My Karma List

November 13, 2006 by Tricia

Do you ever watch “My Name Is Earl”? You know he’s written out a list of all the bad things that he’s done in his life and in each episode he picks an item from his list in order to try to right the wrong he did in the past. He does this to try to bring good Karma into his life – and when he fails everything goes wrong around him.

I’m sure that everyone could write a list of wrongs that they have done to others. I don’t think that anyone is good enough not to have done something to bad or mean to another.

I thought I’d try to write out a karma list for myself:

1. I used to go into my parents liquor cabinet and take a little bit of alcohol from each bottle, pouring it into a coke bottle or can to make an occasional drink to share with my friends when my parents weren’t around or when I was going out to a party. Sorry!

2. I also used to top of those alcohol bottles with water to bring the level back up. Sorry for the weak drinks you might have had Mom and Dad.

3. I had a few parties when my parents when out of town as well. One they found out about, and at least one they didn’t know about. Man I was a bad girl.

4. Might as well say sorry for going downtown to party when I was as young as 14, but looking like an 18 year old, then going over the bridge to Hull where the drinking age is 18 to party over there till 4 or 5 am. Sorry again mom and Dad.

Hmmm I can’t think of any other things that I did that were really bad. Perhaps grumbling about my old lady next door neighbor since I know she’s just lonely, but she spies on me and it drives me nuts.

What would an item on your karma list be?

The Doctor is in and he is healthy

Dr. JH Nicolas Climbing Rose:

gorgeous Dr JH Nicholas

I thought that since I’ve been on a bit of a doctor and nurse kick this week I might as well introduce you to the only rose I own with the title of doctor. LOL

Dr. JH Nicolas and I had a very tenuous beginning. I planted him in my front flower bed the first year that I got him, but he didn’t grow much. The front flower bed tends to be drier than the other garden beds because of the roof over hang above it. This bed is also on the North side of the house so the light is not as bright either. At any rate, Dr. JH Nicolas wasn’t growing and with it being I climbing rose I knew something was not right.

The following spring the doctor was not looking good. Most of my other roses had leave buds or even leaves by sometime that April. When the doctor still didn’t have leaf buds by May I thought it was a goner. One of the branches near the base had some green on it though so I decided to dig it up and place it in the back garden. I admit I didn’t think it would live and I planted it almost behind another rose.

Well the little guy thrived in it’s new home. This year, it’s second year in it’s new garden bed it grew to 7 or so feet tall and bloomed a good portion of the season. It might even still have some blooms right now.

So I guess the moral of my story is Don’t give up on your Doctor. Ban am bam

This weeks Theme is Growth

Next year, these sunflower seeds will become beautiful tall sunflowers.

Well the seeds that the birds and squirrels don’t get will grow up to be sunflowers. Each year I end up with dozens of sunflowers growing in my boulevard garden. I either pluck them out or move them toward the back (edge closed to the road) so that I can maintain the order of my little boulevard garden.

In the ground they will grow until they become towering plants with thick stalks and multiple blooms – just like this one.

Gorgeous aren’t they?

I still haven’t cut down the stalks from this summers growth yet. I will have to get that done this week because before I know it snow will be here. Through the winter I’ll spend some time looking at these sunny photos. It will help me get through the darkest coldest days.

Please leave a link if you are a Photo Scavenger Hunt participant. If you aren’t your link will be removed. Comments of course are always welcome.

Puppy Love

November 8, 2006 by Tricia

Aren't we Adorable

Does anyone know what kind of puppies these two little ones are? OMG aren’t they adorable? I love puppies – even better than I like kittens.

I always wanted to have a puppy when I was a little girl but my parents wouldn’t let me. One of my older brothers was allergic to dogs, cats and whatever else that moved. I was deprived! In the end it was probably a good thing that I didn’t have a dog of my own because it turns out that I’m allergic to dogs, cats and birds too.

Such a tragedy really, I would have made such a good mommy to a little puppy. Do you feel sorry for me yet?

Happy Wednesday!

Stella d’Ora Daylily

I know this is a very common daylily but it’s still one of my favorites. It blooms like crazy all summer long, doesn’t mind being in a slightly shadey spot, and it doesn’t take over the whole garden either. Although if my clumps wanted to spread out a bit more than they have I wouldn’t complain.

Most daylilies only bloom once or twice per season. There are few that bloom regularly throughout the summer months, nor many that tolerate partial shade to bright sun which makes it an easy garden plant; and for this reason I would recommend the Stella d’Ora daylily for beginners or gardeners who want lots of blooms but don’t want to fuss over their plants.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Please Only list your name if you have a recent Green Thumb Sunday post. Non participants links will be removed. Please don’t link and Run as that is very rude.
