Greek Food

February 22, 2007 by Tricia

Since I’ve been having kind of a bad week Chris and I decided to order some take out food from one of our favorite restaurants. We haven’t order from that restaurant for a long time, or treated ourselves to much take out since we are trying to watch our money, so it was quite special.

We ordered the vegetarian Mousaka, Spanakopita, Saganaki, and lamb chops. The two meals came with their yummy Greek potatoes and rice, and a nice tossed salad.

Mousaka is similar in some ways to Sheppard’s pie. The regular version has a ground meat at the bottom. Since it’s Greek food I doubt that it’s hamburger. It’s probably ground lamb or pork. The top is mashed potato. The vegetarian version is what we ordered and the bottom is made up of grilled veggies- mostly eggplant.

Spanakopita – is Filo (light flaky pastry) wrapped spinach and cheese.

Saganaki – is a type of goat cheese that is very lightly breaded with cornmeal and then they pour either Vodka or Ouzo on it and set it on fire – lightly toasting it. Yum.

Right, so it probably wasn’t the healthiest meal for me to have. Especially since I seem to have problems with corn meal. I had awful pain after eating dinner for hours and hours, but you know what? I loved the taste of it and that’s all that counts. I have to treat myself occasionally even if I have to pay for it.

If you’re curious and you’d like to see what food we ate, you can visit the Omonia Restaurant and look at their menu. I’ve eaten in the restaurant twice, but for some reason I enjoy their food better as take out.

What do you know- I checked to see if I spelled the names of the various foods we ate properly and I did spell all of our menu items correctly. This Greek neighborhood must be growing on me.

What are Pointless Directives?

February 22, 2007 by Tricia

I’m beginning to get a very good idea what Pointless Directives are after reading Fabs newest blog. Yes it’s called Pointless Directives and it’s … well … full of directives that are kind of strange.

You really have to read a few posts to understand what I mean.

Fab is a humorous guy and his posts will make you giggle. At the end of his Directive posts you’ll find a directive – some silly little thing that you should do that’s tied into whatever the topic of the post was about. He often tells his readers to do some pretty strange things.

If you like a good laugh head on over to Pointless Directives.

Stuck in the middle

Wordless Wednesday

I feel kind of how this poor car looks!

I wonder how the car managed to get squished between these two buses? That’s a pretty strange kind of accident to have isn’t it?

Have any of you been in a strange accident? Well not you I hope, but maybe your vehicle?

Will Meridith on Greys Anatomy die?

February 19, 2007 by Tricia

Wasn’t that a great episode of Grey’s Anatomy last Thursday? I can’t wait to see the third part of their little series of episodes.

Ok, so how many of you that watched last weeks show and think that Meridith is going to die? It’s one thing after another on that show isn’t it?

Personally I don’t think she’ll die.

You see I’m a nurse. Beginning with last weeks episode when she fell into the water I had a feeling that she’d end up drowning. However it’s winter time on the show and the water is cold which means that she became hypothermic in the water.

Evidence of this is of course when they were arriving her they first said her body temperature was only 80 F, and then it reached 81 near the end of the show.

I work in the ER. We’ve treated people who’ve drowned or passed out in the cold and seem dead when they are brought in. On those people you sometimes have to do CPR for HOURS until their body warms enough that all of your efforts begin to work (or not). I think the longest we’ve ever done CPR on a drowning victim found in the winter time was about 16 hours. You need a lot of staff to work at resuscitating a patient for that many hours because it’s exhausting work.

I’m sure people watching Greys Anatomy last night were probably wondering why they didn’t warm her fast. I actually wondered why they didn’t have a warm air bubble type blanket (warming blanket) on her like they did on the pregnant woman with the severely damaged face and chest that had just come out of surgery. The warming blanket would help warm Meridith up – but it works slowly. You can’t warm up a person with hypothermia too fast. It has to be gradual.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how they play this out in next weeks show- part three of three.

What do you think will happen?
