We’ll wait no longer!

September 12, 2007 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

No service!

There’s been a few times I’ve felt like doing this in a restaurant. Sometimes even other places of business too … Nothing like sitting there watching everyone else eat when you’re hungry and the waiter or waitresses are rushing by, but somehow continue to ignoring you.

Small Fuschia flowers

I really enjoy having some potted fuchsia around in the summer. I usually have one or two in hanging baskets on the front porch and at least one in the garden on the patio.

I think these Fuchsia might be a slightly different variety than I normally get. The flowers are not quite as big as I’ve had on other plants in other years. I guess they are about an inch long, but I think my past Fuchsias were at least a half inch bigger. These smaller ones are kind of cute though.

Do you like Fuchsia plants? What other tropicals do you like growing in the summer?

Dancing racing … peppers?

This weeks theme is Music

Usually it’s hot peppers making people dance, or well maybe dash off to the washroom, but in this case it was the peppers that we dashing, dancing and racing!

I think it was the 7th inning of the baseball game when, during a short break, three Ranchero peppers came out to entertain the crowd. I’ve seen them do this before so this must be a regular feature for “Ranchero dip” .

The music that was played during the “big race” was la Cucoracha (I think). It was amusing to say the least. There were three peppers racing in all, but the yellow pepper got tripped early in the race. As you can see in this blurry photo the green pepper was in the lead and he? won the race.

The Sun Sets over Toronto

Is that not a postcard worthy photo? I took that picture while on the boat cruise on Saturday night. The evening was lovely and the sun setting over Toronto was absolutely gorgeous.

I think next to my love of gardening and roses, gazing at beautiful sunsets is one of my most favorite things.

It was kind of like Deja Vu when I was on the boats deck.

I’d been inside the boat in the dinning room and I noticed that the sun was going to set soon so Chris and I went up on the deck to take some photos and just look at the scenery.

I suddenly realized while on the boat that all the beautiful postcard photos of our cityscape must have been taken while on a boat on the lake. It makes sense of course, but I’d never thought of it before. It was so beautiful.

Beautiful Hibiscus

I just love hibiscus flowers. They are so large and colorful. I love the vibrant peachy orange of this one.

For years we grew a tall hibiscus tree indoors in our apartment, but when we moved to the house it died on us. Since then I think I’ve only managed to keep smaller tropical hibiscus plants alive for about two years at the most. Naturally I keep the hibiscus outdoors in the summer and then bring it in towards the end of September when it begins to get cooler during the day and night.

I think this year I’m going to get another humidifier for our house, but the new humidifier will just be in our spare bedroom where we keep our tropical plants during the winter months. The extra moisture in the air should help. I hope!

If you have success keeping hibiscus and other tropical indoor during the cold winter months I’d love to hear how you do it. Maybe one of your tips will work for me.

BTW sorry that my Green Thumb Sunday post is so late. I’ve had a whirlwind of a weekend. See the next post!
