There’s too much money flying out of our pockets lately!

December 6, 2007 by Tricia

I can’t believe how much money we’re spending on things lately!

Of course buying a puppy and all the items necessary to make her comfortable in our home was quite a hit to the wallet. So were her unexpected extra vet bills! She’s been to the vet twice and she’s only been with us 14 days! Remember she had a bacterial infection so she needed antibiotics and medications to settle her tummy?

Well we went to the vet on Tuesday evening for a check up and she got her second set of vaccination shots. Her stool was also checked again and this time the vet discovered Round worms! So she’s on more meds. She also has a slight infection in her left eye so we have to put ointment in her eyes twice a day.

I think the vet bills have come to about $600 so far.

Then, on Tuesday when Chris was driving to the other side of town to pick up the replacement light we needed for our DLP TV (that was $300) the drivers side window’s motor failed and the window was stuck half open.

Our cars been at the garage since Wednesday morning. They had to order a new motor for the window and that costs $400.

This is nuts!

We’ve also still got to buy a number of gifts for Christmas and then my niece, who’s having a baby in February, will be having a baby shower in the first week of January.

Ah the bills! The bills!

Putting aside my hopes of travel

December 6, 2007 by Tricia

I was hoping now that I got Chris to go on a trip, and since he did ok with flying this time, that we’d be able to start traveling more.

Then we got a puppy.

I can’t seem to get much of anything done now that we have this energetic ball of fur running around!

I’m so tired and my Crohns is starting to act up bad – probably from the lack of sleep and increased activity.

Well, I guess we can still go on trips to places that we can drive to at least.

I had been hoping to get out to Vancouver sometime in the New Year – perhaps in the Spring or early Summer, but driving there takes four or five days so we’d have to take at least three weeks to make a proper trip of it. Might as well plan on going to one of those Hawaii bed and breakfast. It’s just not going to happen right now.

The puppy won’t even be a year old until the end of August and that seems like forever to me right now. The way she chews things and goes into what I call parana mode (all mouth!) I don’t think we’d even bother to ask any of our friends to look after her until she calms down some.

Do I sound like a new mom or what?

Couldn’t sleep all night

November 29, 2007 by Tricia

Oh my gosh I’m really in a fog today. I couldn’t get to sleep last night and of course the dog needed to be cared for in the early morning so I didn’t manage to get any sleep until this afternoon.

Now I’m up and groggy. I hate this feeling. I’m so overtired from the week that I’ve had that I really didn’t need to have a night and day with virtually no sleep!

Chris is working until 8 pm today and when he gets home I think I might just crash!

In a fog

November 29, 2007 by Tricia

I think I’ve got a cold.

When we first got our dog, like almost immediately, my nose stuffed up and I started having a lot of sneezing fits. I don’t know how many tissues I’ve gone through over the last five days but it must be close to a box full by now.

At first I thought it was because our pup smelled like the pine shavings she’d been kept on in the barn where she was raised, but I gave her a bath on Saturday and my nose continued to be irritated and well runny.

Then I worried that it was allergies. I am allergic to animals with fur, but I usually get a little wheezy. So far no wheezing, but there’s the troubling sniffles.

I’ve now come to think that it might be a cold because my sniffles were a lot better yesterday. As I’ve mentioned a few times in my recent posts I’ve been really tired this week. I’ve been blaming it on the puppy, but I think it might be because I’ve also been fighting a virus.

Speaking of tired – I’ve been walking around like I’m in a fog. I think Chris is over tired too. We’ll go into a store and just mill around instead of heading directly to whatever we went to the store to get. We’re also forgetting what we went to the store in the first place for too. I mean, we’ve needed a cordless phone battery for a while now and each time we go to the store we totally forget to even look for one!

I’ve been so tired that I’ve even been forgetting to take my Crohn’s meds and pain meds!

Do you ever get that way when you’re tired? You have to do things – work, go shopping, care for children or whatever – but you’re so tired that you can’t really think straight? That’s the way I’ve been all week.

I miss my job

November 22, 2007 by Tricia

When Chris came home from work the other day he told me about all the changes to the ER.

I’m an ER nurse and I’ve been off sick from the department for close to two years. Obviously it’s been some time since I even went in to visit my old co-workers. When I was hospitalized two weeks ago it was in one of our downtown hospitals … maybe I should have gone to our ER instead.

They’ve been renovating the space and expanding! It looks like emerg is going to double in size and that’s a good thing. Our ER is said to be the second busiest in Canada. Hopefully they hire an adequate amount of staff to manage the new areas. Even though the ER probably always had the most staff on during a shift out of any other hospital department with the amount of patients coming through the doors it almost always felt like we were understaffed.

What they really need there is better time and employee management – starting with the admins! Maybe a business performance management system needs to be installed as well along with all the other upgrades.

I really missed being there as Chris told me about all the changes. I truly loved being an ER nurse and I miss my job. If this darn Crohn’s would just settle down I could go back.
