Stressed and tired? That’s me

July 24, 2007 by Tricia

I’m feeling kind of wiped out today. Actually I was feeling that way yesterday too.

I think I’m still fighting the flu that my husband had last week – I think I’ve had a touch of it, but no where near as bad as he had it. Which of course I’m thankful for since I have Crohns and if I got the flu as bad as he did I’d probably end up in the hospital!

Also, all the stress of my sites being down – writing to two web hosting companies and waiting for replies from support which can take hours and hours wore me down too.

I really am pleased that my sites are finally working again though. Now, if I could get some decent rest I’ll be ready for anything again!

Actually I have some built up work for advertisers that I’m going to spend the evening working on. I might just take a tiny rest first though so my head will be clearer and with any luck my posts will be better.

What makes you happy?

July 24, 2007 by Tricia

Did you know that the word Genki means happy in Japanese?

I often think of things that make me happy. Perhaps that’s a side effect of being stuck at home due to my Crohn’s and being in pain a lot of the time. Considering my circumstances I think overall I’m a fairly happy and positive person.

If I think about it I can find happiness easily. It doesn’t take much. What kinds of things make you happy? I know that one of my blogging friends, Robyn, is full of happiness because she’s just purchased a beautiful home for her family. Security and living space, a new beginning. Yes I’d imagine that those things would make many people happy.

Gazing out my kitchen window at my backyard – seeing all the birds in the feeder or flitting from plant to plant, butterflies and bumble bees doing pretty much the same as the birds, but to flowers, squirrels chasing one another, and just seeing my many flowers in bloom or the pretty foliage in my garden. Those are things that make me happy.

When I take photographs, particularly of flowers, I’m actually trying to show you what makes me happy. I’m amazed at the loveliness of plants and the amazing things they do, the whole blooming process, the patterns within leaves or even within flower petals. I try to show you what I see and what amazes me when I post some of my photos.

I guess I’m a very outdoors oriented person because as I sit here and try to think of things other than family and friends that make me happy I keep thinking of outdoor things.

Being in a canoe, especially on fast or white water. The smell of cut grass. The fragrance of a rose or pretty much any flower or foliage that produces a scent. A sunset or sunrise. The way clouds look when they are dark, or when the sun passes through them. A rainbow after a rain storm, or walking in the warm rain. These are things that make me happy.

A child’s smile, or the sound of children laughing. My husband laughing. Helping others, especially when I’m working as a nurse. Chocolate – anything chocolate. Yes these are things that make me happy.

Today I’m happy and relieved that my sites are back up and running! Does that make you happy too?

Massive headache

July 20, 2007 by Tricia

Yesterday, all day, I had a massive headache. It just would not go away. I took Tylenol several times and it didn’t really help. It helped my fevers – fevers that I have almost daily anyway, but it didn’t take the headache away.

I’d say the headache lasted for more than 24 hours! I have no idea how I managed to get any posting done yesterday, but to be honest my work was done at a drastically slower pace than normal.

I think I must be fighting the flu bug that my husband brought home with him on Wednesday. He’s almost better today, but I’m deteriorating. I actually fell asleep on the couch in the night and couldn’t rouse myself until 4 pm today!

That’s not good.

I think I still have the remnants of a headache hanging around but for the most part it’s pretty much gone.

I just hope it doesn’t come back, and that if I’m fighting Chris’ flu bug that I’m successful in my fight. Living with Crohns and getting the flu could be a very bad thing!

The flu or something

July 19, 2007 by Tricia

Chris came home sick from work yesterday. He’d worked all day feeling awful and was still feeling terrible by the time he got home that evening. It seems that it’s a flu bug or something – you know fever, sweats, sore muscles and joints plus the ever embarrassing crampy tummy and runs.

He had a really high fever a few times through the night and didn’t end up going to work today. Good idea actually since he works in the OR recovery room. Those people don’t need to be exposed to virus’.

He actually thought he was getting better by this afternoon, but his neck really started to ache a little while ago and I felt his forehead and sure enough his fever had returned. I’m not sure he’ll be going to work tomorrow if this keeps up.

As much as I feel bad for Chris I’m also in “Stay Away” mode. Considering that I have Crohn’s and it’s an autoimmune disease I’ll likely end up getting what he’s got. Usually when I get sick it’s a much worse version than those who’ve had it before me so I’m looking at him with dread.

I do think I might be getting the bug too because I’m headache and achy. I certainly hope I can fight this before it hits!

What’s for dinner?

July 13, 2007 by Tricia

I think I’m going to cook a nice dinner tonight. I feel like we haven’t been eating well over the last week or so.

I’ve been so tired and not feeling well that I just haven’t felt like cooking so we’ve made really easy stuff. Well … Chris has, and uhm, if I guy can’t cook well I’m pretty sure you know the types of things he’ll make – grilled cheese, soup, macaroni … we’ve even had some take out food too. Yup, we’ve been eating bad. I don’t really like those foods when I’m feeling well and I hate them when I’m sick.

Tonight I think I’ll pull out the nice cookware and maybe make a nice chicken dinner with lots of veggies or a veggie packed salad.

Actually I think I’ll go out into the garden later and see if I can find some tomatoes. Chris and I had a tiny tom or cherry tomato – one each, the other day. Those were the first tomatoes from the garden and the taste of that single one stayed with me for at least an hour. It was so good. Hopefully there’s a few more ripe ones out there. The large tomatoes aren’t ready yet unfortunately.

What are you going to cook tonight? Something tasty or something fast?
