Our neighbor passed away

September 21, 2007 by Tricia

Yesterday evening our elderly neighbor, my stalker, sofie, came to our door. Well our window – remember she always knocks our windows for some reason. She gave us the sad news that our neighbor across the street, Jack, had died.

He too was elderly and had suffered from both depression and Parkinson’s disease and hadn’t been doing very well over the last two or three years.

About three weeks ago I saw an ambulance come to his house. It was early in the morning and the paramedics brought him out on an ambulance chair and transfered him onto a stretcher on the side walk. I was sad to see him going to the hospital, but I wasn’t overly concerned as he didn’t look too bad and was talking etc. He was also in and out of the hospital quite a bit so I never expected that that would be the last time I’d see him.

Chris went over to see his wife and give our condolences. We’d attend the funeral if there was going to be one, but she said that they were going to cremate him and then just have a very small service sometime next week.

So sad.

Spirulina sounds like a worthy nutritional supplement

September 21, 2007 by Tricia

As some of my regular readers know, I have Crohn’s disease.

This is a disease that affects the bowels. I won’t go into all the details, but lets just say that inflammation and scaring can develop as a result of the disease as well as many other symptoms. Needless to say this affects how a person with Crohn’s can digest their food. People with Crohn’s often have trouble eating certain types of foods and in some cases, usually during a flare up of the disease, the inability to eat or digest some foods can cause nutritional deficiencies.

As a result of this disease and all the trouble it gives me as far as getting proper nutrients into my system I’m always looking for supplements that might help my condition.

One dietary supplement that I’ve thought about trying is Spirulina. Spirulina is actually a microalgae and it contains a very high amount of protein as well as several important minerals such as calcium, iron and magnesium. If that weren’t enough it’s also full of vitamins.

Taking Spirulina regularly would probably be a good supplement for anyone to take, but certainly for someone like me who needs to boost the amount of nutrients they take in Spirulina seems like it would be a beneficial supplement to take regularly.

If you’re interested in learning more about this wonderful microalgae you should visit the Spirulina For Nutrition page. The page explains in detail exactly what Spirulina is, it’s history of use, how it can be used as a supplement for birds and fish, and it’s health benefits.

The health benefits page lists a number of research studies that have been done with Spriulina in recent years and their findings. Some studies have shown that it might be helpful with inflammatory conditions, diabetes, high cholesterol, and oral cancers, but it’s clear that more studies are warranted before scientists will fully back these results.

I think it’s worth trying. Spirulina can be purchased in capsule, tablet and even powdered form. I’ll probably try the capsules. If I do give it a try I’ll report back a month after starting the Spirulina supplements and let you know if I’ve had any improvements.

Survivor China

September 20, 2007 by Tricia

So it begins!

First- I’m really happy that there’s been some new shows on TV this week. There were a few great shows last year that my husband and I got addicted to and we’re both looking forward to seeing their premieres and watching them regularly again.

Ok Survivor … I guess I’m not as much of a fan as I used to be. This one didn’t do all that much for me. I’m pretty sure I’ll watch this seasons episodes if for nothing else than to see the beautiful landscape and wildlife of China.

Clothing … no bras? High heels? Fishnet stockings? What were these survivors thinking? Smart survivors wear a few layers of clothing on Day one just in case they can’t bring anything from their suitcases with them. In fact I think the last five or so episodes have all started out with the survivors only having the clothes they were wearing on day one.

So what do the Survivor China contestants do? They wear flimsy outfits and are upset when they are told that that’s all they can have to start out.

As my husband watched the first five or so minutes of Survivor he kept making remarks about how large some of the women’s breasts were. “Did you see the boobs on that one?” LOL Now, I’m sure he notices what other women look like, but he’s not normally that vocal about it so it was amusing.

I don’t know about you, but normally by the end of the first episode there’s at least one or two survivors that I like and that I hope do well. This time? I didn’t really get a feel for anyones’ personality so I don’t have any favorites yet.

Ok well … I do like the way James looks and how he wields an axe!

What did you think of the show?

Traveling in style

Wordless Wednesday

VW bike

I’ve always loved old mini VW vans, but I’ve never seen one this small!

I wonder what this biker keeps in his tiny VW? Great for storage or even a pet but certainly not a person. Ok, well I suppose an infant or child could ride in the VW sidecar too.

Have you ever seen motor bikes done up in funny ways like this?

Shopping for the holidays? Here’s a way to save money

September 19, 2007 by Tricia

The holidays will be upon us soon and I’m sure that many of you have already started shopping. I’m definitely not one of those people who are ready for the holidays three months in advance, but I know some of you might be finished shopping already.

If you are beginning to shop for the holidays you might want to visit webbyplanet.com. It’s an e-commerce search site where you can find great deals, discounts, coupons and free shipping at over 5000 retail and online stores.

When you visit Webbyplanet.com you can browse through the shopping categories or do a search for the product for which you are hoping to find a deal or coupon. Once you find the store or product you were looking for you can browse through the listings to find coupons that you can print and use for in store purchases, or you can find coupon codes to use while online.

Each listing links to the store the coupon or deal is related to and that makes it easy to take advantage of the bargain you found and shop for it right away.

Looking through the site I found quite a few deals and coupons. Many of the listings were for $10 to $20 off an item or service, and other listings gave discounts in percentages of 15% to 35% and higher. All of the listings are in chronological order which means the ones at the top are the newest listings.

Visit WebbyPlanet today and start saving money at online stores like Eddie Bauer, Buy.com, Overstock.com, Sephora and more!
