One more exam and then I’m done!

December 13, 2012 by Tricia

I’m so happy to say that I’m almost done my nursing courses! Yeah! One more exam to write and I’m done done done! I’ve done extremely well in my studies too. Considering it’s been some time since I’ve had to study this hard it’s nice to see I was able to get back into the groove and get the kind of marks that I was getting when I originally studied nursing.

Then … with any luck I’ll be back to work some time in the new year. I just have to have a couple more meetings with Human Resources at my workplace and ta da .. back to work for the first time in a while. That will be interesting!

It took a while to getting back into studying all the time but I think I might actually miss it in a few days when I’m done. I was actually thinking that I might take a surgical nursing course sometime in the spring. Break out the scalpel blades! LOL I certainly already have experience in that area from my work in the pain clinic and from having worked with a plastic surgeon but if I take a surgical nursing course I’ll definitely be able to work in the OR in our hospital. In the meantime I hope to get back into the ER. I loved working in the ER.

Ok .. back to studying if I’m going to ace that last exam.

It’s that time of year – so many sales!

November 20, 2012 by Tricia

I guess it’s time to get ready for the holidays. We’ve already had Thanks Giving here in Canada, but I know my American friends are just about to celebrate one of their biggest holidays of the year and the excitement is building not just for the upcoming holidays but for shopping, shopping and more shopping.

I don’t know about you but I’ve been bombarded with commercials, flyers and emails advertising special Black Friday sales. As I said I’m in Canada so I can only imagine what it must be like for those of you in the States who can truly participate in the sales. Sure, stores here will have sales and those of us who live near the boarder can drive across the boarder and get in on some deals. We can also get in on some of the online deals although not all of the online stores have bargains for international customers. I don’t feel all that international being in Canada but I suppose I am.

If I had some spare money and I could go on a spending spree I think I’d get another TV for upstairs. Nothing expense as it would rarely be used, but it would be nice to replace the very old tv that’s already up there! I might also look into getting some comfortable folding chairs so that when we have too many visitors for dinner we’d have extra chairs for the table! Ok, so I don’t really need much .. but I’m sure if I was actually browsing through a store or looking at a site that had some fantastic sales going on I’d come up with a few more things that I’d “need”. LOL

What about you? Are you going to take advantage of some of the holiday sales coming up this week? Or are you going to stay home and celebrate Thanks Giving with your family for the whole weekend and forget the sales?

The neighborhood storm damage

November 2, 2012 by Tricia

I’ve been out walking around the neighborhood this week and it looks like there are quite a few trees that were damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

Last Monday we had a lot of wind and rain here in Toronto and we lost power over night. We didn’t personally have any damage. Just a little windblown yard but that’s about it. However, as I said, there were a lot of people with damaged trees and trees fallen over in their yards or trees fallen down on their cars.

There are some areas of Toronto where houses are built in fairly low lying areas and they end up having flooding problems every time there’s a terrible rain so I’m sure there were a lot of houses with flooded basements too.

I should have taken some pictures of the damage that I saw. I think most of the trees have been cleaned up by now. Overall the storm wasn’t as bad here as I thought it might be. I know it was a lot worse on the US east coast.

When I was walking around look at damage I thought the local pharmacy had been damaged because I saw a lot of activity there but they were just upgrading and renovating a bit. I guess they had just got some new pharmacy shelving from mfried.com judging by the boxes saw outside and that must have been why there was so much activity there. They weren’t open for business the day I noticed them working on their store.

Do you experience Hurricane Sandy? How did you get through the storm?

Trying to have a quiet house

October 30, 2012 by Tricia

My husband’s been trying to find something to do this week while I finish up a big school related project and start studying for a big exam. He was trying to do a little bit of renovations but that really interfered with my studying for my last exam so that’s not going to work this week.

Oh and it doesn’t help that the other day the stopper on our upstairs bathroom drain got stuck .. or maybe it does because that kept him busy trying to fix it a good portion of last night and part of today. It’s still not quite fixed!

Anyway .. tomorrow he’s going to go out and spend a few hours in a music store. He can kill a whole day there. Unfortunately he can also spend a lot of money in a music or guitar store if he’s so inclined too! I know he wants to pick up at least one audio cable. That’s ok. Maybe some guitar strings too. Hopefully that’s the end of the spending. Hopefully for the rest of his time there he just spends time trying out the guitars in the guitar booth and I’ll just spend my time at home studying studying studying!

Halfway through my courses

October 27, 2012 by Tricia

I am so ready for my college courses to be over! I’m about halfway through my two courses and it seems that all I do is study study study. I suppose you could say I’m a good student, but I’m due for a break.

My worst problem with going back to school is that I’m taking online course and my husband is home quite a bit and since we’re doing renovations it’s quite distracting. I seem to study best when he’s not around.

I’m also concerned that I’m not moving around as much as I was before I “went back to school”. What with all this studying that I’m doing there’s a lot of sitting around going on. So .. I’m trying to get up at regular intervals and go up and down the stairs a few times, do some stretches and even go out for a walk with the dog. Anything to get up and get moving. It gives me a chance to stretch for a few minutes and gets my head out of the books.

Last weekend I was so busy studying for one of my midterm exams I wasn’t even cooking meals! I was totally glued to my books and the computer until I decided it was time to take my exam. The only interruptions I allowed was to get up and feed my dog, let her outside, or to open the door to the delivery person with the food that I’d ordered! Oh and my mother in law called and I had to talk to her briefly, but when she started talking about some new worship chairs that they’d just purchased for the church that she works in I decided it was time to get off the phone or else I’d be talking for a long time … back to the books for me!

Now I’m busy doing my regular studying and getting ready for a mid term in another course … oh and a big project in one of the courses too. I’m so ready for this to be done! Maintaining all of my websites and doing these courses takes ALL of my time. I’ll be sleeping a lot come mid-December!
