Massive writing mode!

May 22, 2007 by Tricia

I’m on a writing streak today in case you can’t tell! I don’t know where it’s all coming from! Watch, there’ll be no new posts the rest of the week because I write myself dry today. LOL

Tomorrow the weather is supposed to warm up nicely here, and I’ve got a ton of garden work to do. So maybe it’s a good thing that I’m writing so much today.

Perhaps tomorrow I’ll bring the laptop outside and see what sitting in the garden inspires me to write about? Oh oh, look out … my gardening blog maybe end up with an onslaught of new posts if I do that! I guess that’d be ok if I actually saved some posts as drafts for a rainy day. Or in the case of a blog writer – a writing block day.

Do you ever sit in front of your computer and get in a real writing mood and find that before you know it you’ve written 10 posts?

Web design and Graphic Arts courses?

May 22, 2007 by Tricia

I think I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been seriously considering going back to school for some course in web design, graphics and perhaps internet marketing.

I have years of experience in creating websites for others and myself, but I never pursued this as a form of employment. It’s always been something I’ve done on the side.

Now that I’ve been stuck at home for about a year and a half due to my stupid illness I’ve discovered that I actually can make a living by doing work through the internet. Whether it be marketing or design I haven’t fully decided, but I really do think I should work on my skills and learn a few more things if I really want to make this work. So I’ve been looking at the courses at Collins College. I don’t know if I’ll take any of their courses, but it’s giving me some great ideas.

I’m actually in the middle of redesigning a few of our sites right now. This is the only one that’s giving me trouble. The coding isn’t complex but it’s not as straightforward as on all the rest of the blogs. One wrong move and the site doesn’t work anymore! Perhaps if I did take some courses weird code like the one that makes up this theme wouldn’t be as much of a problem?

Another House Rerun?

May 22, 2007 by Tricia

Why is House a rerun this week? All the other shows have either ended or are having their finales this week and House is a rerun? The finale for House is next week?

Darn!

I’m setting up our DVR for taping. Chris isn’t home, so I’ll tape whatever shows we like and we’ll watch them when we have some time. Since House is a rerun it turns out that I’m not taping very much at all tonight.

Oh I don’t know if I ever mentioned this. I’m not writing the Watching House blog anymore.

I wasn’t really getting anything out of it. It was really frustrating to try to write a post that had something to do with the TV show five days a week when it was in reruns for two months through the winter. I just couldn’t see how I’d make it through the summer that way. It was also making me almost hate to watch the show. House went from being one of my favorite shows to something that was truly a “chore” to watch.

Now I’m getting back into it, but I’m still in analyze mode. There are more medical mistakes on that show than any of the other major medical dramas on TV.

Home made breads and pastries

May 22, 2007 by Tricia

Do you like the smell and taste of homemade bread? My mom used to make home made bread just about every time we went home to visit. She actually taught me how to make bread, pasty and a number of deserts when I was pretty young. It actually turned out that I made pastry dough better than my mom so I kind of became the family pastry chief for a long while.

When I moved away from home and started living on my own I still made my own bread and occasionally made pastry too. You know, pie shells that I could use whenever I wanted and so on?

Unfortunately, since we moved into the house I haven’t been making many homemade deserts, pastries or even homemade breads. Even though I know that homemade breads are generally healthier and have more fibre in them than store bought breads.

I guess I don’t make bread, deserts or pastry very often because we aren’t big desert eaters around here. In fact, I’ve never even been a big bread eater … well unless it’s homemade and fresh out of the oven!

Still, I think I should start making some breads and more home made things again. We have a freezer, I can always freeze them.

Once reason why I’m thinking about home made breads today is because my sister is always talking about how much she loves her bread making machine. So … I’ve started to think about getting one myself. I don’t find making bread from scratch all that hard, but maybe I’d make it more often if we had a bread machine. Certainly there’s some great bread machine recipes out there.

Do you have a bread machine? If you do, how do you like it?

My one and only trip to Disney Land

May 22, 2007 by Tricia

I just realized that it’s my youngest nieces birthday this Friday! Ahhh she lives on the other side of the country! I can’t possibly get a gift to her in time! I hate it when I miss a birthday.

I was reminded of her birthday when I got an email from my brother. They’re going to take a little vacation at the end of the month since their girls will be finished school. They’re going to travel to Florida and stay in an Orlando vacation rental. It’s almost right beside Disney Land and they plan to spend some time at Disney land going on the rides and seeing the sites. They haven’t been there since their kids were pretty young, and now that the girls are getting older this might be their last time to go as a family.

The only time I’ve been to Disney Land was about 10 years ago. I went to Florida to see some friends that I’d met through my work with reptiles. It was truly a reptilian vacation. We hit every zoo that had reptiles in all of Florida! Which means the only place I went to at Disney land was Discovery Island! LOL

When I was in Florida that time, much of the northern part of the state was on fire. I was staying in the Tampa area and the air was just full of smoke. It was June too, so it was pretty darn hot. Not the best time of year to visit Florida.

I wonder how my brother and his family are going to like Florida in June!
