They could be twins

May 7, 2007 by Tricia

I didn’t have the best day today. Got up early and had an appointment with the pain doctor who I’m starting to think is talking in circles and not thinking things out. I’ll get more into that perhaps in another post.

Anyway, I wasn’t feeling up to par so around 5 pm I decided to lie down on the couch for half an hour or so and have a nap. I was hoping I’d feel better when I got up.

Well, I didn’t fall asleep until after 6, and then I was awoken at 7 pm by my elderly neighbor banging on my door and coming right into the house! That’ll be yet another post. Don’t worry Chris was there, I wasn’t sleeping all by myself with the door unlocked.

I awoke to see that Chris was watching a television show called the Sea Hunters. To my amazement this one man, James Delgado, the Canadian Executive Director of the Vancouver Maritime Museum and one of the world’s leading maritime archaeologists looked very much like one of my favorite CSI characters.

Gil Grissom

Watching him talk about the dive they were doing and the shipwreck that they’d discovered from the late 1800’s in the Baltic Sea I noticed that not only did he look like Gil Grissom from CSI (Las Vegas version, played by William Petersen), but his facial expressions and mannerisms were very much like Grissoms’.

I couldn’t find a photo of Gil Grissom that look as much like James Delgado as I thought he did on the episode of Sea Hunters, but even in this comparison they could at least be brothers couldn’t they? Just watch the first minute or so of the first video on this page, at about 50 seconds you’ll catch a good look of James and he looks an awful lot like Gil.

What do you think? Close enough to be brothers? Fraternal twins? At the very least relatives?

May 5, 2007 by Tricia

romangreenbergshorts.jpg

Did you know that the popular backgammon online site BackgammonMasters.com will be auctioning off heavyweight boxer, Roman Greenbergs famous boxing shorts for $100,000?

Backgammon Masters has been a long time supporter of this 24 year old boxer. He’s one of the youngest heavyweight boxers ever to compete at this level. He has an undefeated record of 25 – 0. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t become a heavyweight champ.

BackgammonMasters.com bought Greenberg’s shorts for a large sum of money in an effort to help the young boxer make it to the top of the professional ranks. The money will help with his training. There are big hopes that Greenberg will take on one of the top 5 boxers in the WBO this year.

Shortly after the big fight backgammonMasters.com will auction of the famous shorts. Online backgammon tournament bidding will start at $100,000. All proceeds of the auction will go to charity to help Arab and Jewish youths in distress.

Backgammon is known as Tavla in Arab Countries, and it’s BackgammonMasters hope that by donating to this charity, and through a popular game such as backgammon that peace may eventually be realized for these two middle eastern groups.

If you enjoy playing backgammon please do visit the Backgammonmasters site. You’ll find online tournaments and you can even win real money by using their downloadable game software. You might also try an online version of the Spanish dice game Perudo or Poker. Check it out.

iGliss – organize your media and all the websites you enjoy in one place!

May 5, 2007 by Tricia

I just spent some time visiting a new site where members can Mix, sync, and share your media from the Web and PCs. This new site is called iGliss.

The site was created in order to make it easier for you to both collect, mix, synchronize various types of media, and then share it with your friends or with the world. Once you register you can begin using the site to share your favorite photos, videos, audio recordings or even blogs from the web.

There are so many interesting features it’s hard to know where to begin. You can use iGliss in so many ways. As I mentioned above you can simply use it to share your pictures and videos with friends and family, or you can use the site to keep track of cool photos that your friends and acquaintance’s have recently posted on Flickr.

You can watch the latest videos from sites like YouTube and Grouper, or listen to internet talk shows and news podcasts. You can even use it to read new posts from from favorite blogs.

I really like some of the features. I mean, I run several websites, yet I want to stay in touch with what’s happening on the web and read my ever growing list of favorite blogs but it can be hard to keep up with it all. I spend an hour on a forum, an hour or two reading RSS feeds or visiting site after site, then to relax or get ideas for posts I might sometimes stop in at Youtube to see if there’s any good videos that I can use. Now, with iGliss it seems like I can do much of that right from the iGliss site. That’s amazing. For me that would be a real time saver!

You don’t have to upload anything to the site. All you need to do once you become a free member is start selecting websites, RSS feeds and any other media that you’d like to list in your account and iGliss will automatically synchronize the media content that you’ve selected and keep track of it all for you.

