Our renovations are coming along nicely

June 2, 2012 by Tricia

We’re still busy trying to finish our renovations.

I think it’s going to be a while before we have everything done. The living room dining room is partial done. The wall between the upper and lower staircases in the living room is finally done and we have all the electrical wiring installed. We just have to mud it and then paint the wall and the inner staircase wall. I also want to pick out some new switchplates for the living room and dining room. Maybe something a little less plain or a little nicer than the usual bland switchplates sold in hardware stores.

The next part of our reno is doing all of the molding in the living room dining room and finally getting that tin ceiling up. Then it’s on to other areas of the house that need fixing. The list is getting longer but the house will be looking very nice soon.

Making some rings for my friends

June 2, 2012 by Tricia

Some friends of mine are getting married next year and since they know that I used to be a jeweler they’ve been asking for my help in designing their wedding bands. I helped them with their engagement ring a few months ago or rather I helped him design the ring and then figure out when to pop the question.

I got them a great deal on the diamond and the engagement ring was made of platinum so now they want their wedding bands to also be platinum. I can continue to design their rings and get them made for them but just for some ideas I suggested that my friends take a look at the platinum rings for men at Joy Jewelers for some design ideas. It sounds like they like the rings on the site so we’ll see what happens. Hey … maybe I just lost myself a sale. LOL

I’m actually glad that people don’t ask me to help them with jewelery as often as they used to. For a few years after I got out of the jewelery trade it seemed like I might as well be back in the business with all the requests I was getting.

Shooting in the Eatons Center Mall!

June 2, 2012 by Tricia

I’ve been watching the news for the last hour or so because there was a shooting inside the Eatons Center Mall here in Toronto. It happened at approximately 6:30 pm in the North Food Court and at this time it looks like perhaps three people have been shot.

It looks just crazy downtown. Everyone has been evacuated from the mall but there were large crowds outside everywhere and of course the media started closing in too. They still don’t know if the shooter is still inside the mall or if he’s in the crowd that exited the mall.

I’ve lived in Toronto for over 25 years and I’ve never seen anything like this. Oh yes I have – on an episode of Flashpoint, but that wasn’t real!

When I first moved to Toronto I worked in the jewelery trade – which for the most part is located right across from the mall, so this area feels very familiar to me. Almost like a home base since that’s where my business was and since my sister still has her business across from the mall.

Now the news is saying that they have an unofficial source that says there might be up to 6 victims. I hope that’s wrong!

The sound of music

June 2, 2012 by Tricia

My husbands been practicing a particular song on his guitar almost daily in the last few weeks. He’s even bee bringing his guitar to work with him to play on his breaks and to practice with a few other people.

Why you ask? Well … Next Monday he’s playing at a special retirement dinner for the chief of surgery at our hospital. The doctor herself is going to be playing an instrument and singing and there are a few other people playing instruments and singing as well. I guess they’ve formed a “medical” band.

Chris always talks about going and playing in bars or at free Mike nights but he never seems to do that, however, he does end up playing at hospital related events every couple of months. It could be a talent show or the annual Christmas party or some special event – everyone seems to know and like Chris’ music so they ask him to play.

Since he’s been practicing so much at home I was thinking of getting him some nice headphones so that he can listen to the music as he plays even better. Headphones that will tune out outside noise. So I went searching and I found some Sennheiser studio headphones for sale so I might get him a pair of those. I’m sure he’ll like that.

I wonder what the next music project will be once this one is done?

Always – A Better Idea

May 9, 2012 by Tricia

I think just about every woman has an embarrassing story to tell regarding that oh so special time of the month that we all love so much. It can be trial and error finding the right products to use in order to feel secure, comfortable and have some peace of mind.

P&G has been running some commercials for their new Always Pads and they poke fun at some very real problems that women have had with other pad products. Have a look at the information below and see if you’ve ever experienced any of the complaints they’ve listed such as having to wear granny pants or the robot walk because you’re afraid to walk normally.

Stop the Padness with Always

Can you relate to some of these experiences? I’ll bet you can even add some of your own! Feel free to contribute your stories in the comment section.
