved ones before email became so popular letters and phone calls were the main modes of communicating with others who lived far away.

It is nice when you receive a letter in the mail, or a card from someone that’s just writing to say hello, isn’t it?

I think getting a letter or card from someone these days is much more special now than it was 15 or 20 years ago. Do you feel that way too?

If you want to send formal correspondence to your friends and loved ones, but perhaps don’t have quite as much time as you’d like to do this, ESnailer.com has come up with a great way of sending real letters to people.

Just go to the ESnailer.com website and start writing a letter to a friend or loved one. EnSnailer will print your letter, tuck it in an envelope and place a stamp on it and send it off to the recipient via regular US postal mail free of charge.

So it’s just like sending an email but the person that you’ve written to will have the thrill of receiving an actual letter.
