Remembering our trip to Vegas

December 14, 2007 by Tricia

Ever since Chris and I came back from Vegas in November we pay special attention to TV shows that show the Vegas strip. You know show’s like CSI, movies and anything else that’s set in Vegas.

We always try to see if we can see any of the Vegas hotels that are near the one we stayed in or the specific hotel that we stayed in, the Imperial Palace.

We really didn’t see all that much of the strip while we were there. Only about three blocks of it at the most. Pretty much all the restaurants or bars that we met other bloggers in were fairly close to our hotel so we didn’t have to go far.

We did take the monorail a few times, but only back and forth to the convention center for the blogging conventions that we were attending.

I think the next time we go to Vegas we’d better make more of an effort to see the whole strip at the very least!

For those of you who’ve gone to Vegas did you see the whole strip or were you like us and only saw a small part of it?

Man that guy can talk!

December 13, 2007 by Tricia

The other night Chris was on the phone for well over an hour. No it wasn’t one phone call, I think it was about three phone conversations. Our phone just kept ringing all night.

He talks so loud when he’s on the phone it’s hard to concentrate on anything and forget watching TV … unless you turn it up quite loud you can’t hear it as he talks louder to compensate. Sometimes I wonder if he’s got a hearing problem.

Before we had a DLP TV we used to have a Sony Trinitron and when Chris would get on the phone and start talking loud while I was trying to watch a tv program (remember this was long before we had a PVR that would let us pause or record a show) I’d sometimes just switch the TV to the captioning service and read the close captions if the station or channel provide them for that program. At least I could still follow the program!

Do any of you have that problem? Someone at home that talks so loud you can barely do anything in the same room if they are on the phone or talking to someone in person?

Great Zoo Sign

December 10, 2007 by Tricia

I love this sign. I think the Toronto Metropolitan Zoo has a similar sign or two in front of some of their animal displays too.

I don’t think I’ve heard any dumb people versus the animals at the Zoo stories lately, but there are always some people that try to do things at the zoo like attempting to climb over fences in order to get into the bear display or something just as silly.

Vacationing with a puppy?

December 10, 2007 by Tricia

Now that we have a dog, well a puppy, our vacations might be a bit limited for a while. At least until we have Midnight trained. I mean, if we got someone to look after her while we went away for a week or two I’d want her to be house trained and hopefully a little calmer than she is right now.

BTW she’s still sick but I think she’s getting better. She’s on antibiotics for the runs that she’s been having just in case it’s a bacterial infection. The vet is running a culture and sensitivity test on her stool to determine just what might be making her so sick. She does have roundworm and that’s being treated too. I’ve been giving her water with gatorade mixed in, and her food is a little of her dried food mixed with rice and chicken broth. I’m trying my best to help her retain fluids so she’ll stay hydrated. Things are a little better than they were Friday and Saturday. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she’ll be back to normal soon.

Anyway, once she’s over her illness and house trained I don’t see any reason why Chris and I couldn’t take a road trip with her. Maybe stay in pet friendly hotels or motels? Actually there’s
Pigeon Forge cabin rentals in TN, and they have some very nice pet friendly cabins that might be nice to stay in. I think we’ll have to make sure her chewing obsession has calmed down a bit before we can take her to such a nice place though.

Any other travel ideas for people with young dogs that must travel with them?

Dial up users need to check out Wildblue Satellite Internet service

December 8, 2007 by Tricia

I know that a few of my regular readers are still using dial up service to connect to the internet. Most of the people that I know that are still using dial up modems are in rural areas where they cannot access DSL or cable internet service providers.

I feel sorry for them.

I remember those days when dial up was the only way to connect to the internet. When a 54 baud modem was considered fast! Of course those were the days when a 256 or 386 PC computer was also considered fast and they still had floppy disks that you had to use to run big software applications like Wordperfect.

OMG I’m aging myself here I think!

Well I’m very happy to let everyone know, especially those of you who are still using dial up, that Satellite Internet is finally here!

Mybluedish.com is making their satellite internet service, Wildblue, available to those of you who live in the continental United States. If you have a clear view of the southern sky you’ll be able to receive the service.

Wildblue is faster than other Satellite Internet service providers with download speeds of up to 1.5 mb which of course is 30 times faster than dial up! Isn’t that amazing? Are you dial up users getting excited yet?

Just like DSL and Cable internet the service is always on so you’ll be able to turn on your computer and be on the internet right away. The Satellite modem plugs into a wall outlet (just like my cable modem does). All you need to do after that is plug your computer into the Ethernet port that’s located on the back of the Satellite modem. Simple. Easy. Anyone can do this.

More good news. Wildblue is the least expensive Satellite Internet service in the USA. Prices start at $49.95 per month which is comparable to what I pay for my cable service here in Canada.

You’ll need to be able install a very small satellite dish to your home to use this service. The dish is small, apparently more like a small satellite TV dish rather than one of those huge dishes that you still sometimes see on peoples homes or office buildings.

Dial up users – Don’t you hate waiting for slow downloads? Does it sometimes take several minutes for a website to load? Wouldn’t it be nice to almost instantly load websites and receive downloads from now on? You’d also be able to watch video’s without any lag or delay.

If this sounds like a service you could use go check out the Wildblue Satellite Internet service at Mybluedish.com.