I’m in. I just signed up for a membership. I think I’ll be exploring the site for a while! See you there I hope!

Grey’s Anatomy debut’s Addisons new show

May 4, 2007 by Tricia

So, who watched Grey’s Anatomy last night? I didn’t realize that it was going to be a two hour show, but after watching it i can see why. They kept flitting back and forth between regular Grey’s anatomy and as far as I know the as yet unnamed new show that Addison (Kate Walsh) will be moving over to next season.

I kind of liked what I saw of the new show … it was a good introduction to the characters and I certainly like all of the actors that will be in it. Mmmmm Still, as my husband said it’s got a soap opera kind of feel to it. He compared it to Desperate Housewives which he dislikes. I don’t think the new show will be quite like D.H. but from what I can see it’s not going to be at all like Grey’s Anatomy either. I can also tell you that neither show comes close to a real life hospital either!

I found myself teary eyed several times throughout the show. Yes I’m a sap! Too many of the story lines hit close to home I guess. Chris and I want to have a baby and due to my illness it’s not happening so it kind of hit me when Addison was going through her emotions when she found out she couldn’t have children.

Also, the death of Meredith’s step mother hit me too. The anguish on her lost fathers face got to me, and I could understand his anger at the medical system first being told that it was just a simple infection and not understanding how it could get so out of control.

I keep wondering if George (T.R. Knight) is going to leave the show. I mean if he transfers to another hospital … well it’s not the one that Addison will be working in next season so where does that leave him? If he does leave I wonder if has to do with all the ruckus about Isaiah Washington’s remarks earlier this year when he called him a fag? You gotta wonder.

What did you think of the episode?

The lengths people go to …

May 3, 2007 by Tricia

I didn’t realize that people took me so seriously about some of my blogrolls. Lately I’ve had a string of people wanting to get on my “I am Canadian” blogroll and they’ve been writing me to me with proof of just how Canadian they really are. LOL

Really I’m not that stringent with the rules. I can often tell by how the person writes or some of the cities or cultural references that they make on their sites that they really are Canadian. I mean we are a unique culture even if we do sometimes struggle with the onslaught of American culture that comes our way 24 hours a day.

We spell words differently. That’s right this site is not full of spelling mistakes like some people probably think. We do spell many of our words the British way, after all we are still part of the Commonwealth, even if we’ve formally declared our independence. So when I slip and spell words like honour, behaviour, neighbourhood, cheque, barbecue, favour, jewelery and so on they are not spelling mistakes.

We have phrases that are particularly Canadian, and passions that go unmatched against our American counterparts. Hockey and beer come to mind.

There are also foods that are unique to Canadian culture such as Beaver tails, peameal bacon (Americans call it Canadian bacon), Tourtiere – a fantastic french meat pie, Poutine, Smarties- ours are chocolate rather than sour candies and so on.

One of the latest people to join the I am Canadian Blogroll sent in her proof of her Canadianesse by writing a post about being Canadian. It’s fantastic. I didn’t get too far into her post before I was adding her to the blogroll. Cori’s a great read too so I’m happy to add her to the list.

I just love it when people get creative!

images.jpg Speaking of something truly Canadian, definitely cultural icons, and somewhat creative … Bob and Doug Mackenzie are coming back!

On May 24th, which is our Victoria day long weekend to celebrate the former Queen of England’s birthday, and traditionally known as the “May 24” when Canadians tend to go camping, party and drink cases of beer – all containing 24 bottles or cans of course – a one hour tribute to Bob and Doug Mackenzie will be aired on CBC.

It’s really poor planning on the Canadian Broadcasting Companies part because as I just said this is the weekend that Canadians go to the cottage or go camping and most often do not have access to TV.

So if you do have plans that weekend set your VCR’s, DVR’s or TIVO to tape the show for you. I’m certain it will be a good one.

One final peek at our Canadian icons Bob and Doug MacKenzie

BTW I know that the infamous Ted Murphy is a fan of Bob and Doug – hope he’s taking note of this too.

My husband got all excited about this too and is working on a post that will hopefully contain a video. I’ll link to his post when he’s done. He needs a beer for inspiration, he’ll be done soon. It’s done – check out his view of Bob and Doug.
