I hate peanut butter!

May 29, 2007 by Tricia

Ew!

The other day when we went grocery shopping we purchased a jumbo package of Nature Valley sweet and salty chewy nutbars. There’s two flavors – almond that has an almond butter coating on the bottom, and peanut that has a peanut butter coating on the bottom.

I hate peanuts! I hate peanut butter! I just accidentally selected the peanut one, and not having had it before I opened it up and discovered the peanut butter coating on the bottom. Yuck, ew, bleah!

It was Chris’ idea to buy these things. I think he thought he was getting a healthy snack but as far as I’m concerned they’re too sweet. Also, when I read the nutritional info at the bottom of the bar the amounts of sugar, salt and fat are quite high.

The Sweet and Salty chewy bars sound healthy but I’m not all that convinced that they are. We had something else kicking around the house the week before, I think it was made by the same company and those bars were much better.

I think I’ll find another type of healthy snack and let Chris have these.

Yuck … Peanut butter. Must brush my teeth now …

Just had to throw out most of the food in the freezer

May 28, 2007 by Tricia

Ok, now my husband’s watching Hockey.

He’s very thankful that we have a DVR and that he could put the game on pause while we fixed a big problem!

A week or so ago my husband went out and did the grocery shopping for us. He even put everything away in the fridge, freezer and cupboards when he returned from the store. Good guy, eh?

Unfortunately, we think he overstuffed the freezer and the door didn’t quite shut when he’d finished putting the items inside, and in the freezer door. If you haven’t figured it out yet we have a standing freezer that’s a bit smaller than a regular fridge.

I think that happened on a Sunday, but we didn’t discover that things were thawing out in the freezer until Tuesday. If we’d discovered it on Monday perhaps it wouldn’t have been so bad, but by Tuesday everything at the front of the freezer was pretty much thawed out.

We had a lot of meat in the freezer. Well, to tell the truth we had a lot of everything in there. It was much too full to begin with and probably wasn’t working all that efficiently because it was so full.

I think it was about 11pm on the Tuesday when we discovered that things were thawing. You really shouldn’t refreeze items once they’ve already been frozen once, and some things had been in the freezer for a long time. We decided to throw out most of it, but our garbage is only picked up every two weeks. So we closed up the freezer and let it freeze again.

This evening we remembered that it’s garbage day tomorrow and we pretty much had to clear out the freezer.

We literally had to get a chisel out to chip ice off many of the items in the freezer. You see when it defrosted, because the door wasn’t quite closed, a lot of frost built up in the freezer. I think doing the whole job properly and defrosting the freezer as well would have taken a whole day. We managed to chip out a lot of the frost and pretty much empty the freezer in a little over an hour!

We kept a few things because they were way at the back of the freezer and coated in frost so we didn’t think they ever thawed out. Hopefully we didn’t make a big mistake keeping those items.

Perhaps on the weekend we’ll take the few freezer items over to our neighbors, put them in her freezer, and defrost our own freezer properly.

Hockey Night in Canada

May 28, 2007 by Tricia

Well it’s the first night of the Stanley cup finals! Go Ottawa Senators!!!!

I like hockey, especially if it’s my hometown team that wins, but I’m not all that into watching it.

I’ve had a lot of work to finish up in the last 24 hours and I’m getting close to having it all done so I was looking forward to just relaxing for the rest of the evening. Unfortunately, since I’m not all that into watching hockey on TV I think I’m going to end up working on my sites for a while.

My husband on the other hand managed to put two window air-conditioners in and he’s now glued to the tv set. Sigh ….

If I want to relax I’m going to have to watch hockey ….

This is almost how I react when Chris steals my pen

May 23, 2007 by Tricia

Ok I just wrote a post about Chris being the biggest pen thief in the world. Is it no wonder, is it, that I get kind of paranoid about my own pens?

Just like this Kids in the Hall video, I will not accept a pen from him that isn’t mine or the one that I specifically want to use. Part of that comes from having my favorite pens stolen by him, and the other part is that I’m a lefty and only certain pens are comfortable for me to use for writing.

I’m not quite as bad as the guy in this video, but to Chris – who immediately went and found this video when I had him read the post I just wrote about him, I must seem this way at times:

My Pennnnnnn!!!!! You’ve got my Pen!!! At least we can laugh at each other.

BTW have you noticed that I’ve really upped the Canadian related content this week? It’s purely by accident. Kids in the Hall is of course an old Canadian program produced by Loren Michaels, a Canadian, the producer of Saturday Night Live.

Chris is a pen-kleptomaniac

May 23, 2007 by Tricia

Well, Chris got off work early today so that he could go to the Q107 radio station again today to talk with Kim Mitchell and hopefully get tickets to the 30 year reunion concert for Max Webster tomorrow night at the docks.

Before he left we had a mad hunt for a pen of all things.

Have I ever told you that as far as pens go, Chris is a kleptomaniac? If I put a pen out he steals it. It’s not like I can ever find where he’s put these lost pens either because he takes them out of the house, perhaps to work, and promptly loses them! It’s worse than the constant lose of socks in the dryer phenomena that I know many of you are familiar with.

After we found a pen, that I know I’ll never see again, I went searching for a place where I could purchase discount pens. I’m totally buying a carton of pens from this place. By carton I mean crate, like 1000 or more pens. I think if I do that we might actually have some pens to write with for a couple of months before they all magically disappear again.

I do keep a pen on my desk. Chris knows that if he uses it he must put it right back or he’ll suffer. All other pens are free game though it seems!

Now, consider yourself warned.

If you ever get a chance to meet Chris and I, HIDE YOUR PENS! Oh and if you use a lighter for any reason keep it in your pocket because the same thing happens with lighters too.
