Get 25 percent off a dozen roses

January 23, 2008 by Tricia

If you’ve only read my blog for a couple of weeks you’ll already know that I love roses. I often post photos of the roses I grow in my garden or talk about my garden in some way. Trouble is, I live in a cold climate so I only get to enjoy my roses during the warm months of the year.

I start jonesing for some pretty flowers and color by this time every year. I bet that a lot of women do! Good thing Valentines day will be here soon.

Are you looking forward to Valentines Day? Have you made any special plans to treat the one you love? A dozen roses and a romantic dinner are the two basic ingredients for a lovely Valentine’s day celebration.

Of course romance, roses and romantic dinners need not only be for Valentines. I think we should treat our loved ones to special days all year round.

If you’re planning on giving flowers to your special someone on Valentines you might want to visit 1800flowers.com. I just noticed that they have a special on their bouquets of a dozen roses. They are offering 25% off. With that discount you might want to send a dozen roses to a good friend, your mother or other family members. You can order red, peach, pink, yellow or white roses.

While you are visiting the site you might want to take a look at their flower arrangements, flower and or plant baskets, plants and gift baskets. Their food gift baskets sound fantastic. They have everything from fruit baskets to organic food baskets, gourmet food baskets, cakes, cookies, chocolate and candy, wine and cheese baskets. They sound yummy! Check it out.

Lego my skull!

Lego my skull!

Isn’t it amazing all the things that you can do with Lego these days?

I haven’t looked at a set of Lego’s in ages, but I take it that they make them in a lot more shapes and sizes than they did when I was a kid. Some of them must be flexible too.

Have you ever made any interesting creations with Lego?

Our neighbors are trying to sell their house in January – Good Luck!

January 23, 2008 by Tricia

Well our neighbors home is up for sale again! They must really want to move. Who puts their house up for sale in January the coldest month of the year here in Toronto?

Once they took their for sale sign down and said they were getting some repairs done on the house (changing from oil to gas heating, new furnace and who knows what else) I didn’t really expect to see a for sale sign go up before March or April.

I think in Northern climates most people who are thinking of selling their homes try to put it up for sale in the early Spring. I’ve never sold a home, but that’s certainly the time of year that I went looking to buy a house.

In my personal experience that’s a good time to look for a new home. The snow is melting or melted so you can see the whole house – foundation and all. I mean, you want to be able to see if there are any problems right? Sure you can get an inspection done, but everything’s easier when you can actually visualize the whole house and structure. The yards also look better too which makes the houses more appealing.

Also, when I went searching for a home to buy I saw probably close to 50 homes. The majority had leaky basements. How do I know? Well it rains quite a bit in the spring and a lot of the houses literally had puddles of water in the basement. Some had several inches of water. In fact, I think this house was the only one with a dry basement. I knew right away that the foundation was probably in great shape! That’s something that you wouldn’t be able to tell very easily when buying a house in the dead of winter!

As far as I’m concerned they might as well have a sign on their lawn saying Tennessee land for sale for all the good putting their house up for sale now will do them. I wish them luck, I really do … but their house still needs a lot of work. They haven’t modernized it at all. Perhaps they are thinking a desperate home buyer will come along.

We finally got some more snow

January 23, 2008 by Tricia

Well we got some more snow yesterday. One of my regular readers had comments on one of my weekend posts that it looked like we had no snow. We didn’t! It was freezing cold here for the last week and there wasn’t a flake of snow on the ground.

Those of you who don’t garden or don’t experience severe cold weather may not realize this, but when it’s really cold outside the snow helps to insulate and protect the plants in our yards. When there’s no snow the plants are exposed to all of the elements and it’s not a surprise when you end up losing a few plants in the spring as a result. So I’m happy that it snowed!

Our puppy is happy that it snowed too. She just loves to jump around in the snow and even roll in it. I have a feeling she’d be happy if there was snow outside all year round! I’ll take that as a sign that she’ll probably also enjoy the beach and frolicking in the water come summer.

You know what’s really weird? Over the weekend we went to Walmart to get a few things and on probably the coldest day of the year so far we saw a man walking around with a set of Cleveland golf clubs. I can’t remember where I saw the man – perhaps it was outside one of the malls we went to … but it sure was strange seeing someone walking around with a big golf club bag when it was so very cold outside.

If you’re looking for a bathroom vanity your search is over

January 20, 2008 by Tricia

What a coincidence. I made a post earlier this evening saying that Chris and I had sat down earlier today to talk about how we were going to finish our current renovation project and to talk about renovations that we’d like to do in the future and then I come across a website with a great selection of bathroom vanities. Perhaps we will have a beautiful bathroom in our basement one day.

The website is called Premiere Vanities and they carry a wide selection of single bathroom vanities and double bathroom vanities, as well as linen cabinets.

As I said earlier, our basement is unfinished except for having a roughed in basic bathroom and laundry area. The only other bathroom we have in our house is upstairs and it’s a very tiny bathroom. It would be a major undertaking to make our upstairs bathroom larger, but we might do that at some point. So if we want to have a really nice bathroom – a good sized one – it will have to be the basement bathroom.

We also don’t think we’ll be in this house forever and with that in mind finishing our current renovation projects and having two very nice bathrooms in the house will make our home more attractive to potential buyers.

Since our upstairs bathroom is tiny we need to have a small sink area.

Actually the vanity has to be small simply because the plumbing is located just inside the door, and then the toilet is right behind the sink at the back wall of the bathroom. The bathtub/shower runs alongside the opposite wall from the vanity and toilet with only about a foot and a half of space in between. So we have just enough room to swing the door open and then a narrow space to walk between the vanity and the tub to get to the toilet. The entire bathroom is perhaps 9 feet long by 5 or 6 feet wide. It’s small!

g-208_mahagony_300_300.jpg A wall mounted basin vanity would be perfect. The vanity to the right is made of mahogany and it’s has a sleek modern design. Not only that – it’s quite small. It’s only 18 7/8″w x 14 5/8″d in size and that would be perfect for our tiny upstairs bathroom.

vanity.jpg Another single vanity that would be great for a small bathroom is this Birch Wall Mount Vanity with Cherry Finish. It’s dimensions are larger at 35.5″w x 19.75″d x 15″h but since it’s wall mounted it would give the illusion of not taking up much space and would help make a small bathroom look larger.

We can make our basement bathroom quite large if we want to and since it could very well turn into our main bathroom it’s possible that we’d want to put in a double vanity.

Perhaps one like this beautiful Double Porcelain Sink Vanity:

There are just so many vanities to choose from! As you can see I’m partial to modern and basin style vanities. However, if you happen to be looking for a bathroom vanity to either spruce up the look of your current bathroom or perhaps you are totally renovating your bathroom and you’d like to take a look at the selection at Premiere Vanities you’ll be pleased to discover that they have vanities to suit just about any decor. They have wood, antique, contemporary and traditional bathroom vanities.

Naturally before I got too excited about a particular vanity I checked to see if Premiere Vanities shipped to Canada and it appears that they do. I think it’s safe to say that they probably have clients throughout the USA and Canada.

I think I’ll be spending some time taking a good look at their selection of vanities and linen cabinets. Feel free to visit PremiereVanities.com yourself if you’re in the market for a new bathroom vanity.
