Found a new Greek restaurant – Yum!

September 27, 2007 by Tricia

The other night we ordered Greek food from a new Greek restaurant in the area. OMG it was sooooo good!

Our favorite Greek restaurant to order from closed last year for renovations. They were closed for months. When they finally opened up again they no longer delivered or even did take out! What a pity.

We’d found another Greek restaurant to order take out food from, but it wasn’t as good as our previous favorite so we hadn’t had a Greek dinner that we’d truly enjoyed for quite a while.

Until Tuesday night that is.

Tuesday night we decided to order from the new Greek restaurant. We’d had a flyer/menu stuck in our door a few weeks ago. Chris had wanted to try the restaurant earlier this month, but I was hesitant. Since I was so busy doing work on the computer that night I finally gave in and said “sure lets give it a try”.

I’m so happy that I did say yes!

I think I was saying Mmmmm for most of the meal. Very unusual for me because I can be kind of picky about my food.

We ordered Saganaki, Spanakopita, a Greek salad all to share and then Chris ordered a gyro dinner for himself while I had the grilled lamb chops. The servings were quite large so we only ate half the food we ordered. This was good of course because you know we had some tasty leftovers last night. The other bonus is that this meal was at least $20 cheaper than what we would have paid at our former favorite Greek restaurant.

Mmmmmmmmmm

Now I’ve got to think of something for tonights dinner … hmmm … probably too soon to order out again, eh?

What’s for dinner?

September 21, 2007 by Tricia

It’s already after 7 and I haven’t even begun to think of what to make for dinner!

Ah I know I can cook something from the freezer. The other day I was eying a meat pie, a Tourtiere, that I made a while back and froze. I think it’s time to pull that out and cook it. Luckily it can be cooked from frozen since it’s basically already been cooked in advance.

I usually save things like meat pie for the winter months when a good hearty warm meal is needed.

Do you have foods that you eat more often in the summer or winter? We do, and since I enjoy cooking I tend to make up a big batch of whatever recipe I tend to be working on that day and freeze whatever I’ve made in order to have a quick and easy meal on a day when I don’t have much time for cooking.

I love cooking. Did you know that I almost catered my own wedding? Yeah. I had to be talked out of that one. Plan a wedding in three months and cook all the food? Was I crazy? Probably wedding crazed anyway.

I’ve often thought of taking some cooking courses. Perhaps not a full culinary arts course like the one offered here: http://www.csca.edu/, but an advanced class or two would be fun.

I’ve always enjoyed making pastries and baking. Luckily I don’t eat all the food I cook though! I enjoy creating my own unique entrees too. I’ll look up a recipe for a complete meal, but then I’ll add some of my own ingredients or spices to give it a unique twist. I particularly like this grilled veggie recipe. Yum. Maybe we’ll have that tomorrow with some grilled skinless chicken breasts.

Do you enjoy cooking? Have you ever thought of taking a culinary arts course?

Time to cook

September 15, 2007 by Tricia

I’m starving.

With Chris away for the night I have to come up with a meal for one. Hmmm what should I have.

We’ve been eating a lot of baked skinless boneless chicken breasts lately – not every day, but several times a week.

Early this week I was getting a little tired of the baked version so I marinaded two chicken breasts in a honey mustard marinade after cutting the meat up into bit sized chunks. I think tossed the chicken in our Wok and stir fried the chicken until it was cooked.

Meanwhile I made a salad with mixed greens, fresh tomato and cucumber from the garden, and crumbled feta cheese. When the chicken was finished cooking I put it on top of the salad and we had a very filling chicken salad for dinner.

Perhaps I’ll make that again. I really enjoyed it the other night.

We’ll wait no longer!

Wordless Wednesday

No service!

There’s been a few times I’ve felt like doing this in a restaurant. Sometimes even other places of business too … Nothing like sitting there watching everyone else eat when you’re hungry and the waiter or waitresses are rushing by, but somehow continue to ignoring you.

We’ll be having leftovers tonight

September 7, 2007 by Tricia

I can’t believe how many times I’ve eaten food from a restaurant in the last seven days! Five times! Five I say. That’s a lot.

Of course that’s unusual for us. The only reason we weren’t having home cooked meals over the last week was due to our family reunion. We kept meeting up in restaurants – what can I say!

Then last night, well … it was my birthday. I didn’t want to cook, and as I said in an earlier post my husband is NOT a cook. As much as I’m sure he would have loved to cook us a nice meal it wouldn’t have been a good one. So we ordered out.

A few months ago my husband discovered a very nice Italian restaurant in the area. I’m not really big on pasta dishes, but I must say the two times we’ve ordered meals from this restaurant I’ve been very happy with my meal. So – guess what I had for dinner last night? Yep, a very nice pasta dinner from our newly discovered restaurant. I had fusilli with Chicken. They include grilled peppers and eggplant in the pasta and it compliments it nicely. Chris had Fettuccine Alfredo, his favorite pasta dish. I swear he could eat that every day. We each ordered a slice of chocolate cake for desert, but we were too full and didn’t end up eating desert. We didn’t even touch the fantastic salad we’d ordered either.

In fact, we didn’t even finish our Pasta dishes. Are serving sizes getting even larger? I think every single restaurant meal I was served over the last week was far too large. I can’t eat a lot of food at one time because of my Crohn’s, but when Chris sets aside food for later or to take home in a doggy bag you know the serving was too large. Oh well, we’ll have some delicious leftovers for dinner tonight.

Have you found that most restaurant servings are far too big? Perhaps that’s how they justify the price they are charging?
