Trying to win those concert tickets for Chris

May 22, 2007 by Tricia

Chris’ concert ticket quest continues!

Chris had to work today. His work schedule said he had to go in for 10 a.m. but he was talking to a guy from work yesterday who reminded him that another one of the guys, one with major seniority, always works at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, so he called in and found out he should come in for noon.

Ok that’s fine. He got up this morning and spent time on the radio stations website, filling in quiz’s and things to earn points. Apparently if you have a lot of points at the Q107 website they might just give you tickets for the Thursday evening concert.

Then he got a call from work telling him that someone was sick, and would he come in and work from 3:30 to 11:30 p.m. That’s the first evening shift he’ll have done for his new job in the OR recovery room. Fine … he went back to working on getting points to win tickets.

In the meantime we had the radio on because the only way to get tickets for the concert is to win them. So we were waiting for any “we’ll take the 7th caller to win tickets!” announcements. Before Chris went to work we’d both tried calling in to the station twice on the phone and cell phone but all we got was busy signals.

Since Chris really really wants to go to this concert I’ve had the radio on since he left and I’ve been trying to win tickets every time they say we can try calling in.

I don’t play the radio very often when I’m sitting here by myself working on the computer. I should. I’m enjoying the music. I’m even singing along! It’s fun.

If everything goes well, Chris plans to go back to the radio station tomorrow after work to try to get tickets directly from Kim Mitchell himself. Kim told him that he might have to play his guitar on the air to get the tickets so this might be interesting.

Oh a few of you sounded like you have no idea who Kim Mitchell and or who the band Max Webster is … uhm you must have heard that song “Patio lanterns” before? “Go For a Soda”? “Rock n’ Roll Duty”? How about “High Class in Borrowed Shoes”? A Million Vacations? BattleScar? Blue River Liquor Shine? Chalkers? Check? Diamonds Diamonds? Gravity? Let go the Line? Oh come on! This is classic rock n’ roll!

Some lyrics …

A Million Vacations –

Friday Friday is a good time to shine / night sea journeys journeys to unwind
losing all survival signs / rerun movies taking all your time

or

Let go the line –

i see you there in your satin shirt / unfocused eyes on the ceiling
fluorescent lips on a painted face / i think i know what you’re feeling
this tightrope just begins to feel like home
when the wind comes rising from a desert storm
and all i know is that tonight i might / let go the line, let go the line

anyone?

He really wants to win those Max Webster Tickets

May 21, 2007 by Tricia

He’s a freak, it’s true! Mon mari est un fou! Chris has lost it.

Chris really really really wants to go to a Kim Mitchell and friends plus the 30 year Max Webster reunion concert being held this Thursday evening at the Docks nightclub here in Toronto.

Unfortunately it seems that the only way to get tickets is to win them!

Please tell me you know who Kim Mitchell is? Remember the band Max Webster? Ok well if that’s not familiar to you, then how about David Wilcox, Alannah Myles, Honeymoon Suite, Sass Jordan, and Goddo?

Well, for some reason Kim Mitchell became a DJ at one of our local Toronto rock stations Q107. He’s DJ’ing right now. So Chris decided to make a last ditch attempt at winning tickets by going down there with his guitar to play for the man.

So if you were in downtown Toronto this evening and saw this guy in front of the Hard Rock cafe playing guitar for Kim Mitchell … well that’s Chris.

Chris is an extremely talented musician himself. If anyone could win tickets by playing for Kim Mitchell it would be Chris.

So Chris took off a few minutes ago. I’m listening to the radio station just in case Kim mentions the freak outside with a big sign and a nice guitar.

Funny thing is, Kim was just mentioning on the radio that for some reason he’s always wanted to learn how to do the Robot. Now that’s something I can do! LOL Yeah … one of my many hidden talents since I was a little kid. So I called Chris on the cell phone – that he doesn’t have turned on – and left him a message telling him to tell Kim that I’ll teach him how to do the robot if he’ll give us tickets to the concert. Ok so that’s my freaky effort.

Update:

He went there and they started howling with laughter. It sounds like they would have given him tickets if they had any at the station. Kim told him to come back tomorrow or Wednesday but that he’d probably have to play live on the air to get the tickets. LOL So it might work after all!

Here’s the sad face he was practicing:

Pathetic isn’t he!

BTW my venetian plaster walls aren’t that dark! It’s just how they came out in the photo with the poor lighting in the room when I took the picture.

Chris was noticed by hospital bigwigs

May 17, 2007 by Tricia

Chris had a long long day at work yesterday. He didn’t sleep well that night, and then he got up early for his 7:30 a.m. shift at the hospital. He was only supposed to work until 3:30 p.m., but one of the guys that he works with put his back out early in the morning and Chris ended up working twice as hard through the day, and worked until 7:30 p.m. to cover part of the other guys shift as well.

Needless to say he was pretty tired when he got home last night. He’d been supposed to work another 7:30 a.m. shift this morning, but since he’d put in such long hours yesterday he was told that he could come in sometime around 9 a.m. instead. He works in the OR recovery room and I guess they didn’t expect their first patient to arrive until about 8:30 a.m. so that worked out great for Chris. Of course, since he was so tired from his almost sleepless night the night before and his long work hours he slept very well last night. Hopefully he doesn’t have to work overtime today too.

