The Battle Rock Spot

May 12, 2006 by Tricia

My tenant this week is a law student whose studies are over for the summer. Unfortunately he won’t be sitting idly enjoying his summer vacation as he will be moving to another state and starting a new job. No rest for the wicked weary.

His most recent posts are amusing tales about a computer illiterate dry cleaner, and a robot like grocery store clerk. I’ve enjoyed his writing as I’ve gone through his posts, and I hope you will too. Visit the Battle Rock Spot and judge for yourself.

Some great reading can be found by visiting the other sites that bid on my space this week:

Get a Grip on Life

Winged Emotion

Advertising for Success

Jenster’s Blog

Long, Slow, Beautiful Dance

Consult a Goddess

Meltwater. Torrents. Meanderings. Delta

Enjoy!

What’s a Kid Zoo?

May 4, 2006 by Tricia

I had a really hard time deciding who to pick as a roomie this week. It was a very tough choice, but I kept coming back to a site that I’ve been reading for a while now- My Life in the kid Zoo.

Undercover Angel- as the owner of the site is known, is the mother of 4 children. Wow! Many of her posts are stories about interactions with her kids. They are well written, and often humorous. One of her latest posts is a bit sad, her husbands son is in foster care right now thanks to his ex, and Angel and Jake are very worried about this child and are hoping to get custody of him soon. Please give her some support on this issue. Oh and read her Thursday Thirteen – 13 Most Embarrassing Moments – it’s so funny.

Spreading some blog love, the other bidders were:

Stupid People Shouldn’t Breed – Observations about the stupid things people do, well written, humorous, also rates other sites on occasion. I liked this site enough that I plan to start reading it regularly. Check it out for yourself.

Useless Advice from Useless Men – Hilarious site. Write in with your questions and get advice from the useless men. Great reading.

All Night.org – Interesting site, latest post is about a creepy guy in the movie theater – sounds like a stalker, check it out.

– Personal diary, inspirational phrases, holiday photos

The T-Stop – Amazing writing, this is a site that I’m going to read regularly from now on. I enjoyed every post that I read on her main page.

Full Metal Photographer – Always has great photographs. I enjoy viewing this site daily to see what the latest photo is about.

A pile of Dog Bones?

April 26, 2006 by Tricia

That’s right, this weeks renter is A Pile of Dog Bones. I’ve been reading his site for the last few months as the posts are always interesting, entertaining and humorous. He occasionally talks about his work and his co-workers, creates posts about what other people are writing about on their sites- with insightful commentary, and tells tales about his interesting social life. The people in his life have been come regular characters on his site that you’ll want to hear more about.

In NYC watchdogs sticky post he talks about the child of a fellow paramedic. The child, Liam, is suffering from a rare disorder that causes him to be anemic, meaning that he needs regular transfusions of blood to stay alive. He talks about a Charity Blood drive being held in the child’s name on Saturday April 29th at the New York City Blood Center. If you happen to be in the area you should drop by and give some blood. You could help keep Liam or another person in need alive.

Where ever you are please consider donating blood at a local blood center. It’s amazing how much blood we use each day in the Emergency department. At any given time there are at least 5 people being transfused. The most frequent reason for a blood transfusion in our department is chronic or acute anemia due to a number of diseases, but even a severe nose bleed can cause you to loose enough blood that you need a transfusion. You never know when you might need a transfusion yourself. Please donate.

Visit Pile of Dog Bones and see for yourself how varied and interesting his site is, and tell him that Tricia sent you.

The other bidders were:

Infinitely pie an eclectic site – humor, insightful commentary and possibly a new feature- Psycho Ex Files (about crazy ex’s).Check it out.

The Crazy Housewife – A busy mom and her kids. Read about the “slinky” misadventure.

The Art of Getting By – Check out her post “Some like it hot” if you enjoy spicy food. Even with my bad tum I still like spicy food- but perhaps not quite as hot as she does.

Living with Multiple Personalities- an amazing site. Cat has been through a lot in her life and she’s slowly telling her story to the world. Her latest posts are a series telling the story of her teenage pregnancy. She has a number of readers hooked and eagerly awaiting her next post. Compelling stories and great writing.

