I just bought a Wii Fit on eBay!

January 12, 2009 by Tricia

I just made my first ever eBay purchase! Yep, I won the bid, waited ’till the last minute to make a bid too. I bought a brand new, never been opened Wii Fit!

I’ve been thinking about getting a Wii Fit for a while. I had even joined some contests that a few bloggers did in late November, early December in an attempt to win a Wii Fit, but luck wasn’t with me.

Actually when I entered the other bloggers contests that was the first time my husband learned of my desire to get a Wii Fit. Of course he wished me luck because of course if I won one it wouldn’t have cost us a cent.

I didn’t mention Wii Fit again to my husband until yesterday when we were out shopping at Costco (that’s like Sam’s Club) and grocery shopping. He knows that I’ve been looking for a way to get more active, however, ever since I was diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency I’ve been a little worried about slipping on ice outside (in case my bones are weak), so until I find out exactly what my health status is – ie how low my vitamin D really is and if it’s affected my bones, I’m not about to start jogging outside or doing anything that might make me fall and break a bone. So safe exercise indoors is looking better and better, for now anyway.

So while we were out shopping I mentioned to him again that I’d like to get a Wii Fit and that I’d looked online at Best Buy and the Future Shop, but they were sold out (thanks to Boxing week and New Year’s sales). He was agreeable to us getting a Wii, he almost never says no to me, so we did go to Best Buy just to see if they had any in stock, but as I suspected they didn’t.

Last night I thought about looking on eBay, but I didn’t get around to it until today when my brother sent a link to some dog boots that were on sale on eBay … so of course while I was on the site I did a search for Wii Fit and I found one that was still at a decent price and the auction was about to end. By about to end I mean it only had about 3 and a half minutes left! So I had a very quick discussion with Chris and placed a bid and Ta Da! I won!

We don’t have much extra money right now, so this is a splurge that I’d better use! However I’m becoming less fit by the day so I need to start doing something to get into better shape, so I think this was a good purchase.

The eBay seller is in Canada as well so I won’t have to pay duty or any other fees when it arrives. Now I just have to sit back and see just how fast Canada Posts expedited Parcel delivery really is. I was told it would be 1 to 7 days, and considering the seller is on the East Coast I expect it will be at least two or three days before I get my Wii Fit. Surely it will be here by Friday (crossing fingers, toes, legs, arms … getting harder to type!).

So for those of you who have used Wii Fit …

  1. Which games are the most fun? Am I going to be happy with the Wii Fit?
  2. Where should I start as a beginner – Yoga? Pilates? or something else?
  3. Any tips for a new Wii Fit user?
  4. Are there any “must have” accessories that I should consider getting?

I’m certain that using the Wii Fit will drive my dog nuts for the first while. She’ll want to play when I’m trying to use it. Maybe I’ll have to keep her in her crate?

Anyway .. any tips from those who have or who have used a Wii Fit would be helpful! I’m so excited that I won my bid and can’t wait for it to get here!

Ok stupid question … do I need the Wii console to use Wii Fit? If so I’m screwed ’cause we don’t have Wii.

Why am I so tired this week?

January 3, 2009 by Tricia

I don’t know why, but all week I’ve just been exhausted. I swear I could sleep day and night. Maybe I’m still recovering from having a houseful of guests last weekend or maybe I’m tired because my Crohn’s has been flaring continuously without any sign of getting better.

I also started taking high doses of Vitamin D this week after being diagnosed with very low Vitamin D levels. I wonder if that can make you more tired than usual? I don’t think it should, but stranger things have happened. LOL

In other news … our neighbors house has finally been rented and the new people moved in today. Actually they’ve been moving in slowly all week, but today they had a moving van and they are here for their first overnight stay.

I’m not sure that I’m going to like these new people. So far they seem like real duds. Maybe they should have looked into Wilmington NC real estate instead of moving in beside me!

They just don’t seem there when you talk to them. Oh and get this. We have a shared driveway, but it’s so tiny that you can only park one car in the drive at a time … so the guy comes up to us and says that he’s just going to park at the end of the driveway (on the street) from now on. Uhm … isn’t it illegal to block a driveway?

Anyway I guess time will tell if the new people will turn out to be Ok neighbors or big pains in the butt. My guess is that I won’t be out in my garden much this summer.

Happy New Year to all!

