Create your own avatar with the doll making game

January 30, 2007 by Tricia

Do you ever wonder how people make avatars to use for the gravatar.com photo in comments, or avatars that are used in forums, and side bars and in some cases even site headers?

It’s not all that hard really. All you need to do is go to a site such as Thedollpalace.com and click on Dress Up Games and start following the instructions to make your very on “doll” that’s dressed exactly the way you want him or her to be.

You can choose from a number of different doll types- Princess, New Emo, Fashion, Angels, Gothic, Celebrity, Halloween, Preps, mermaids, Christmas, Hippies, Thanksgiving, Shuni, Summer and Winter Fairies, Guys, Unique, Christmas and winter, Fairy, Pirates, original, Community, Emoz, Thematic, Babies, Greek Goddess, Diva, Bonita, Glamour, Goth, lolita and Silence doll types. Isn’t that an amazing number of choices that you can select from? If I’m not mistake you can even mix and match between the styles and doll types in order to create your own very unique doll.

A blogger that I know recently had an avatar contest on her site. She had people make up different avatars that she could use to represent her site, or herself on forums, and in chat groups and she recently picked a winner from all the submissions that she had. I can’t remember what her prize offering was, but it was a good one.

You could use an idea like that to get people to participate on your site. Contests are always a great idea on blogs. Anything that gets people interacting more often and visiting your site is always good.

Little girls always like dress up games and I’m sure you could amuse a child easily but setting them in front of the computer and showing them how to use the Dollpalace.com site. In fact you might be surprised at just how good they might be at creating new designs! Before you know it they’ll be hooked on Dollmaker.

Give the site a try. It’s easy to use because everything is drag and drop. It’s kind of fun too!

General Hospital is nothing like my hospital

January 30, 2007 by Tricia

I guess in one of the memes that I’ve written lately that wanted me to reveal five or six facts about myself I could have mentioned that along with not really enjoying shopping or talking on the phone, that I’m not much of a Soap Opera watcher.

Yes, I know, most women love at least two out of three of those things- if not all of them, but not me. What can I say. I’m unusual.

I do know that a number of my readers, as well as friends love the Soap Operas. One of their all time favorites is of course the long standing General Hospital. If you are a fan of the show you might be pleased to know that a new website located at Soaps.com discusses this show in detail. There’s recaps of the shows, discussions, spoilers, photos, and information about the stars that play your favorite characters. Visit the site for a good read.

I must say though … General Hospital sure isn’t like the hospital that I work in! Uh huh. Well … ok a little … working in a hospital is like working in a small town, you eventually know everyone else’s business even if you don’t want to!

Say No to Crack!

January 29, 2007 by Tricia

Of course that’s a great thing to do – everyone should say no to crack … but of course that’s not really what I meant to tell you about.

I wanted to tell you that Anita, from the fantastically funny “Say No to Crack” site, has been nominated for a 2007 Weblog Award. She’s got a great site that’s guaranteed to make you giggle each and every day.

So, if you haven’t already gone to the 2007 Weblog Award site to vote for your favorite sites please do go, and while you’re there maybe you could vote for Anita’s Say No to Crack blog? It’s listed near the bottom of the page in the “Best New Weblog” category.

You can vote up until Friday February 2nd. Don’t forget!

Oh – Some of my sites were nominated in a few categories too – but I didn’t make it. So I’m throwing my support Anita’s way.

Free Crossword puzzles online

January 28, 2007 by Tricia

I used to love doing crossword puzzles online all the time. I guess you could call me a crossword puzzle junkie. I mean if I really let myself play all the time again. I used to do two in particular every day when I’d turn on my computer. Hmmm maybe now I can do that again.

If you enjoy playing crossword puzzles online you can at the Free Puzzle World. If you’re really daring you can even make your own custom crossword puzzles online. Then you can invite your friends and family to play your puzzle. This could even work if you were having a contest on your blog – make a really hard puzzle and the first person to prove that they completed could win whatever prize you are offering.

If you want to, you can place the code for your custom made puzzle onto your myspace page.

In the near future Free Puzzle World will launch a Free Crossword Puzzle Contest where the first person to successfully solve it will win great prizes. When they do begin their crossword contests you’ll have to register to become a member. You can also sign up for their mailing list so you’ll be notified as soon as their crossword puzzle contests start.

Have fun playing those puzzles! Maybe I’ll see you there.

Free podcast hosting service with unlimited bandwidth

January 28, 2007 by Tricia

One of the biggest new trends in the world of blogs is Podcasting. Many of the bloggers that I know have experimented with doing their own podcasts. Some are commentaries on what’s happening in the world, others are about specific topics, and still some are very much like the persons blog – a commentary on their family life or what’s happening in their own world.

If you’ve been thinking about trying out podcasting on your site, or if you have been doing your own podcasts but you’re frustrated because the files are taking up your limited storage space, fret no more. Mypodcast is a new site where you can create a Free Podcast that will be hosted on the site.

Offering free podcast hosting, and unlimited bandwidth, podcast templates and help files and articles related to podcasting you couldn’t ask for more. Oh yes membership is completely free.

Why not visit the site to learn more about podcasting and their hosting services.

Please let me know if you try out their podcasting service- I’d love to hear what you have to say- perhaps even in your very own podcast.
