All I want for Christmas Contest

December 3, 2007 by Tricia

Overstock.com launched a huge promotion today. It’s the All I want for Christmas Giveaway. If you’re a resident of the continental United States you can enter to win.

The promotional period for this contest is from December 3rd until December 7th and you can enter once each day. So enter now. Enter daily!

So what can you win? Well, when you fill out the contest entry form you’ll be asked to pick an item from Overstock.com that is priced at $1000 or less. If you are the Grand Prize winner you’ll receive the item that you picked out.

When you enter the contest you’ll get an invitation link that will enable you to invite up to five friends.

One cool thing about this contest is that Overstock.com will also be giving out daily prizes. If you are chosen as a daily prize winner both you and one of the friends that you invited to join the contest will be awarded a one thousand dollar Overstock.com gift card to be used towards the purchase of each of your selected items or any other item at Overstock. You need to send out those five invites in order to qualify for the daily prize draw.

At the end of the contest one grand prize will be awarded. The Grand prize is one $5000 Overstock gift card. This fantastic gift card can be used for the purchase of all five of the contestants selected items or any other items of their choosing at Overstock.

I’m from Canada so I can’t enter the contest.

I really wish I could enter as I’d probably pick one of the LCD or Plasma television sets as my desired prize. I know we’ll want a TV for the basement when we get around to renovating the basement so it’d be great to win one!

Perhaps I’d also pick out some things for our new dog. Puppy has already cost us a lot of money what with the training crate, accessories and all the toys we’ve purchased in the last week. I’m sure we’ll need more stuff for her as she gets older and bigger.

As for the five people I’d invite if I could enter this fantastic contest? Hmmm that’s a tough one. I’d definitely invite my sister. I’d probably also invite my husbands younger sister. My niece just bought a new home last year and she’s expecting a baby in February so I think she could use some items for her home or for the baby their expecting so I’d invite her as well. Then to finish off my invites I’d probably invite two good friends of mine – Connie and Colleen – who I work with at the hospital.

Who are you going to invite when you enter the All I want for Christmas Giveaway?

A bright little rose

I love this little rose plant. It’s called Morden Sunrise and it produces the most lovely multicolored roses.

Morden Sunrise is a fairly compact rose plant. Mine has never reached more than 2 to 2.5 feet tall, yet it produces a number of bright blooms regularly throughout the growing season. It’s also a hardy rose so those in cool climates would do well with this rose.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

What to get a 10 year old for Christmas?

December 2, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve been trying to think of what to get my youngest niece for Christmas. She’s almost 10 years old and she’s a real girly girl.

It can sometimes be hard to buy gifts for kids when you don’t have any of your own. There are so many trendy items that are hot one month and dead the next. It’s hard to keep up.

I’m pretty sure that she’d love it if I could get her High School Musical tickets. It looks like the Ice Tour is here in Toronto all through the week of Christmas. Surprisingly they even have a show on Christmas day!

Do you think that that’s something a 10 year old girl would really like to get for Christmas? Any other ideas?

Annual Celosia in the garden

This weeks theme is RED

I love growing these annual celosia flowers in my garden each year. They’re short plants, maybe 5 to 6 inches in height, but with their vibrant colors they pack a punch in the garden.

Now that we have a dog that will be sharing our garden with us we’ll have to remove a few of our plants that are known to be extremely toxic. I have no idea if celosia is toxic or not. I guess that will be another one I’ll have to look up.

What a clean house we have!

November 30, 2007 by Tricia

Well I think I can say that our house is a lot cleaner these days than it usually is!

Last week when we’d decided that we were going to get a puppy we got busy cleaning up the house in anticipation. I knew the pup would probably be into everything so it gave me a good excuse to pick up a few things that had been lying around and the whole house looks tidier as a result.

You might remember that I’ve said several times that our house has very few closets and the ones we have are pretty small. There is no closet on the main floor at all! We used to keep at least one pair of shoes each on the mat at the front door. Now our shoes are kept outside in the front porch! Talk about getting cold feet before going outside!

In the first few days that the pup was here she made quite a few messes on the floor. Remember she was sick and had loose stool and diarrhea. It wasn’t her fault but we had to clean the floor a number of times. I think I mopped the floor at least 5 times on Monday alone! She’s doing better now about accidents – she’ll go on her puppy training pads or outside for the most part now, although she’s still have the occasional accident in other areas of the house.

Of course she’s still finding things to get into and as she finds things we’ve tried to find a new place to put these items. Like I said we only have a couple very small closets – so we don’t really have any space to put the items we have to move so many of these things are ending up in the basement. Our basement is already cluttered though as it was already a big storage area.

I think I’m going to have to look into getting some shelves or some type of storage system to put on the main floor for the things that we use occasionally and don’t want to store in the basement or hide away in an already stuffed closet.
