Photos while driving

This Weeks Theme is Action

This photo was taken last Saturday as my husband and I drove to Ottawa. After we had stopped for a brief break at a popular coffee shop, Tim Hortons, in Napanee we got back onto the 401 highway. Within minutes my husband asked me, “what color is your sisters car again?” and I turned around to see my sister coming up along side of us and passing us. She hadn’t noticed us yet, but a few honks caught her attention and we were soon convoying to Ottawa.

As we turned off the Queensway in Ottawa, and headed for my brothers home, I turned to snap a photo of my sister in her car. Here she is making faces at us while we waited for the lights to change.

Yes that’s plastic reptiles – two lizards and a turtle – hanging out in my back window. I am a reptile lover ya know. All I need is a bobbly head iguana and I’m set.

So it continues

July 15, 2006 by Tricia

If you’ve come here for the Saturday Photo Hunt I’m sorry to say that I don’t have anything that really suits the theme of Doors … but if allowed this entry might work as it came through my DOOR early Tuesday morning:

IMGP2955

Found: Tuesday morning in our enclosed front porch – one pair of well used running shoes.

Lost: My husbands nice white running shoes that he usually uses for his work as a porter at the hospital.

Priceless: The look on my husbands face when he realized the shoes above were left as a replacement for his stolen shoes.

On Tuesday morning, as I was upstairs getting ready to go and see my family Doctor about my knee that I could still barely put any weight on, my husband came up the the stairs to talk to me.

“Baby, don’t get upset.” he said.

“Upset? About what?” I replied.

“I can’t find my shoes. You know the ones I wear to work?”

He’d worked on Monday and he was tired when he returned. Could he have put his shoes in the back porch? worn them downstairs to the basement when he got home? Nope, he looked everywhere. They were gone.

He proceeded to tell me “Someone must have come into our front porch in the night or early this morning and took my shoes.” Shaking his head at the thought.

“What do you mean someone came in and took your shoes?” I asked.

“Well, you see, they left their old huge dirty ones that they were wearing.” he replied.

I went downstairs to see the shoes, and there inside my front porch were the shoes pictured above. Well worn, very dirty, crushed heel area. Yuck. There were sitting as you see them in front of one of the chairs were have inside the porch. A pile of our other shoes were nearby.

The person, probably a homeless, or perhaps someone that was recently released from the hospital (as in one of the psych patients maybe), must have been wandering around on the street and for some reason decided to enter our enclosed front porch. They tried on all the running shoes that we have out there and left the remains in a pile. It must have seemed like a shoe store to the person. Lucky find for him, unlucky for my husband.

My husband I both wear the same size shoe. He’s a short and I’m tall and somehow we both pretty much have the same sized feet. How rare is that anyway? His feet are wider than mine though, so we don’t trade shoes very often. Actually he’s not really allowed to wear mine as he stretches them out. Besides going back to the whole cross dressing memories that I have of and ex I don’t really want to see Chris wearing my shoes, at least not my heels.

I’m counting this as one more unlucky thing that has happened to us this month. Could have been worse I suppose. Chris has had those shoes for over 6 months and they were starting to wear a little with all the walking he does for work anyway. Besides, if I remember correctly we got them at an manufacture outlet so the price was inexpensive too. Unfortunately he needs new shoes now. Anyone know of any deals in the Toronto area?

Now we are off to Ottawa. One of my Aunts is celebrating her 80th birthday and her family is throwing a surprise party for her. I haven’t been back to Ottawa, my home town, since finishing things up there after my mothers death in 2003. It might be a little bit of an emotional rollercoaster of a weekend.

The drive takes between 4 and 4.5 hours, depending on traffic and how fast we go. Unfortunately, with my knee, which happens to be a tiny bit better but still very sore and extremely swollen, our ride might take longer if it acts up and we end up having to stop a few times so I can stretch my legs.

