Chris fell down and went boom

May 31, 2007 by Tricia

I’m usually the one in this household that has weird accidents.

Remember last March when I fell flat on my face and tore open my chin right to the bone and wrenched my jaw, or last July when I tripped on a weird curb and tore a ligament in my knee?

This morning Chris was leaving for work and he was fixing his lunch bag as he got to the end of our walkway. At the same time a female jogger was going by and she was looking at her runners watch to see what her pulse was and how many kilometers she’d run.

Well, as you can imagine, the jogger crashed into Chris as he turned from our walkway onto the sidewalk and he fell to the ground. On the way down his right shin hit the short wrought iron fencing that we have around our garden bed that is beside the walkway. The pointy top of the wrought iron fence, a Fleur de Lis, poked into the middle of his shin.

He apparently had a good dent and tear in his leg as a result! I was still in bed at the time and didn’t see the damage.

The jogger stopped and was quite apologetic for knocking him over. She said to him “You’d better go to the hospital!”, and Chris showed her his employee I.D. that was hanging from his neck and said “Well, I was on my way.”.

Chris came back in the house and cleaned up his wound, and then hobbled off to the hospital which is luckily only a few blocks from our home. Instead of reporting to the O.R. Recovery area where he works he went into the Emergency department and got stitches.

He’s been told to stay off work today and tomorrow. The ER doc that cared for him knows him quite well, and knows Chris is a hard worker who’s always on his feet. So he enforced the two days off rule with a note for the occupational health department.

Since he hit his leg hard and the wound was deep I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up with a bruised shin bone as well as bruised tissue around the wound. So I’m back to being a nurse today, reminding him to elevate his leg and giving him ice-packs to put on his boo-boo.

I just hope that no one else has fallen into the our wrought iron fence in the past. We aren’t aware of anyone hurting themselves in front of our house. Perhaps we should re-think our choice in garden bed fencing and get something with a smoother top edge.

My neglected Garden

Thirteen Things about My Garden

This is Thursday Thirteen #38

1…. I love my garden. It’s where I go to de-stress and or collect my thoughts.

2…. My garden is also where I get one of the best workouts! Cutting, bending, digging, squatting, standing up, bending down, amending soil, adding mulch, lifting heavy bags or shovel fulls of soil … for hours on end? Yeah, that’s a workout!

3…. I’m still not feeling well due to the Crohn’s so, while I say the garden is a workout, I haven’t gotten much of a workout lately as I’ve been ignoring the work that needs to be done in the garden.

4…. I still need to prune at least half of my roses. I have more than 60!

5…. I bought some veggie seedlings and annuals a week and a half ago and I still haven’t planted them.

6…. The cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuces, beets, carrots, beans, and annual flowers need to be planted soon!

7…. Once I’m done planting the new plants, and likely buying more since I only bought a few, I’ll have to get busy putting the red cedar mulch down.

8…. Ok, I told a fib a minute ago, I haven’t totally ignored the garden – I have been keeping an eye on it.

9…. Lately my visits to the garden my include my camera.

10…. Each time I go into the garden I must take at least 100 digital photos of the flowers that have been blooming. I’ve been showing off some of those flowers on this blog, my gardening blog and my photoblog.

11…. We live in a fairly small house, so we created our garden and use it as additional living space.

12…. By this I mean, we entertain our friends in the garden, we have barbeque’s and dinner parties, or just use that lovely space to relax. I even bring my laptop out to the garden at times and do some of my computer/internet work while in the garden.

13…. My favorite time in the garden is coming soon. The roses and other scented flowers will soon bloom and it’s almost intoxicating to be in the garden surrounded by so many beautiful scents all at once. I can’t wait.

Wow, I didn’t realize how long it’s been since I’ve done a Thursday Thirteen Post. It’s about time that I did one isn’t it?

Satin sheets and I don’t mix

May 30, 2007 by Tricia

The other day I was talking about our too small bedrooms and our old double bed that we used to use as our bed when we lived in our apartment. For some reason that made me think of the satin bed sheets that I still have for that bed.

I don’t know if you have, or if you’ve used satin bed sheets before, but they can make the act of getting into bed quite interesting, let alone doing anything else in bed!

The first time I ever used the satin sheets on the bed I think I made the mistake of also wearing a satin nightgown. Now I’m a big klutz so it should stand to reason that me, satin sheets and a satin nightgown were not going to mix well.

I think I probably bought them and put them on the bed to set up a romantic evening for Chris and I. I don’t remember all the details and some of them I won’t get into in this post, but I don’t think I have to tell you that my attempt to get into bed, freshly made with the new light pink satin sheets, in my satin night gown were something that could have come from a classic comedy.

I think I slide across the bed and fell off the other side on my first attempt to get into bed. When it came to the next attempt I believe I was a bit more careful and only slide to the middle of the bed. LOL I’m sure I came out of that experience with a few bruises.

After that I never combined two satins again!

A pretty annual flower

Wordless Wednesday

My neighbor asked me to photograph some of her flowers the other day and this was one of the ones that I choose to take a photo of.

This is a lovely orangey red annual Salvia. They come in many colors and are quite pretty when they are in full bloom like this one is.

I’ve got to plant some of my pots and baskets with annual flowers. I haven’t done that yet!

Need to get motivated? Look into this motivational program

May 30, 2007 by Tricia

If you’re stuck in a going no where job or find that you lack the motivation to achieve your goals you might be interested in the motivational program at Jlmandassociates.com.

The site says that the program is guaranteed to help you achieve both business and personal success. From what I’ve read it’s quite different than many of the other motivational programs that you see on the internet.

Why? Well, it seems that when you sign up for the Mastering Success program you’ll actually have a personal coach that you can talk to on the phone or by other means who will literally coach you along the way. You’ll be offered career, business and personal coaching or which ever one of those types of coaching you are most interested in.

Sign up for a free consultation now if you are interested. The jlmandassociates.com states that the consultation is risk free and your personal information is never shared.
