My passport is fixed!

November 2, 2007 by Tricia

On Tuesday my husband got off work a little bit early and we scooted downtown to the Passport Canada office to pick up my new passport.

You might remember a post a couple of weeks ago where I was pretty mad at Passport Canada because they’d made a mistake on my passport listing my birthplace wrong? Well, we had to rush to get it fixed!

I’m happy to report that all the information in my new passport is correct! Whew. That’s a huge relief. I was very worried that I wouldn’t get my passport fixed on time for my trip next week. All this worrying over my passport and I’ll bet that no one asks to see it. Yeah, I’m sure that will happen.

I guess I’m not the only one who had to get their passport fixed though. While I was in the Passport office waiting to get my new passport I started talking to the lady next to me and found out that she was also waiting to pick up her fixed passport. I asked her what mistake had been made on hers and she told me that they’d put down that she was a man!

A Man! LOL

Funny thing is .. upon receiving my first passport with the wrong birthplace listed I called the passport office and they had trouble figuring out why a mistake like that would have happened since all of the information is supposed to be typed in and not chosen from a drop down menu as I had though. But really … come on … They’ve got to be working with drop down menus. The city they mistakenly put down for my birthplace would have been very close to the correct city on a drop down list and in the gender category there’s pretty much really only two choices right? I think the lady I spoke to was wrong about they typing the information in. Had to be.

Anyway … I’m glad they didn’t put me down as a man!

Should I go to the all weekend long party?

November 2, 2007 by Tricia

I was just saying in my last post how busy I’ve been this week and how I think I made myself get sick since I over did things. Well, you’d think after the week that I had I might get to relax a bit this weekend? Doesn’t look that way.

This weekend a good friend of ours is holding a surprise birthday party for my sister in law. Not only that, this friend of ours took my sister in law and her husband on a cruise to the Bahamas last weekend too! That was also a surprise. Nice eh?

These parties are a taxing event in themselves. Our friend goes all out. I’m sure she’s got an eight course meal planned, lots of booze and to top things off they have a hot tub so I’m sure it will end with everyone in the hot tub.

Speaking of going all out. Last summer our friend had a 10th wedding anniversary party for my sister in law. She deep fried a turkey, cooked a ham, served seafood and invited guests from all over North America. I’m sure she’s already planning the renewing of their vows, perhaps one of those beach weddings or something!

I’m not sure I’m up for the party. It’s out of town so we’d have to stay over night either at our friends or my parent in laws (also stressful!). I might just try to bow out gracefully. Hey, I need to be healthy by the time we hit Vegas next week right?

If I was feeling better I don’t think I’d mind going away for two days, but the way things are for me right now I think I’ll be putting my trip in jeopardy if I go to this party.

Maybe Chris can bring me a doggy bag?

If you’re having a cosmetic surgery treatment make sure it’s with the best

October 26, 2007 by Tricia

As you might remember, my husband and I have a PVR so we tape a lot of television shows and watch them when we have time. Well, last night we got around to watching the previous evenings episode of CSI New York. Did you see it? It was a great episode about a hit woman using Second Life to pick off her targets.

One of the things that caught my eye in that episode was that one of the characters, who ended up being the first victim on the show, had had cosmetic surgery to enhance her looks. I don’t even know if the procedure that she supposedly had done is even a real cosmetic surgery procedure or not, but apparently it was a special type of surgical thread used give her a minor face lift. If this is a real treatment it looks like it would be minimally invasive and as a result much easier and faster to have done!

At this point I can say that I’ve never had any cosmetic surgery done, but as the saying goes “never say never”. I mean, there are so many different cosmetic surgery procedures and treatments available these days that I’m sure more and more people have decided to have a little work done to either correct a flaw, enhance their looks or minimize the effects of aging.

Certainly if you are going to get any form of cosmetic surgery done you should be sure that you have your work done by a certified cosmetic surgeon. I mean it’s your body we’re talking about here – you want to have someone that specializes in the type of treatment you are having done and who has performed the procedure successfully time and time again. Right?

Take for example the medical staff at the SurgiCare clinic. This company has clinics throughout the UK and all of their doctors are GMC certified. SurgiCare employs some of the most respected surgeons in the UK. Looking at their site it sounds as if they put their patients first. They provide their patients with a thorough consultation that is meant to not only find out what the patient wants to have done and what their expectations are, but also to inform the patient of their choices and the total costs of the treatment.

The Surgicare Clinic website has quite a bit of information about all of the procedures and treatments that they specialize in. Looking through their site it looks like they do everything from Smart Lipo treatments to chemical skin peels, derma fillers, treatments for excessive sweating, facial contouring, acne treatments, laser hair removal, Lip enhancement, microdermabrasion, muscle relaxation treatments, semi permanent make up, teeth whitening, wrinkle treatment, weight loss surgery and an interesting sounding procedure called Non surgical 3D face lift.

If you’ve considered having a cosmetic surgery procedure done and you live in the UK do visit the SurgiCare website to see what they can do for you and to read up on the various treatments.

In the meantime I’m going to try to find out if the cosmetic surgery that I saw on CSI NY is really real. I’m intrigued!

Can you imagine!

I’ve never had anything quite like this happen to me before – and I’m glad of it!, but I have had a few interesting encounters with animals in zoos and animal sanctuaries.

I remember once when I was a little kid my family took a road trip to the States. I’m not sure where we were exactly, but we went to a zoo or something that allowed people to walk in the very large enclosure that held deer, llamas and I’m certain there was a buffalo in there too.

Well you know at places like that there are food stations that people can buy pellets or in my case a cracker type of food to feed the animals. When I got my food to give to the animals they totally mobbed me! I was maybe 3.5 feet tall at the time and I was surrounded by I’m sure 20 deer. I’m pretty sure I was terrified and screaming. It certainly is a vivid memory!

My lucky sister in law gets a surprise cruise for her birthday?

October 24, 2007 by Tricia

It was my sister in laws birthday on the 18th. She turned 40.

Not this weekend, but the next a mutual friend of ours is going to have a surprise birthday party for my sister in law. She even went so far as to send out invitation – even sent one to Chris’ brother in Chicago and he’s planning on coming to the party! Since he doesn’t fly I think it’s quite a distance to drive just for a birthday party, but he’s like that and that’s another story in itself.

Not only is our friend having a surprise birthday party for Chris’ sister, but this weekend she’s taking my sister in law and her husband on a weekend Bahamas cruise! That’s also a surprise.

I can’t believe she bought four tickets (her husband is going too of course) for a cruise!

I imagine it was a special package deal. I was curious as to how much it might cost to fly to say Miami and then go on a weekend cruise – for four so I visited the travel club that my husband and I joined when we got our package deal to Las Vegas and looked at what kind of prices they had for their cruises. The lowest price that I could find for airfare and four people on one of the big cruise lines in the cheapest cabins offered was about $3500 in total!

Wow. I sure hope our friend got an even lower price than that. Still it must have cost something close to that.

Now why can’t our friends give Chris and I special surprise parties or buy us trips too?

Our friend has surprise parties or big dinner parties for Chris’ sister or her husband every year and of course we’re always invited. My only problem with the whole deal is that whenever it’s my brother in laws special party – it’s alway either on my birthday or the same week as my birthday .. uh what about me? LOL Or … Chris’ sister’s birthday is only four days before Chris and I’s wedding anniversary but other than an invite to the party our special day is forgot.

We’re all very close friends too. I just think it’s a little strange.