The only problem was that he thought it was Friday when he got up this morning. Don’t you just hate that when you get confused about what day it is?

As Chris was leaving for work this morning he told me that he was the topic of discussion at a big hospital meeting earlier in the week. Apparently many of the doctors – heads of departments, as well as Nursing department heads and other people high in management had a meeting. I don’t know what the meeting was about, but Chris was told by his manager and some other nurses that had attended the meeting that he was discussed for about 20 minutes!

Apparently they were discussing how good he is with patients and how he can easily build a rapport with patients and their friends and relatives, setting them at ease easily. Maybe they are going to use the “Chris Model” to inspire other hospital employees to be more compassionate towards patients and visitors?

I’m so proud of him! His kind nature has always stood out to people, but now it seems that he might be getting some official recognition for it.

Chris and I are a lot alike in that we are both really nice people. Yeah, I know you’ll just have to take my word for it that I am a kind person. LOL I haven’t been able to work in the ER for close to a year and a half due to my illness, but I too always stood out and got some recognition for my kindness to patients, families and co-workers too.

We’re hoping to attend the Blog World Expo, and P0stieCon convention in Las Vegas in November. If any of you are attending, or live in the Las Vegas area maybe we’ll get to meet you. If we do meet you’ll be able to judge for yourselves if Chris and I really are as nice as I say we are. LOL

Underwear from Down Under

May 16, 2007 by Tricia

Yesterday Chris and I went on a big shopping spree, but perhaps we didn’t need to buy as much as we did in a department store. I was just looking at a site called DUGG – which is short for Down Under Guys Gear – and they sell all kinds of mens underwear, accessories and clothing.

I probably shouldn’t be saying this online, but that’s one thing we didn’t buy yesterday that we probably should have. I’m pretty sure that Chris could use some new underwear.

He hasn’t purchased underwear in years! By that I do not mean that he’s been wearing the same old briefs over and over again for years. No, I mean his mommy still gives him underwear as a gift. It’s one thing we can always count on – He gets underwear at Christmas and birthdays and sometimes just for the heck of it. Me – I always seem to get scented candles – go figure.

Visit the site to see all the different styles of underwear that you can buy. You can find everything from Briefs, trunks, hipsters, g-strings, jockstraps, tops and singlets, swimwear, sleepwear, socks and boxers. There are several well known name brands to choose from too – so if you have a favorite brand you’ll probably find it there.

The company is based in Australia, but you can tell immediately that they sell world wide. How do I know that? Well I’m in Canada and the site automatically knew where I was located so it showed me the prices in Canadian dollars. That’s a cool site feature. I also knew that they shipped worldwide because it actually says that at the bottom of every page I visited. DUGG offers free shipping on domestic orders over $50, and international orders over $80. If you become a member of the site and contact them before you make your second purchase you’ll get an ongoing 5% discount as well.

If you know a guy who needs some nice new underwear go and visit DUGG.

Our home reno project du jour

May 16, 2007 by Tricia

I’m starting to get into that renovation mode again. Chris and I have been working on our house since the very first day that we got it. On the second day in our home we were taking out all of the wall to wall carpeting and knocking down three of the walls that sectioned off the living room dining room. We mean business when we get busy renovating!

A few weeks ago I bought a new domain that I might move my gardening blog over to at some point. Whether I do or don’t it’s going to be a Home and Garden blog and I’ll be talking about decor, interior design, home renovation as well as my love of gardening on that site. I haven’t done a thing with it but it will be located at homeandgardendiva.com.

We’ve taken photos of our projects as we’ve been doing them – again from day one. So I’m sure I’ll have lots of photos of our work on the new site. You’ve got to see our living room and dining room walls! I did them myself in Venetian plaster. I worked 18 hours a day for three weeks straight to finish 600 square feet of wall in a tri color venetian plaster of my own mix.

The walls are a lovely shade of yellow with light yellow and off white mixed in. Venetian plaster looks quite a bit like marble and it’s got a sheen to it from all the hand polishing I did when I did the job. I don’t have any photos on this computer or in my flickr account that do it justice right now. I’ll have to take some tomorrow and possibly add them to this post. However, it has a real Mediterranean or European feel to it like that of the Tuscany Villas. It’s beautiful.

The furniture in our Dining room is all antique, and our living room has a much more modern tech feel with our HDTV and leather couches and recliner. The walls pull it all together and make it look amazing. All we have to do in the room now is get the molding and our beautiful tin ceiling up!

Honest, I think that when I do eventually show you guys photos of our living room / dining room you’ll love it. The styles that I’ve put together are all different and I’m sure that it might not sound like it goes together as well as I’m telling you that it does, but just you wait. I’ll show you photos one day and you’ll see what I mean.

All we have to do is finish this job! I’m glad I’m starting to get into the mood to do it again. Oh and I’ve come up with a bribe for Chris too. He really wants to get a very expensive piece of equipment for his guitar. It’s about $500 but it has to be install into his guitar. It’s a special pick up if you want to know. His acoustic guitar does have a nice pick up but he wants to replace it with this deluxe one and put the old pick up in another guitar – another installation charge! I figure it will cost about $700 bucks to get this all done. My deal with him is that if he does go ahead and get this for his guitar we have to get started on our living room dining room project again – and get it done by sometime this summer. I think it’ll work.