December 31, 2008 by Tricia

Chris and I are having a cozy night at home this New Years eve. It’s much too cold (-22 C (-7.6 F)) to go down to Nathan Philips Square to watch the City TV New Years show and well … going out to a bar to celebrate is much too expensive.

Besides, our Toronto live show always sucks. Sorry … but it does. No big name entertainers, only up and coming possible future stars.

So we’re cuddled up on the couch with our dog Midnight and we’re watching the Niagara Falls (Ontario, Canada) celebration on TV. Roger Hodgson, one of the co-founders of Supertramp, is headlining the Niagara Falls show and he’s amazing.

I saw SuperTramp in concert on their last official tour of the original band. I believe it was in 1983. Yes, I know like all big bands that state “this is our final tour” they have come back again a few times, but never with all the original band members (I believe).

Supertramp has always been one of my favorite bands. Yes, I love classic rock (and indie, punk, techno – but classic rock will always be my favorite). Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cheap Trick and similar bands along with Supertramp are in my top ten list.

So far I’ve heard Roger Hodgson sing The Logical Song, Give a Little Bit, Dreamer, School, and Take the Long Way Home – pretty much the top SuperTramp hits.

I’ve watched the Niagara Falls New Years show in the past and their performers (always big names) usually play until 12:30 so if you can get E or a CJOH station tune in. It’s a good show! kim Mitchell (Max Webster) is also playing. Maybe one year Chris and I will go to Niagara Falls for New Years and see their show.

Now as for the new year? I don’t really make New Years Resolutions. If I do at all it’s to be healthier in the new year than the year past. So far that hasn’t happened for me. I just keep getting sicker. But hey … I can hope, can’t I?

Actually I do have a little more hope for health in 2009.

A few days ago I got a call from my doctors office telling me that my Vitamin D levels were really low. That’s bad news but it gives me some hope. Now that might explain all my muscle stiffness and bone pain (and maybe my increasing back pain) and trouble sleeping over the last year or so. (Yeah, I don’t think being deficient in vitamin D is new, just newly discovered) So maybe now that I’m taking a heavy duty dose of Vitamin D I’ll start feeling a little better. Honestly if I could feel 25% better it would be wonderful, 50% better would be almost miraculous. I don’t dare hope for more than that, but it would be nice.

Whatever you are doing this evening – enjoying time with friends and family, attending a New years party or event or just staying in like my husband and I, I do hope that you are having a wonderful New years eve and I wish you all the best in the New Year.

Thank you for being loyal readers. You have no idea how much I appreciate your visits and comments. Happy New Year.

Plump full lips? Fail

December 24, 2008 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Lip plumping gone too far …

00035387

I think this is a case of too much Restyline! I wonder if the intention was to look like a clown?

I’m a nurse and for a short while I worked for a plastic surgeon (training as an ER nurse at the same time which amounted to working 7 days a week for 8 months!).

Plumping up the lips was just starting to be a craze at the time so I saw a fair amount of women coming in regularly for Restyline injections. Thankfully the doctor I worked with never over did the plumping, but immediately after the injections some of the women did look a little like this.

What’s the best electric shaver for men?

December 22, 2008 by Tricia

My husband has wanted a decent electric shaver for years. He had one that he was using for oh, about the last decade, but it finally broke sometime over the summer. Since then he’s just been using a razor to shave.

The trouble is my husband could grow a beard in about two days, which of course means he could easily shave twice a day if he really wanted a smooth clean shaven look all the time.

I know it’s a little late, but I think that I might try to get him an electric shaver for Christmas. If I don’t manage to get one for him before Christmas I could always take advantage of boxing day sales or a New Year’s sale I suppose.

The problem? I have absolutely no idea which electric shaver he’d like best. I’d like to get him a well made electric shaver that will last for years.

Do any of my male readers or their spouses have any suggestions? Which brand and or model is best?

I spent a bit of time today looking at electric shavers on the internet and the brands I’m most familiar with are Braun and Phillips. The Philips Norelco 1060 arcitec Mens Shaver and Accessory Kit caught my eye. If my husband ever decides to grow his goatee back he can use the tube trimmer to shape it.

Anyone use the Philips Norelco shaver? I’d love to hear your opinion of it or any other brands. Perhaps with your help I can get my husband a Christmas gift that he really wants.
