Sofie and the tale of her clocks

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

Our elderly neighbor is becoming a little troublesome. You know she’s the one I call my stalker right? ’cause she watches everything I do – even peeking at me through the window when I’m sitting in the dining room on the computer. Uh huh.

Well, I guess with this heat wave it’s been hard on the cities electricity supply. So almost every day over this past week the power goes out for a minute or two once or twice a day. It’s a pain in the butt, especially if you have to reset any clocks.

We’ve been asking Sofie’s family to get her new clocks with batteries in them so that when the power goes out it doesn’t disturb the clock. Finally after two months of requesting this they fixed one clock. The oldest clock who’s minute button doesn’t even work half the time wasn’t replaced or fixed though.

Now the whole problem with this is that whenever the power goes out Sofie comes and bangs on our windows – not our doors, our windows usually scaring me half to death, and asks us to fix her “watch”. uh huh – you mean your clock. You should know that word by now Sofie.

The only thing is – she doesn’t ask us to fix the clock when the power goes out at nine in the morning. She waits until it’s 10 at night before she wanders over to our house in the dark! Grrrr. I wish her family would just listen to us and fix this for us and her.

On our last trip to her house we noticed that one of her light fixtures is starting to come out of the ceiling. So now she need to replace a light fixture. We are not doing that! Her family is going to finally have to do something for her.

Sofie almost might as well live with us since she’s here so often. Her family says they’ve offered to have her live with them, but she refuses. Maybe she knows she’ll be just as neglected in their home as she is by them in her own home.

Do you have a neighbor that frustrates you to no end?

Will they be successful in September?

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

I was just thinking about how our neighbors are going to try to sell their house in September. I don’t know why they didn’t try to sell in June or July. I’m pretty sure the real estate would have been better at that time of year.

I mean if your house looks nice and if your yard has some plants in good condition it should be easier to sell right? Besides, aren’t people with kids looking for houses at the end of the school year so that they can get settled before their child’s new school year starts?

September … yeah I can see houses selling in September but it’s probably less likely that a family with school aged children would buy at that time of year … well unless the parents were moving to the city for a job or something.

Actually maybe this works in our favor. Since we can hear our neighbors much too well it might be good if people who don’t have children buy the house next door. Believe me – we call our neighbors child, a 13 year old boy who’s on the heavy side two tons of fun! No we aren’t really picking on him because he’s a little overweight … it’s just because he’s so loud! He bangs up and down the stairs and when he was younger I swear he used to jump up and down on the couch. Bang, bAng, BaNg! So noisy!

It’ll be quiet around here soon

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

Haha! I think it’s going to be a little quieter around here for a while! Our noisy neighbors are going on vacation! An orlando vacation. Yeah!

I think they are leaving sometime next week and they’ll be gone for at least a week. No more karaoke parties for a while! No more tuba or electric guitar vibrating through my walls. Yeahhhhh!

Then, as I said the other day, they might also be moving! They’re going to put their house up for sale sometime in September to test the market. Oh I hope that they get an offer or two! Their house is a corner lot which I’ve heard are harder to sell, but then they have almost twice the yard space of everyone else in the neighborhood so that might help them sell.

Oh I can’t wait for them to go on their holiday and then maybe move away.

What happened to that Pirate show?

August 9, 2007 by Tricia

There’s so little to watch on TV that lately Chris and I, in our down time, have been reduced to watching cartoons on TV! King of the Hill, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Futurama. I’m starting to feel like I’m back in lower school or high school!

I’m so bored of television! It’s not like I watch much TV, but when I do feel like watching there’s never anything on.

What happened to that Pirate show – Pirate Masters? – that was on Thursday nights? I thought it was only going to have a one week break, but it wasn’t on this week either.

I guess we’ll have to start renting some movies or something.

If my husband had his way we’d always watch war and religion based documentaries. Not that some of those aren’t interesting and or informative from time to time, but when it comes to documentaries I prefer biography, travel, history, and wildlife related documentaries.

What do you like watching on TV these days? Are you are bored as I am?

The house is getting cleaned and I’m not lifting a finger

August 9, 2007 by Tricia

Wow!

Chris is actually helping with cleaning the house! He’s actually initiating it!

I hate having guests drop in when the house isn’t tidy. I think Chris has finally listened to me. He came home from work yesterday and started vacuuming. I refinished our teak table. Then today he came home from work and he got to work cleaning the upstairs bathroom!

Wow!

It’s funny because just yesterday I was thinking of hiring a cleaning service. I’ve toyed with the idea before but there was no way I could justify the expense when we lived in our tiny apartment. Now however with our house, and my health not being the greatest having someone come in to clean once every two weeks or so might be a good idea.

I mean, I think that’s why Chris kind of took over on the cleaning yesterday and today. He normally doesn’t do too much cleaning. He helps out, but he’s not the main cleaner. He knows I’ve been feeling really bad the last week + and how I feel about having guests in our home when it’s not up to par so I guess that spurred him on.

I’m not complaining! The house is cleaner and other than answering his questions as to what cleaners to use etc I haven’t had to do a thing! Hmmm maybe I should be “sick” more often?
