Small Fuschia flowers

I really enjoy having some potted fuchsia around in the summer. I usually have one or two in hanging baskets on the front porch and at least one in the garden on the patio.

I think these Fuchsia might be a slightly different variety than I normally get. The flowers are not quite as big as I’ve had on other plants in other years. I guess they are about an inch long, but I think my past Fuchsias were at least a half inch bigger. These smaller ones are kind of cute though.

Do you like Fuchsia plants? What other tropicals do you like growing in the summer?

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

I’m thinking of holding a contest

September 8, 2007 by Tricia

I’m thinking of holding a contest, but I haven’t figured out just what I want to do or how I want to do it yet.

I’ve done some contests in the past, but I haven’t held one for a long time! Contests I’ve held in the past have been caption contests for amusing photos. I think I want to do something different this time round since caption contests are fairly subjective. What I think is a great caption others might not agree with – those kind of contests are probably best done with a few judges.

Whatever I do, there will be a prize involved. I’m thinking of giving away $50. The winner will have to have a paypal account.

What would you do to win $50? Write a post about my site? Or maybe I could come up with a few phrases to fit into a post – however you want and the best post would win? I could have site visitors vote on the posts? What do you think? Is $50 a good prize?

Give me some ideas and suggestions please.

Actually, if this works out well maybe I’ll do a contest on EACH of our blogs. Hmmm that would give readers of my husband and I’s blogs NINE chances to win some money. I’d be a chunk out of my pocket change, but if it increased readership or RSS subscribers it would be worth it.

I’m missing out

September 8, 2007 by Tricia

I’m not feeling well again today. Are you as sick of hearing that as I am?

It’s a real drag. I had plans for the day. Exciting plans.

I wanted to go downtown and perhaps see one of the films being shown at the Toronto Film Festival. If I couldn’t get into one of the films I’d planned to walk around the area where the majority of films and parties were being held to see if I could spot some stars.

Naturally I would have had my camera with me to take photographs of the stars.

The other thing that I had on the agenda was to plant some plants that I purchased last week. I bought some beautiful carnations, some very cool looking daisies, two different colors of Heather, and some kale and ornamental cabbage plants. I love the last two in the fall as they get quite colorful when the weather gets cool and look very attractive in the garden.

Oh and we also wanted to get some fire glass for our gas fireplace. Man is that stuff cool. We’ve got to get some by the time autumn comes around and we start using the fireplace more often.

Well there’s still tomorrow. Actually the film festivals on all week so there’s lots of time for me to get downtown to do some film and star sightings. I suspect some of the best sightings might be this weekend though.

Time to add some divine metal wall art to my plain walls

September 7, 2007 by Tricia

Summers almost over and if you live in a climate that cools down in the autumn you’ll soon be spending more time indoors. I don’t know about you, but during Fall and Winter I tend to look around my house and ideas start brewing as to how I can redecorate to make it look even nicer. I know I’m not the only one who does this – I know people who rearrange their furniture and put out new wall decor and accessories two or three times a year!

We’re renovating our living room and dining room and I’m getting antsy to finish the rooms with accessories that I’ve had stored in boxes in the basement. I’m hoping that sometime in the next two months I’ll finally be able to make these rooms my own. We have a lot of items to accessorize the living room and dining room but I’ve never really decorated the walls in this house or my former apartment. The main reason why we never put up wall art was that our apartment had concrete walls and it was just too hard to hang anything and well, in this house we’re in the midst of renovations so we just haven’t been able to decorate yet.

viborgmetalwallart.gif Now I’m busy looking for wall art. I happened to visit an online store called Wall Decor and Home Accents. This store has a lovely selection of divine metal wall art in a variety of shapes and sizes that would make any wall look spectacular.

I really like the piece that’s called Viborg Metal Wall Art. It’s the photo that I’ve included above – isn’t that interesting? Some might think that it has an abstract modern look and I’d agree, but the piece also reminds me of nature with it’s shades of brown. It reminds me of a tree – perhaps tree bark? What comes to mind when you look at that piece? Certainly it could be a conversation piece if placed on a wall in a room where people gather.

vantania.gif If you like wall art you really should visit the Wall Decor and Home Accents website and have a look at their selection. The metal wall art really is divine. I don’t think there’s a piece there that I don’t like.

I must be in a nature mood tonight as the second piece of metal wall art that I’ve added to this post is called Vantania and it’s most definitely tree like. It appears to be composed of panels, but I could be mistaken.

The online store also carries architectural pieces, wall clocks, wall mirrors, candle wall scones and wrought iron decor. Many of the pieces are on sale right now, so if you are interested in finding some pieces to brighten up a plain wall of your home take a look. If you buy now you’ll save some money! Oh and Christmas isn’t too far off, some of these items would make fantastic Christmas or even house warming gifts.

We’ll be having leftovers tonight

September 7, 2007 by Tricia

I can’t believe how many times I’ve eaten food from a restaurant in the last seven days! Five times! Five I say. That’s a lot.

Of course that’s unusual for us. The only reason we weren’t having home cooked meals over the last week was due to our family reunion. We kept meeting up in restaurants – what can I say!

Then last night, well … it was my birthday. I didn’t want to cook, and as I said in an earlier post my husband is NOT a cook. As much as I’m sure he would have loved to cook us a nice meal it wouldn’t have been a good one. So we ordered out.

A few months ago my husband discovered a very nice Italian restaurant in the area. I’m not really big on pasta dishes, but I must say the two times we’ve ordered meals from this restaurant I’ve been very happy with my meal. So – guess what I had for dinner last night? Yep, a very nice pasta dinner from our newly discovered restaurant. I had fusilli with Chicken. They include grilled peppers and eggplant in the pasta and it compliments it nicely. Chris had Fettuccine Alfredo, his favorite pasta dish. I swear he could eat that every day. We each ordered a slice of chocolate cake for desert, but we were too full and didn’t end up eating desert. We didn’t even touch the fantastic salad we’d ordered either.

In fact, we didn’t even finish our Pasta dishes. Are serving sizes getting even larger? I think every single restaurant meal I was served over the last week was far too large. I can’t eat a lot of food at one time because of my Crohn’s, but when Chris sets aside food for later or to take home in a doggy bag you know the serving was too large. Oh well, we’ll have some delicious leftovers for dinner tonight.

Have you found that most restaurant servings are far too big? Perhaps that’s how they justify the price they are charging?
