I love these Large purple clematis flowers

Clematis Jackmanii

IMG_4581

I think Clematis Jackmanii is probably one of the most popular Clematis plants. They are hardy, easy to grow and as you can see they produce lovely large purple flowers.

I grow several clematis, but this is my oldest and biggest. I grow it behind my largest rose, William Baffin. Each year I have to untangle it from the rose as it wants to grow on and through it, but I prefer the clematis to grow along the high wooden fence behind the rose. I stretch out it’s vines and it makes a nice leafy background along the top of the fence and when it blooms (two or three times a year) the fence is highlighted by it’s large purple flowers.

Toronto – My colorful city

This weeks Photohunt theme is colorful and this is the most colorful photo of my city, Toronto, that I’ve ever taken!

I took this photo last year, in early September while on a Toronto dinner boat cruise with my family. We were all gathered together for a week long reunion and this was one of the activities that we’d planned.

The photo is a little blurred because of the boats motion. The water was a little choppy that evening. I’d also only had my Canon SLR EOS 30D camera for a little under a month, not to mention the fact that I don’t take all that many night shots. It’s something I still have to perfect.

I like the way the lights of the CN Tower and the lights along the lakefront are reflected in the water of Lake Ontario.

Save me from the monster!

Wordless Wednesday

Ah! What the heck is that!

It looks like this puppy is afraid of the dinosaur image on the bag doesn’t it? I’m not surprised … the Dinosaur head is bigger than the dog!

I’ll be that puppy would like to do some DNA testing on that dinosaur to find out if the species was a herbivore or carnivore! Actually I’m not even sure that dog is a puppy. it looks like one, but it’s possible that it’s an adult small dog.

Gardening is so easy this year

I’m very happy with how most of my flowers and plants are doing this year. My plants all seem happy and healthy and with all the rain we’ve had this summer I’ve barely even had to water the garden or lawn. I just have to go out and tidy up the plants when they get unruly every now and then. This may not be a good year for doing summer things thanks to it being wetter than normal, but it’s a perfect year for the garden!

My roses are lovely and flowering much more than normal. This one is called Morden Sunrise:

And these are Liatris or as they are more commonly called “Gayfeather”:

If you have a garden or perhaps even a small flower bed do you think it’s doing better this year than it normally does?

The only real problem I’ve had with my roses is a little powdery mildew. It makes the roses look like they have dried acne medication on their leaves. It’s easyto treat though – just mix a teaspoon or so of baking soda with about a litre of water and spray it on the affected plant. Cures it fast!

This cat must be very tolerant!

Keep your enemies close

I’d bet that having mice crawling all over your head would be a little creepy … even more so if you are a cat who wants to eat the mice!

This cat must have a lot of patience and tolerance!