The party is at 2 pm! It’s 7 a.m. now, so I guess we’d better get started. Oh we’re going through a heat wave here. It’s supposed to be 32 C (89.6 F) but with the humidty it will feel like 40 Celsius (104 F). Did I tell ya we DON’T have air-conditioning in our car? It broke last year and we didn’t fix it, well we tried but it didn’t work. So … it’s going to be a long hot sticky drive. We’ll do the same thing and experience the same conditions sometime tomorrow as we return home.

My Green Thumb Sunday post will be up sometime Sunday afternoon when I return!

Ice Cream Days and Multimedia Freebies

This weeks theme is Signs

icecreamdays

I think that’s a nice sentement, don’t you?

This photo was taken on Wednesday afternoon when my husband and I were finally about to go home after picking up the free item that I mentioned in my previous posts. We needed and wanted Ice cream. Yummmm this place is a small shop that makes it’s own ice cream. Order a cone with one scoop and they give you a gigantic scoop … really it could fill a whole bowl. Good prices too.

That’s the second time I’ve had ice cream this week. I think I’ve used up my summer quota already.

Now, on to the good stuff. Some of you have been waiting for me to tell you what techy item I got for free this week. Well, that picture was taken with it, and so was the latest photo on Breath of Life.

The Buzz creating company that contacted me gave me a Nokia 6682 cell phone on Wednesday.

It’s a multimedia smartphone. It came with several extras too- a 512 mb memory card (it had 64 mg already), a bluetooth wireless headset, and an extra set of headphones for listening to MP3’s. All in all, the phone and the extras are probably worth over $500. I can get organized on it, or view documents with the mini microsoft office software that’s on it (ie view excel, word and powerpoint docs), list things on the calendar or record my thoughts, control the phone with voice commands, play games, connect to the web – it’s has the Opera browser on it, make conference calls, and that’s only the start. I’m still exploring and discovering all the things the phone can do.

Best of all though, is that it has a 1.3 megapixel camera built in. Ok so 1.3 megapixels doesn’t compare to the latest digital cameras but I’ve found that it takes pretty good photos. I can also record up to an hour of video if I want to.

I actually already made some videos. Chris and I accidentally ended up on the Molson Indy race track as it was being created, when we were on our way to pick up the phone. That was kind of neat, so on our way back home with the new cell phone we decided to get on the track and make a video. It’s not bad and it was kind of fun to make. Really, how often does one get to drive on a formula one race track anyway?

Then we went to the beach and took about 60 pictures along the way. I guess it must have taken us about 3 hours to get home that day, but we had a lot of fun. You should see all the volley ball nets on the beach. There must be 200 of them all strung out in long rows of 10 or so. Here, I’ll show you:

couplehundredvolleyballnets

The only problem is that the video is in 3GP and to upload it to a place like youtube I need to create a file that is under 100k in AVI or MPEG format. If anyone could give me some suggestions for some conversion software I’d appreciate it.

Chris and I are going to a Party tonight. It’s out of town, in the fun city of Brantford. I’m being slightly sarcastic here. Just a little, uhm yeah. Anyway, the party should be a good one, and it will give me another opportunity to try out the phone and see how it works for party photos. Hmmm I wonder if I can take it in the hot tub with me? The house we are going to has a huge hot tub. It’s going to be fun. Oh, it’s also Chris’ birthday and the party is partly going to be a surprise for Chris and a surprise for his sister and brother-in-law who are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. I expect to have a hang over on Sunday.

We’re taking our Home Stay student with us too. She doesn’t want to stay alone in the house. I swear we take her everywhere with us, even the grocery store! Ahh. Next weekend we are going out of town again and she’s coming with us then too. It’s like we have a kid – one that wants to be with her parents. No really, I think it’s because we are always doing interesting things and we are kind of fun to be with- especially my husband Chris. He’s always fun.

I’ll leave you with the CN Tower rising above some Condos near Harbor Front:
