Dumbest Survivor ever?

May 9, 2008 by Tricia

Did anyone watch Survivor last night?

We didn’t watch it last night, but we did tape it.

I just saw the show and man wasn’t that stupid? I can’t believe the last guy is gone and only because he was dumb enough to believe the girls and gave away his individual immunity. I knew as each and every one of the remaining women picked up their pens that they were writing Erik’s name down.

I don’t know if he’s really the dumbest survivor ever, but after seeing the women back stab and trick several of the other guys he should have known better.

I’m hoping that either Amanda or Cirie wins on Sunday. Natalie and Parvati are just too evil to win. Even if either of them are in the last three I think they’ll have too many enemies on the jury to win.

Missing out on another weekend away

May 9, 2008 by Tricia

Chris and I were supposed to go to Brantford again this weekend. It’s Chris’ father’s birthday and there’s also a big party honoring him on Saturday night for all the years he put into training kids to play hockey.

Well … as I said we were supposed to go. Now it will just be Chris.

You see Chris’ father booked a bunch of hotel rooms for all the family that’s expected to descend on Brantford this weekend. We had been planning to bring our Lab puppy with us. We were going to bring her crate so that she could be kept out of trouble when we were out of the house at the party.

Now that we’re supposed to be staying in a hotel with the rest of the gang we can’t bring our dog. It’s not a pet friendly hotel … so that means I can’t go. I’ll have to stay home with the dog. With all the people and the chaos that surrounds Chris’ family it was going to be difficult enough bringing the puppy. Staying in a hotel (especially a non pet friendly one) would be worse.

I had wanted to go. I was also curious as to whether Walter Gretzky might show up at the banquet as he used to coach hockey along side my father in law so chances are good that he might be there. He’s a friend of the family too. I’ll make sure Chris brings a camera with him just in case.

I’d love to go to the Wimbeldon Tennis Championship this year

May 7, 2008 by Tricia

Do you enjoy watching or playing tennis? I used to play when I was a teenager, but I don’t play any longer due to a knee injury and other health issues. However I still do like to attend tournaments and watch the occasional tennis match on television.

The ultimate tennis tournament is of course Wimbeldon. It’s also the oldest major championship in Tennis. The first Wimbeldon championship was way back in 1877. Quite the history! It sounds like it was a gentleman’s game in the beginning as ladies singles and doubles weren’t entered as part of the championship until 1913.

This year the Wimbeldon tennis championships start on June 23 and run through until July 6th.

Now I know that I have a lot of readers in the UK. I’ll bet that some of you have attended matches at Wimbeldon. I’d love to hear about your experiences there. Actually I’d love to get Wimbeldon tickets for Chris and I, but there’s no way we could afford a trip to England this year. Perhaps next year. Sigh. I’ll have to settle for watching the championship on television this year.

I just went to look up ticket prices and you know it doesn’t cost as much as I thought it might. However, as I said traveling to England is a whole other ballgame for me right now. If I were going to get tickets I’d definitely want to them to be Center Court. Tennis is the kind of sport where you need to be up close. It’s much more exciting that way.

If you’re planning on attending Wimbeldon this year please remember to come back and tell me all the exciting details!

We might go to a Rush concert in July

May 6, 2008 by Tricia

When Chris’ brother was over on Sunday night he was trying to talk us into meeting him in Milwaukee in early July to go to a Rush concert. Both he and Chris are big fans of the band.

I don’t even know if Chris could get the time off in order to go to the concert. It’s in the middle of the week, July 7th I think and one of his co-workers is on holidays for the whole month of July so he’s supposed to be doing extra shifts.

If we find that we’re able to go I’ll have to look up some cheap hotels in the area for all of us to stay in. I’m sure Chris and his brother would be happy sleeping in the car for all they’d care, but if I’m traveling all that way I’m sleeping in a bed that night.

Any Rush fans out there?

Did I ever tell you that Chris used to deliver grocery products to the high end neighborhoods here in Toronto? This was like 20 years ago. He met Geddy Lee and his wife Nancy several times. Actually Geddy Lee didn’t live too far from our apartment and we’d occasionally see him and his little dog (a Maltese maybe) in the liquor store.

Men in Trees canceled

May 5, 2008 by Tricia

I was just reading TV guides Ausiello Scoop and learned that ABC has canceled Men in Trees.

I’d only started getting into that show towards the end of last season, but I enjoyed each and every show and kept up with it this season.

Did you know that during the writers strike ABC has 12 or so shows on hold that they could have been airing instead of running reruns of their other shows? Perhaps if they’d done that and hadn’t moved the show around so much Men in Tree’s would have had a bigger following now and wouldn’t have been canceled.

I have a feeling that in the next week or two we’ll start to hear about a few other shows being canceled. Ones that don’t make sense canceling because they didn’t have a chance to gain an audience.

Did you enjoy Men in Trees? Were you a fan?

If you were a fan you’ll be happy to know that when they were filming the last episodes for this season they did film scenes that would give the show closure if it were to be canceled so those scenes will be tagged onto the finale. The rest of the Men in Tree’s episodes will start up again on May 28th.
