A week of appointments

December 12, 2006 by Tricia

Starting today I’m going to go through another week of doctors appointments. I have to see the family doctor this morning. One of the reason that I need to see her is to access whether I’m ready to go back to work or not. I hate to say this but I’ve been doing horribly lately and I think if they send me back I’ll be off work again by Christmas. I hate failing- and being off work feels like failure, and then trying to go back and getting sicker and sicker as I work my shifts also feels like a major failure. I hate this. I wish my Crohns would just settle down.

Then on Wednesday I get to see my gastrointernoligist. It’s time to go over the results of all the tests he’s put me through in the last several months from gastroscopy, coloscopy, CT enteroclysis, and uhmmm rectal MRI – why they didn’t take MRI photos of my small bowel while I was lying in that horrible machine for an hour I don’t know but they only did the one area. I already know that the scopes didn’t show anything – no surprise there, my problems are in the small bowel where the scopes don’t reach, but I don’t know the results of the CT. The MRI surprisingly, because I didn’t think I had any problems down there, did show granulomas, enlarged nodes – all signs of an inflammatory process going on. We’ll see how the doctor interprets all of these lovely results.

I also need to find out from him if he thinks I should try to return to work. What I’m hoping is that some of the results he obtained from the tests will give him some ideas, and maybe he’ll try me on different Crohn’s meds. Maybe ones that actually work so that I can feel better and get back to work.

I barely go out anymore because I get so nauseated when I’m walking around, or my abdomen starts hurting more and more. Unfortunately this means I’m not getting much exercise or activity – which I hate.

The last appointment that I have is on Friday afternoon. It’s with the Occupational health doctor from my workplace. It’s for him that I need to get notes from the other doctors that I’m seeing this week. Notes that tell him whether I should return to work or not. Since I’ve been off work for a year he needs some official paperwork to back things up if I end up staying off for another month or more.

Wish me luck- either that I spontaneously get better or that I have good appointments with my doctors and we come to some decisions that work for all of us – mainly me of course – anything that will make me start to get better would be great.

Flowers and gourmet foods make perfect gifts

December 12, 2006 by Tricia

I just heard about another site that’s perfect for this time of year. Well I guess it’s perfect for anytime of year, but since this is the holiday season when we’re all giving gifts to our loved ones, friends and even co-workers or employees I say this company is perfect right now.

Have you heard of www.dotflowers.com yet? Or perhaps made purchases from them in the past? They have fabulous flower gift ideas, and a large selection of gourmet gift baskets. When I heard about the company I was surprised to learn that they also offered the gourmet treats, but I suppose that’s what makes them such a well rounded company where you should be able to find a great gift for just about anyone on your list. Flowers, cookies, gift baskets, and gourmet food items are among some of the many items you could select as a gift this year.

The company offers same day flower delivery using Florist Direct flower arrangements which are designed in your local floral shop. You could also have field fresh flower delivery straight from their growers fields. I don’t think I’ve heard of a company that does that before now. Dotflowers.com’s customer service is supposed to be the best as well.

Do any of my readers give flowers, gift baskets or gourmet gift baskets out at Christmas time? If you do, who do you give these kinds of gifts too?

Jewelry and the holidays just go together

December 12, 2006 by Tricia

I am so not envying all my friends in the jewelry trade right now. This is the busiest time of the year for retailers, and the trades people that work behind the scenes to make the jewelry to your exact specifications.

Truthfully- I both hated and loved the holiday season when I was a jeweller. I loved it because it meant I was busy and also because I was helping others bring some joy into the holiday season with the Christmas jewelry that I created, or the engagement rings that I designed and that my sister engraved. What did I hate? Why the thing that I loved – it was too busy! I worked 18+ hour days and it never stopped until the 2nd week of January or so. It’s a crazy business to be in.

My sister still works in the jewelry trade as an engraver. She’s working long hours right now as I sit her and type out this post. Actually, she’s so busy that she’s working weekends too. I’m holding our very small Christmas get together this coming Sunday here at the house and I’m still not sure whether my sister will be able to make it or not. She probably doesn’t even know yet considering it’s only Tuesday and still early in the week.

So tell me, how many of you bought jewelry for a loved one this Christmas? Did anyone buy an engagement ring or does anyone hope to get one by New Years Eve?

My brothers travels

December 12, 2006 by Tricia

I was just thinking about my brother that lives in Vancouver. He’s a geologist – well he’s more than a genealogist, he’s the vice president of one mining company and the president of another. He still goes out on exploration jobs and visits the sites, but his main work in the last few years has been trying to secure funding from investors and venture capitalists. I’ll never forget when he secured his first million dollar check. He was here in Toronto at a trade show, talking with prospective investors and I met up with him that evening for dinner and he was so pleased with himself.

Trade shows are one of the many ways that he promotes the company and tries to get the interest of potential donors. I don’t think he really enjoys the whole trade show routine. It’s tiring – he shows up late in the evening and secures his booth or has to secure in early the following morning then he spends time setting up the trade show displays, then it’s at least one or two long days on his feet all day talking, talking, talking. After that he’s usually off to anther trade show somewhere in the world or back home for a weekend with the family before he has to get on yet another plane to go to another show or another meeting.

Another round of trade shows will be coming up for my brother in the new year. I’m sure he’s looking forward to that. Co-incidentally I just found a company online that specializes in Trade show displays, booths, graphics and exhibits and I’m going to tell my brother about ExhibitDeal because I think they may have some products that will make his job a little easier. They have everything he needs to set up a successful display from table throws to literature racks. The materials are lightweight and easy to transport and assemble. Perhaps he’s already using products from this company, but if he isn’t he might be interested in hearing about Exhibit Deal.

Create your own Area rug design

December 11, 2006 by Tricia

Now here’s an interesting idea. Have you ever wished that you could create your own area rug with your own design? I’m sure that if you are in the interior design business you wish all the time that you could do this. Well now you can. The Custom Area Rugs by Tufenkian Carpets program is open to all interior designers as well as home owners.

Using their state of the art rendering system, Tufenkian can create any design to your exact specifications. Choose from their existing patterns and modify it as you wish, or create something totally new. All you need is your imagination and you’re all set. I took a look at some of their recent design projects and they are just gorgeous.

The company has been in business for over 20 years and provides reliable and timely service. Visit the site to learn more and perhaps to start creating your own custom carpet.
