So dizzy and I’m not even blonde!

July 15, 2010 by Tricia

I’ve had a rough week.

I haven’t been feeling all that well. For once it doesn’t seem to be my Crohn’s that’s acting up … it’s something else.

I’ve been dizzy. Crazy dizzy … room spinning dizzy … fall over dizzy.

Today isn’t too bad, but the last two days were terrible. I was dizzy even when I was lying down and worse when I was standing.

My doctor thinks it’s another migraine side effect. I seem to get really dizzy hours or even for a few days before a bad migraine hits.

I’ve never in my life been this dizzy … well with the exception of the few times I had way too much to drink and couldn’t shut my eyes when I tried to sleep or else the room would spin even faster. LOL (Ever tried falling asleep with your eyes open – not easy!)

I’d rather have been doing searches for discount diet pills for the last two days than even spend one more hour with this extreme dizziness.

A week from tomorrow I’ll be in the hospital having an MRI (actually two different head MRI’s apparently) so I guess I’ll find out soon enough if anything serious is going on. I’m keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed that it’s just migraines even though that diagnoses will be bad enough as my migraines and side effects like squiggly visual auras have been quite bad lately.

Oh and at the end of June I wrote a post about going to the hospital for a bunch of xrays and ultrasounds? Well I’ve been called back in to have another mammogram and ultrasound of my left breast … God I hope they didn’t find anything. Or rather I hope that this second round of tests proves that there’s nothing there that shouldn’t be there. If there is … well there’s a good chance it’s benign. I seem to grow tumors (breast, thyroid and one weird one in my thigh) and they’ve all been either pre-cancerous or benign … so if there is anything in my left breast lets hope it’s harmless.

Maintaining clear skin in the summer is harder for me

July 15, 2010 by Tricia

I’m finding that skin care in the summer time is a lot harder for me than it is in the winter.

In the winter all I need to do is moisturize regularly and my skin seems to stay fairly clear and blemish free.

The summer is a different story. You see I seem to react to my own sweat. Yeah – really! I once had a doctor tell me that she thought I was allergic to my own sweat.

While I don’t know if it’s true or not that I’m allergic to my own sweat, I do know that if I go outside when it’s warm or very hot and I start to sweat I’ll have a mini break out in some of the areas that sweat. For example if I’m outside working in my garden, pulling weeds or pruning roses and I’m out there long enough to start sweating ie sweat on my face etc. I’ll often have a pimple or two on my face a day or two later.

I don’t think it’s true adult acne as it mostly only happens if I’ve been sweating. It also doesn’t matter if I come inside and wash my face and have a shower right away either, I’ll still have a mini break out.

I guess I’m glad that I don’t get covered in blemishes, but it’s a pain in the butt. The best way for me to control these outbreaks is to try not to sweat and as you know that’s almost impossible in the summer without staying indoors in an air conditioned house all the time.

Does this affect anyone else? Do you break out more when you’ve been sweating?

My eczema is getting worse

July 1, 2010 by Tricia

I think something is setting off my eczema lately. I have this spot on the top of my right wrist and it’s getting worse.

I’ve had the spot on my wrist for about 15 years. Yeah – it just won’t go away at all.

It’s been getting bigger lately though. It’s also ugly. It’s a big purplish dry area of skin.

I’ve been out in the sun a lot lately … maybe sun exposure makes eczema worse?

Anyway, I just bought this eczema herbal treatment that I’m going to try. Hopefully it makes it go away or at least look a little better than it does right now. That would be nice.

Anyone else have eczema? Do you have any spots in a visible area? How do you treat yours?

Finished a bunch of tests at the hospital

July 1, 2010 by Tricia

It took me until today to recover from a battery of tests that I had done at the hospital on Tuesday.

Not that the medical tests that I had done were all that hard … it was just getting up super early that did me in! I think I only had three hours sleep that night and then I had to get up a lot earlier than I normally do. So I was wiped out all day and as I said it took me until today to catch up.

On Tuesday I had two ultrasounds. One pelvic – I have endometriosis so my doctor wanted to check on things, and the other was of my thyroid to check on that large tumor that I discovered last year. Oh and I was dehydrated because it was so hot here in Toronto on Monday so even though I drank 6 large glasses of water when I got up on Tuesday morning my bladder still wasn’t full enough for the pelvic ultrasound. Lovely.

Once those two tests were done I had to get a mammogram. A short walk down the hall from ultrasound and I was getting changed into yet another gown. The last time I had a mammogram I was in my twenties. I had discovered a lump and was sent for tests. Naturally, since I seem to have an uncanny ability to grow tumors they did find a growth in my breast. Luckily it was benign. I had a lumpectomy and I’ve been fine since then. However since I hadn’t had this lovely test for years my doctor wanted it done. So a few squishes and squashes later and I was done.

My last test, in the xray department, was for orbits. I’m having an MRI of my head near the end of July and since I was a jeweler many years ago who used to get gold in her eyes I had to get my eyes xrayed just to make sure that I didn’t still have some gold slivers in my eyes. Uh huh.

Of course, since I work at the hospital, I new all three of the women who did my tests. It’s kind of embarrassing when you know the people who are doing these kinds of tests on you. Oh and when they found out how many tests I was having done at once they looked at me like I had malignant Mesothelioma or something. LOL

Anyway … the tests are over and I’m hoping that I don’t hear anything bad about any of the tests. Well I’m pretty sure I’ll hear something about the thyroid ultrasound. I’m supposed to be having the tumor biopsied every 6 months, but I haven’t had a biopsy for more than a year. Oops!

A headache that just won’t go away

June 5, 2010 by Tricia

I think it’s a good thing that it was rainy this week. It forced me to take it easy and stay out of the garden which in turn allowed me not to overwork my poor aching back.

You might remember that I wrote earlier this week that I canceled my visit to Google Canada’s offices on Wednesday because my back was in terrible shape. I’m still terribly disappointed about that. At least the person that was organizing the meeting wrote back to me and told me that they would keep me in mind if they had any other meetings with Canadian Adsense publishers in the future.

Unfortunately I’ve also had a headache/ migraine that just won’t go away. It started on the evening of Wednesday May 26th and I still have it – 11 days later! Believe me when I say I’d rather have been doing research on the best acne treatments over the last week and a half than have this migraine.

My head is pounding and the pain in my head keeps moving. At first it was behind my right eye and on the right side of my head. Then it moved to the top middle of my head and then a while after that my left side got a turn. Now for the last three days or so the pains been mostly in the back of my head and upper neck although my right eye has some pain too.

I’ve also had those weird vision problems again too. Not the squiggly lines, but blurry or blind spots that sometimes last for hours. I have “weird” vision right now – a little wavy but more blurred than anything. I guess these are auras too, but it’s been happening while I’ve been having this headache / migraine. Visual headaches usually have no pain when they are occurring and then an hour or more later the headache starts.

Well maybe I’ll find out what’s going on in July when I’m set to have an MRI of my head. Hopefully it really is just migraines.

I’m a little worried though because the neurologist said that since my headache / migraine pattern has changed so drastically recently – along with the aural migraines that I could be having small strokes. He also wrote a letter to my pain doctor and said the same thing but in more detail. I didn’t read the letter but when my pain doctor told me what he’d written I realized that he really thought I might be having small strokes or TIA’s and hadn’t just been mentioning it as a possibility.

I guess that’s made me a little more nervous when I get a migraine or when the visual symptoms start up … and of course stress doesn’t help alleviate a headache – does it? I suspect that when I do have my MRI my brain will be as normal looking as it’s ever been … but I’m still glad that I’m having the test soon – just to be sure.