If I had a Million Dollars

April 19, 2006 by Tricia

A week or so ago a group of people living in a small town near my former cottage won the lottery. I think there were 7 people in the group and they won 17 million dollars. When the story was originally broadcast it caught my eye because 1. It’s very near my cottage, and 2. I’m likely distantly related to one or two of these people since my mothers family comes from the area.

Maybe I should call them up and say “Hi, Cuz!”?

I saw a follow up to this story last night. Guess what all these new millionaires are doing? They are still working at the same job! I can see one or two perhaps continuing to work, but all of them?

What would you do if you won a million dollars?

Me? I really do like my job but I’m not sure I’d continue to work full time. I’ve been off work for 5 months due to illness and I’m bored silly, so I probably would want to work or do something that occupied my time. Perhaps I’d work part time as a nurse- If I could set my own hours.

I’d definitely pay off the mortgage on our house. No, I’d probably buy a bigger house. This one is too small. Family and very close friends would benefit as well, maybe we’d pay off their mortgages or give them a nice monetary gift. I’d like to say I’d do something special or noble with the money such as giving most of it to my favorite charity, but I know far too many people who could use a little help and sharing it with my loved ones would probably be my good deed.

Oh and I’d have one big party! I’d also travel. There are so many Countries that I’d love to visit.

In other news,

Sofie got me with the hose! Remember the little old lady that I’m mad at? Yep, she had the hose hanging on the holder today when I came out of the house and she was waiting for me. I truthfully told her that I have trouble getting our hose on the spigot so my husband usually does it. It’s not that I’m not handy, it’s just that old water taps and newer hose attachments don’t always fit together that well. really!

She pretended to be confused and started to show me how she couldn’t put the hose on by actually starting to screw it on. It was crooked so I told her to straighten it and she started threading it on, while I stood there and encouraged her. (Evil Grin) I asked her why she didn’t get her son to do it when he visited, each day this week so far, but she didn’t answer.

She then decided that she wanted to water her grass but it turns out that her water wasn’t on. It was still shut off inside the house. I wasn’t about to go in her basement and try to find the right pipe. That really is a job for her family, so now she will have to ask one of them to do it.

Later today I get to go to a sleep clinic for a consultation. Who me? A sleep clinic? Me who does most of her posts in the middle of the night, usually between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.? I don’t have a problem sleeping- I just don’t want to sleep.

Actually one of my doctors wants me to go to get tested because I can’t sleep after I do a night shift, and if I go for a sleep study and they find that something is wrong with my sleep pattern they might write a letter stating that I shouldn’t do night shifts. She thinks that if I have a letter stating that I have a sleep problem my workplace will take it more seriously.

I hope they don’t want me to do the sleep study too soon. I do need to try to get back to a more regular sleep pattern before I do it. I’m also afraid that I won’t fall asleep for them. I can’t sleep well when I stay at other peoples houses or stay in a hotel, and knowing that they will have me wired up and will be monitoring me probably won’t help me fall asleep. We’ll see what happens.

Did you visit Ed at Parenting Toys yet? What you haven’t? He needs some ideas on how to cool off. He’s melting in a Texas heat wave. Got any ideas for him?

Last but not least- Happy Birthday to Bitter Bitch!

Parenting Toys

Ok, do you guys love this site or was it just the very low rental price that I set this week? Yeah, I know – it was the low price wasn’t it.

21 of you bid on my site in less than 24 hours!

I have to be honest with you though, I set the low price so that my friend Ed from Parenting Toys could be my roomie this week. Sorry!

Parenting Toys has just gone through a major re-design. I think Ed is still tinkering around with the layout but it’s a very nice looking site. Parenting Toys started out as a way for Ed to let others know about great products that would be wonderful for parents, and the site still is that- but it’s so much more. There are personal stories about a father and his son, experiencing family traditions, beautiful photo’s, and humorous stories, and of course some great write up’s for some interesting gadgets that parents might enjoy. One of my favorite posts is “My wife is seeing another Man”. Ed’s an entertaining writer- please go see for yourself. 🙂

I had a lot of fun a couple of weeks ago when I was Ed’s tenant and I certainly hope he enjoys his stay here with me this week.

Now I usually give all my bidders a link and a small article but with so many of you to list I’m afraid that I’m going to skip the ratings this week. Sorry! I do keep track of who has bid in the past and I try to give multiple bidders a turn, so if you really do want to stay with me for a week just keep trying and it will be your turn before you know it.
