The Hungry kitty

January 31, 2007 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

image

How the heck did you get in there?

Looks like kitty wanted a snack. I wonder if that meat is a kielbasa sausage? If so, that cats got good taste since that’s usually great tasting. Mmmm.

I wonder how the cat got in there without knocking anything else over.

Can you imagine if your cat jumped in the fridge like that and you didn’t realize it? I don’t open my fridge that much during the day – a bit more in the evening as I go back and forth to get some water or another type of drink, so in my house there’s a good chance that the cat would be in the fridge for a while before I found it.

Waiting for summer

I’d rather remember the beauty of these “The Fairy” roses right now:

Instead of looking outside and watching the snow fall!

January Snowstorm Toronto

It’s been snowing here since Friday, and while I’m kind of glad that it is snowing and covering my plants – which protects them a little bit from the harsh cold, I’d much rather that it was spring or even summer right now.

Just look at those pretty roses! I can’t wait until spring when all my plants start to poke their heads up out of the earth or begin to grow new stems and leaves. It always seems like such a miracle after the cold of winter.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

The Cloud Gate

This weeks theme is Silver

You want silver? I’ll give you silver! This is the Cloud Gate sculpture in downtown Chicago. I was there in August and was just amazed by the beauty of this huge silver “Bean” as Chicagoans call it.

DSC00810

Here’s a closer view – see how everyone is just amazed as they stand and look at it?

DSC00781

You could easily spend hours there looking at it from all angles and seeing what you could see reflected in it’s shiny dome. You could also walk below it where the sculpture becomes concave. The reflections when you are underneath it are like looking in one of those crazy funhouse mirrors.

If you ever visit Chicago I recommend that you go to see this sculpture. You’ll love it.

The facts, just the facts

January 25, 2007 by Tricia

Daisy from the BlueApron tagged me! This time the meme that I’ve been tagged with is “6 Random Facts” and I have to write out 6 random facts about myself.

I’m pretty sure that I’ve done this meme a few times now, but I’ll play along. I’ll get you Daisy!

1. Well, if you read my Thursday Thirteen this week you’ll discover that I’m probably one of the only people you kinda, sorta know who happens to have had a camera pill floating around in their insides.

2. Being female you’d think that there’d be a number of distinctly female things that I would enjoy, like perhaps, shopping? Nope! I hate shopping. I only get really lucky and find things that are absolutely perfect about two or three times a year when I’m shopping. the rest of the time I’m sadly disappointed. Of course on those rare days when I’m having luck shopping I turn into the ultimate female shopper, so watch out!

3. Here’s another thing that many females are known for – talking on the phone. Well I can’t stand it. I just want to know the facts, where to meet, how you are doing, feeling, how your family is and that’s about it. I’d rather talk in person than on the phone. I just spent two hours today talking on the phone. That’s my quota for the month. Honest! My normally non-talkative brother had me on the phone for about 30 minutes today talking about his upcoming trip to India (lucky guy!), and my sister took up the other hour and half. I think part of the reason I dislike talking on the phone so much is because my ear starts to hurt where the receiver is pressing against it. I end up with red ears for about an hour after a long telephone call.

4. Oh and I don’t like watching Soap Operas! I know, I’m breaking all the female rules but I don’t care for soap operas or talk shows at all.

5. Gossip is another pet peeve. I really get turned off when people talk about others behind their back. Especially if there isn’t a good reason for it. I appreciate honesty and truth more than anything.

6. My favorite car, that I’ll probably never own, is a Porsche 911 Carera. I like the older, 80’s style best. I really don’t know much about cars and models but that one is burnt into my brain. I can pick it out from just a shadowy view.

Who should I tag? Daisy called her tagging revenge but I never did anything to her! LOL I will however seek revenge on her someday when I have meme to pass on. Just you wait Daisy, I’m going to make sure it’s a good one! I think I’ll tag Kyle because he hasn’t done many memes and he tagged me with the last one that I did.

I’ve got a camera in my tummy and I don’t know what to do with it

January 25, 2007 by Tricia

Thirteen Things about the camera in my tummy

This is Thursday Thirteen #32

1…. Early yesterday morning I swallowed a camera

2…. It’s true. I went to the hospital to do it.

3…. The medical test that I’m currently undergoing is called a Camera Endoscopy.

4…. The Camera takes 5 or 6 photos of my intestinal tract every second as it travels through my system.

5…. I’m doing this test so that the doctors can have a good look at my Crohn’s disease since they can’t see it at all when they do a normal gastroscopy or colonoscopy. It’s always been assumed that it’s deep in my small bowel. This is the only way to see the inside of the small bowel without having extensive surgery.

6…. So, yesterday morning I went to the hospital and got fitted with a halter that would hold the machine that would record what the camera was seeing (a hard drive?), and the very heavy battery pack. it felt like what I think a parachute halter would feel like.

7…. Then the really nice nurses in the endoscopy department started putting all the electrodes on my chest and abdomen in order to record exactly where the pill was in my body as it took the photos being stored on the hard drive.

8…. I had been told that the clinic did camera pill tests every Wednesday. It sounded like they did them every Wednesday, but considering that it took three nurses to figure out exactly where to place the electrodes and to fit me with the halter I don’t think they do the camera pill test all that often at all.

9…. Once I had the electrodes and the halter on they pulled out the pill that I had to swallow. It was / is about the size of a very large calcium pill (bigger). Look at your baby finger – ok the size of the pill is from the tip of your baby finger to the first knuckle, and the width is about the width of your ring finger. In other words it’s not a small pill.

10….The camera, before I swallowed it, flashed with a bright light several times each second. I joked with the nurses by asking them if I’d be able to stand in the dark and see it flashing inside me as it moved through my system? I did actually test my theory but I’m sorry to report that I didn’t have a funny abdominal light show going on, on the outside, but I know there’s still one going on, on the inside.

11…. I was home again by 8 am, but since I didn’t sleep well last night I fell asleep on the couch from 10 am until 1:30 pm Starving the whole time because I wasn’t allowed to eat until 11:30 am but of course I slept though that time. Before I fell asleep I had fantasies about eating, I was so hungry!

12…. I had to go back to the hospital for 3 pm to give them back the halter and pay for the test. $1100 for this little experiment folks and it’s not covered by our Ontario Health plan or by our Insurance company. We put it on Visa, and I have no idea how we’ll pay it off. I just hope that the pill reached the end of my small bowel before the data collection stopped, or else they might not have gotten as much info as they need to really help me.

13…. The test is so expensive because the pill is only used once. If you read one of my posts from yesterday I was worried that I might be swallowing a pill that someone else had pooped out the week before, but that’s not the case. Relief! Now I just have to wait for this darn thing to pass out of my body.

I didn’t feel well all day. I don’t think it’s because of the pill but I had major fevers all day and still have a fever as I write this. I also haven’t gone to the washroom since before I took the pill so I’m hoping that it didn’t get stuck anywhere. The camera pill is the exact same diameter as the small bowel and if I have narrowing it’s possible that it could get stuck. Let’s hope it didn’t.
