Handy site lists 101 different tools to convert video, audio and more

September 12, 2007 by Tricia

Earlier today as I was surfing the net I came across a site called Conversion Central. It lists 101 tools to convert video, audio, music, image, PDFs and more. I’ve already bookmarked the site because I’m certain it will come in handy when I’m trying to find something to convert some type of file into another in the future.

I wanted to tell you about the site, because I’m sure you’ll find it handy too.

I mean, there’s been times in the past when I’ve tried to find software that would convert video from my cell phone to the more common AVI format. It was a frustrating search that took hours, but I finally did find something that would convert the files for me. Now of course I’m sure the software that I downloaded has expired or is outdated so it’s nice to have found this site that lists just about every kind of conversion tool that you can imagine.

Not only will you find a multitude of tools that will help you with converting video, converting music or converting images into different formats, but you’ll also find software and tools that will convert PDF files to Word documents and other formats, or convert text and rss and other text formats to PDF.

Scrolling down the page I also found tools for converting Power Point, Excel, drafting documents to new formats and tools to convert measurements, temperatures, currency, and even clothing sizes!

You have to check this site out. I’d be surprised if you didn’t at least bookmark or favorite it, like I did, once you visit.

I can’t believe that Halloween is just around the corner

September 11, 2007 by Tricia

Can you believe it’s already almost mid-September? The kids are back to school, summers almost over and it’s getting cooler. Well, it’s getting a bit cooler here! The leaves on the trees will soon turn red, orange and yellow, lovely in their glorious flaming colors, then they will fall to the ground right around Halloween.

Yes, Halloween. It’ll soon be here, and if you enjoy celebrating the holiday it’s time to begin thinking about what kind of halloween costumes you and your friends or family might want to dress up in.

The last couple of years I haven’t done much for Halloween. Oh, we decorate our house. Some years we decorate more than others, but there’s always some decorations. We buy candy and treats to give out to the kids and occasionally we’ll dress up for Halloween.

I get a kick out of some of the kids Halloween costumes. They are so cute when they come to our door, often in groups of two to twelve! Yes, they do roam the streets in little packs, often with a parent or two in tow. Some kids are really shy and others quite bold. All seem to be quite pleased with themselves if you compliment them on their costumes.

I’ve noticed that some of the parents coming around with their children occasionally have infants with them. A few collect candy for their infants – which I don’t really understand since their babies are too young for most of the treats that are given out. Often when a parent has an infant with them on Halloween, usually while walking with an older child of course, their babies are dressed in infant Halloween costumes. I think those are the most adorable costumes of all. I’m certain that I’ve seen some babies dressed up as lady bugs and sunflowers. I love those costumes.

So what are you planning to dress up as this Halloween? Have you purchased costumes for your kids yet? Are you getting excited?

Want discount pricing when you book a cruise?

September 10, 2007 by Tricia

After my dinner boat cruise last weekend I think I can honestly say that I might actually take a holiday cruise one day.

You see, even though I’ve been around and even on water a good portion of my life it’s always been on smaller waterways. I’m a canoe enthusiast and I’ve canoed on creeks, rivers and small lakes. I’ve also white water rafted and white water canoed, but I’ve never spent much time in any type of boat on large bodies of water. Lake Ontario is huge. Some who’ve seen the photos I’ve occasionally included in my posts have thought that I live near the ocean.

It’s a lake, and last Saturday was my first time on a large boat on a large body of water. For some reason I’ve been nervous of being on large bodies of water. My sister has tried time and time again to get me to take a cruise with her. I’ve promised I would, and now after last weekends experience on a large boat I think I can do it.

Have you taken a holiday cruise?

I visited the Direct Line Cruises website and discovered that they list hundreds, if not thousands, of Discount Cruises from locations all over the world.

Direct Line Cruises has been in business for 12 years and in that time they’ve established themselves as a cruise-only agency that specializes in Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Norwegian cruises.

I’ve often thought that if I ever did go on a cruise I’d like to go on an Alaskan cruise. Of course I’d probably go on a Caribbean cruise as well.

One thing that I like about Direct Line Cruises, is that they just launched a brand new site on August 20th which gives site visitors the ability to book cruises directly from the site.

You can begin searching for a cruise to a particular destination right from the main page of the site, or you can click on one of the links or icons for specific types of cruises or destinations and go from there.

For example if I wanted to go on the 7 night Alaska round trip cruise from Vancouver, B.C with Norwegian Cruise Line, which is apparently has starting prices at only $599 per person, I could click on the Alaska Cruises icon on the main page of the site, find the cruise and cruise line that I’m most interested in in the listings, in this case the Norwegian Cruise Line Alaskan Cruise and then click the link for more information. From there I was taken to a page that lists all the different cruise departure dates and pricing for Interior, Oceanview, and Balcony cabins or even a Suite.

Once you select a departure date, for any of the various cruise listings of course, you’d just need to click on the “select” button to be taken to a page where you can learn more about the specific cruise and begin the booking process by listing how many people you’d be booking the cruise for and from there you’d be able to pick out exactly which type of cabin or room you’d like to stay in and so on. Of course you could also call the 1-800 number that’s listed at the top of each page to book your cruise with a Direct Line Cruises agent.

Near the bottom of the main page you’ll find listings for featured cruises and promotions, or you could simple visit the “Cruise Deals” page which is listed in the links in the left menu.

All cruises booked with Direct Line Cruises have free cruise cancellation protection policies. Of course there are specific conditions that apply to this free cancellation protection policy, but I’m pleased that they offer this service.

For a newbie to cruises like me the articles entitled “Cruise Facts” and “Cruise Lines” as well as the ability to get free cruise brochures are very helpful.

We’ll get me on a cruise at some point. I’m sure of it. Perhaps, if I become a cruise enthusiast, we could even set up a cruise for bloggers at some point?

In the meantime, if you’ve been thinking of taking a cruise vacation why not check out the Direct Line Cruises website and see if you can find any deals and or some fantastic cruise destinations?

Movie Night

September 9, 2007 by Tricia

Have you seen the movie “The Queen”? We recorded it off the movie channel last night and we’re just about to begin watching it.

I’d love to get your take on the movie. Didn’t it win an Oscar last year as well as several other awards?

I love settling in to watch a good movie every once in a while. I hope I enjoy The Queen.

Oh yes, I’ll be watching the movie and doing work on the computer. I’m so behind it seems I can never just have a few hours with the computer off unless I’m actually out of the house buying cabinet hardware, gardening supplies or some other thing!

I’m thinking of holding a contest

September 8, 2007 by Tricia

I’m thinking of holding a contest, but I haven’t figured out just what I want to do or how I want to do it yet.

I’ve done some contests in the past, but I haven’t held one for a long time! Contests I’ve held in the past have been caption contests for amusing photos. I think I want to do something different this time round since caption contests are fairly subjective. What I think is a great caption others might not agree with – those kind of contests are probably best done with a few judges.

Whatever I do, there will be a prize involved. I’m thinking of giving away $50. The winner will have to have a paypal account.

What would you do to win $50? Write a post about my site? Or maybe I could come up with a few phrases to fit into a post – however you want and the best post would win? I could have site visitors vote on the posts? What do you think? Is $50 a good prize?

Give me some ideas and suggestions please.

Actually, if this works out well maybe I’ll do a contest on EACH of our blogs. Hmmm that would give readers of my husband and I’s blogs NINE chances to win some money. I’d be a chunk out of my pocket change, but if it increased readership or RSS subscribers it would be worth it.
