Ernest Markham Clematis

Ernest Markam Clematis

I grow this lovely Clematis on a beautiful hand made wooden trellis. the trellis is made of bent branches and is shaped a bit like a door with a curved top. It’s very ornate and looks spectacular with this clematis growing on it.

I think I grow 8 or 9 different clematis in my back and front gardens now. They are great for small gardens as they don’t take much space. If you have a fence or trellis they look wonderful and they add some height to the garden.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

My sick little puppy

This weeks theme is LONG

I’ve had a very LONG day with this little cutie. As I said in an earlier post we had to take Midnight to the vet last night for the third time in two weeks.

It seems that I have a very sick puppy on my hands. She’s still active and alert, drinking and eating, but she’s a little sleepier than normal and of course she has the runs. BAD. Adding rice to her diet and the Pepto Bismal that the vet said I could give her – that I gave Friday evening, doesn’t seem to have done a thing to slow the passage of food through her system.

My Crohn’s is now acting up again as well. Probably due to a severe lack of sleep in the last two weeks thanks to my sick little puppy who’s nickname is now Squirt. (no that’s not a pun, it’s a reality!)

I know I’ve probably been talking a little too much about our new pup on this blog, but I’m so worried about her.

Enough of the cold weather – hurry up summer!

Wordless Wednesday

IMG_1510

You know … I just realized that today is Thursday. I’ve been so busy with my puppy lately and so tired as a result that I seem to have lost track of the days!

I’m already longing for summer. It’s been so cold here in the last week! Lots of snow, ice and rain and temperatures below freezing most of the time. Yuck.

I can’t wait for Spring and then Summer … especially now that we have a dog. The beach will become one of our regular destinations to take the dog I’m sure. It will be fun to walk along the boardwalk and the sandy beach with Midnight.

Being a Labrador Retriever I’m certain she’ll love the beach too, and I won’t be the least bit surprised if she does some swimming in the lake either.

A bright little rose

I love this little rose plant. It’s called Morden Sunrise and it produces the most lovely multicolored roses.

Morden Sunrise is a fairly compact rose plant. Mine has never reached more than 2 to 2.5 feet tall, yet it produces a number of bright blooms regularly throughout the growing season. It’s also a hardy rose so those in cool climates would do well with this rose.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Annual Celosia in the garden

This weeks theme is RED

spear like flower

I love growing these annual celosia flowers in my garden each year. They’re short plants, maybe 5 to 6 inches in height, but with their vibrant colors they pack a punch in the garden.

Now that we have a dog that will be sharing our garden with us we’ll have to remove a few of our plants that are known to be extremely toxic. I have no idea if celosia is toxic or not. I guess that will be another one I’ll have to look up.
