Cool Bug Stuff – fun and educational

December 27, 2006 by Tricia

Did you realize that as a reptile owner, you don’t just become the owner of one new and fascinating pet but that you can often become the owner of hundreds of other pets that go along with your pet reptile? “Oh oh what’s she talking about now” you’re probably asking. LOL well, what I mean is, that a number of reptiles need to eat bugs, so when I had my Chinese Water Dragons I had to keep crickets, mealworms and earthworms for them to eat. There were times when I had 1000 Zoophoba (king mealworms), 500 crickets chirping away in special bug keeping containers in my home, as well as a couple of containers of earthworms in my fridge.

When you have to keep those kinds of creatures in your home for your pet you start to become fascinated with their life cycles too, and if you’re like me you start learning about the creepy crawlies. Believe me I’ve written pages and pages of information about bugs on two of my other websites. So when I saw that CoolBugStuff.com was offering an opportunity to write a post about them I jumped on the idea.

CoolBugStuff.com is a website that educates people about bugs. The site is written in a way that a child can understand easily. There’s tons of free information on hundreds if not thousands of bugs, as well as educational resources, and cool bug related educational products. I can easily see teachers visiting this site to find information and or projects to use with their kids in class. Isn’t there always some kind of bug related project in school?

The company sells bug related toys, clothes, books, games, science and bug related kits, and even uhm … edible bugs for the home and classroom. Interesting. Also, if you happen to be in South Florida CoolBugStuff.com does creepy crawly bug Adventure shows for Kindergarten to Grade five classes.

I think this is a great site. One I would have gladly written about here or on my reptile related sites because I find bugs interesting. Oh, I guess I could have written about it on my gardening site too. Bugs are very important to gardeners – some are bad and eat your plants, and others eat the bugs that eat your plants. I’m sure CoolBugStuff.com has that kind of information on their site too – so if you can’t get into bugs simply because they are fascinating creatures, perhaps if you are a gardener, you might find some of the information there useful for your gardening needs. Big hint- look up lady Bugs while you are there.

I was interviewed by BlogTO

December 16, 2006 by Tricia

I completely forgot to mention that my interview was posted over at Blog TO. It’s a blog about all things Toronto and it’s fairly popular. They have a section called Blogerati and they regularly do interviews with fellow Toronto bloggers in that area.

I was pleased to have been contacted by them for an interview. I managed to plug a few of the bloggers that I like to visit in my interview as well. Check out the interview to see if I mentioned you.

Oh and in case I do happen to get some visitors from BlogTo. First of welcome to my humble little blog, and second – would you like to join the Toronto Bloggers Blogroll? Or if you live too far outside of Toronto .. like maybe Nova Scotia or British Columbia perhaps then you might be interested in Joining the I am Canadian Blogroll? They’re free to join for all Toronto or Canadian bloggers (even Canadians living in other Countries right now too).

Are you looking for an internship?

December 8, 2006 by Tricia

I know several people, who, when they’ve graduated from College or University end up having a hard time finding an internship so that they can begin their career. So I was pleased to see that there’s a website, UK based that puts companies searching for interns and people looking for internships together.

If you are looking for Internships Abroad then you need to check out this site.

The site is easy to use. Simply fill in the kind of internship that you are looking for in the quick search box, when you’d be available and what Country you’d like to work in (currently the UK and Spain are listed) and a list of available internships will come up for you to browse.

Increasing link popularity

December 6, 2006 by Tricia

Have you ever wondered how you can increase the link popularity of your site? Or why it might be important to do so?

The main reason why you would want to increase link popularity is so that you site will climb higher in the search engines under keywords that are specific to your site. For example if you site is about roses and several people have linked to your site in a number of different ways – lists of links, links with texts in articles and posts etc with the word rose or roses in the link then your site will probably climb closer to the top of the search engines.

Google in particular is a good search engine to concentrate on getting improved ranking in. No one has quite figured out it’s complicated algorithm, but we know that one of the things that Google’s algorithm looks for is the number of links to your site from other sites. We’ll call them off site links. Google also gives higher importance to links that are on sites that are similar in genre to your own, as well as links that are with in posts in a contextual manner rather than just listed on a link page. You can get more information about increasing your link popularity and more in depth information on how Google’s algorithm works by visiting the link I listed earlier.

The methods that many people use to increase link popularity are to try to have their press releases distributed across the internet, purchasing links from link brokers, and trading links with other websites – preferably sites that are similar to your own in some way.

Feeling Special!

October 24, 2006 by Tricia

I’m having a great week so far and it’s only Tuesday. I hope that it doesn’t all go downhill from here. LOL

The very popular Mr. Fab of Pointless Drivel fame has bestowed a great honor on me this week. He’s been calling me his technical adviser for a while now. Apparently this is a very prestigious position over at the Pointless Institute for scientific studies – here in known as PISS.

The only other blogger that has a higher position there, that I know of, is Shelli from Shelli’s Sentiments who is the Technical Director. I guess Mrs. Fab has the highest position or positions – she’s gotta be the Director and probably the chief Editor too because I know Mr. Fab checks some of his posts with her before he puts them out for all the world to see. Those ones clearly have her stamp of approval all over them.

So what’s that great honor? Well the Fabulous one left me and Shelli in charge of his place! Muhahahahah! The poor fool, he doesn’t know what he’s done! Shelli’s been MIA so until she arrives over there I’m trying to keep the peace at the Bosses place.

Then, earlier today, I found out that I’ve been the top visitor/commenter over at Doc Mom’s place You’ve got 2 B kidding. She actually has property on her blog! Can you believe that? There’s houses and cars on a little Cul de Sac and she awards a lot (a house!) to bloggers that have proven their merit by being faithful visitors and being the top commenter on the cul de sac for three weeks in a row.

So now I have to decide which lot I want. It’s a tough decision. You could give me a hand by going over to Doc Moms and looking at the satellite overview of the lots. Two are already taken. The Fab, and Zed from The world according to Zed already have lots on the Cul de Sac. There’s still room for more though! I think if we’re lucky Sans and Mel might join us soon too.

I wonder if anything else interesting will happen this week?

At 9:30 this morning I’ve got to go and see the Occupational health doctor at work. I never know if he’s going to say well it’s time that we tried getting you back to work, or if he’s going to keep me off for longer. I know that he was hoping that I would have had an appointment with my GI doctor by now to discuss the results of all my tests, but I only just had my MRI on October 11th. I called to make an appointment with the GI doctor and I can’t get in until December 13th! I’d like to see him earlier because depending upon what the results of my tests were he might end up trying me on some new medications, and if he does perhaps they will actually work this time and I’ll start to feel better. Anyway- wish me luck at the Occ Health appointment. The doctor is actually very nice but it always kind of feels like I’m going to see the Principal whenever I have to go there for an appointment.
