I’m So Unspectacular

August 27, 2008 by Tricia

My Toronto blogger friend, Lyndon from Lyndonology, tagged me last week with the Six Unspectacular Quirks meme.

I don’t do this kind of meme very often, but sometimes they are kind of fun and I think they give readers a better idea of who the blogger is, so I decided I’d give it a whirl.

If you’d like to participate in this meme go right ahead. Here’s the rules:

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Mention the rules.
3. Tell six unspectacular quirks of yours.
4. Tag six bloggers by linking.
5. Leave a comment for each blogger.

I’m going to leave out rule 4 and 5 because if I tag others I’ll just end up getting more tags! LOL

I think I have a lot of quirks so picking out just 6 won’t be easy! Let’s see …

1. I really like my feet being tickled. Not the tickle to make you laugh until you can’t breath kind of tickle … just nice gentle tickles with the tips of your fingers. It’s sooooo relaxing. I married Chris because he’s a good tickler. Ok I married him for other reasons too, but that was on the list. 😉

littleme 2. When I was a baby I went through a period where the only way my parents could get me to sleep was to put me on my stomach and pat my bum until I was bouncing like a basketball. I’d fall asleep that way and start crying as soon as they stopped! They’d have to take turns bouncing me for hours! Strangely enough I can now fall asleep without having my bum patted.

3. I detested – really really hated! peanut butter all my life. Just the smell of it would make me nauseated, but … a couple of months ago I got a craving for it and I now eat it regularly.

4. I don’t like most reality shows, but I think I’m secretly addicted to America’s Got Talent. I guess it isn’t a secret anymore.

IMGP15631 5. My regular and casual visitors likely already know I like dogs and probably realize that I’m an animal lover, but did you know that I love reptiles? I kept reptiles for decades. We currently only have an Eastern Box Turtle and an Ornate Box Turtle, but we’ve had as many as 9 lizards and the two turtles at the height of our reptile keeping days. Back in 1995 I started my first website “Tricia’s Chinese Water Dragon, Reptile and Amphibian Care Page“. Yeah I’ve come up with better names for my sites since then, but that one’s accurate in it’s description. It’s a huge website that gets 1000’s of visitors each day and it’s had over 15 million page views since I started tracking stats. I’ll bet you never thought there’d be that many people seeking reptile care info, did ya? I’ll also bet that you didn’t know I’m a reptile guru!

6. When I was a child my parents had trouble getting me to eat my vegetables. Somehow my mom figured out that I’d eat some veggies, that most people like better cooked, raw. These days I’ll eat most veggies (cooked), but I still don’t mind eating things like Potatoes and turnip raw – in fact I think I prefer them that way!

Ok so was that unbelievably unspectacularly quirky enough for you? Feel free to do this meme on your blog or better yet leave me a comment with one of your unspectacular quirks!

Earlier today I received an award from a blogger who clams she’s mainly a lurker. I love it when I’ve made a post that finally gets a reader to leave a comment or better yet, as in this case, give me an award that says:

blogger_award.jpg

Thank you Wendy! When I went to visit Wendy’s site, The Domestiquette I discovered that she’d given the award to 5 other great blogs which will now become part of my reading list, along with Wendy’s blog of course! BTW I’ve been to Wendy’s site before in my travels, but I’ll try to get there a little more often.

BTW Wendy I hope your internet connection gets better!

Like the previous tag I believe I’m supposed to pick out blogs I’d like to give the award to, but there are so many blogs that I really love! It’s too hard! So I think I’ll pass on that part of the tag, but if you’d like to award some of your favorite blogs with this award go ahead and copy the award image (do not link to it!) and give it out to your favs.

So what are your quirks? This inquiring mind wants to know!

Prison Break is back!

August 25, 2008 by Tricia

Did you know that the two hour season premiere of Prison Break is on tv right now?

I’m sure some of my American friends are watching the Democratic Convention, even some of my Canadian friends too since it’s broadcast here as well … but I hope you’re taping the premiere!

We are. We’ll watch the show in a little while once we’re both done blogging and answering all of the email that’s piled up in our inboxes. Oh and after I’ve paid the bills! We have a big car insurance payment to make by the 30th of the month. God I hate bills … well, paying them!

Chris and I didn’t really watch the first season of Prison Break, but when the writers strike started last year and all there was on TV were reruns we began watching Prison Break since it was a show that we hadn’t seen before and we both got hooked.

I must admit that I’m looking forward to next week. A number of shows that we like to watch are starting up again on September 1st and 2nd and others will be starting a little later in the month. I’m happy to see that many of my favorite shows are starting up earlier than normal. Maybe it will be a nice long TV season considering last years was so short thanks to that writers strike.

Are you a fan of Prison Break? What shows are you looking forward to seeing when they start up again next month?

Oops! Uhm … as I said above I was taping the show and hadn’t started watching it. If I had … well .. I would have realized it was the two hour season finale from last season, not the premiere. (((Blush))) The season premiere is September 1st (I believe). Sorry if I had anyone madly searching the channels for the premiere!

My dog has wrinkles!

August 23, 2008 by Tricia

Our dog stalking a bug

This weeks photohunt theme is Wrinkled and I love nothing more than the wrinkles that appear when my Lab Puppy lifts her ears.

See how the skin at the top of her head is wrinkled in this photo?

I took this while we spent some time in the garden earlier today.

I think Midnight was trying to stalk a bug or something. It certainly looks like she’s watching something intently doesn’t it?

Flashpoint – a great new summer show

August 18, 2008 by Tricia

Did you happen to watch Thursday nights episode of Flashpoint? If you haven’t seen it you should as it’s a great show. It’s a combination Canadian and US production, I believe, and it’s filmed right here in Toronto.

FLASHPOINT is a drama that depicts the emotional journey into the tough, risk-filled lives of a group of cops in the SRU (inspired by Toronto’s Emergency Task Force). It’s a unique unit that rescues hostages, busts gangs, defuses bombs, climbs the sides of buildings and talks down suicidal teens. Members of a highly-skilled tactical team, they’re also trained in negotiating, profiling and getting inside the suspect’s head to diffuse the situation to try and save lives.

If you happened to have seen Thursdays show you’ll remember it was about a teenage girl who was being attacked by a girl gang. Near the end of the show the girl was filled with despair and had decided to commit suicide so she ran to the top of the large mall that she’d been in (the Eaton’s Center, but they called it the Paradise Mall on the show). The only thing is that she really wasn’t at the mall anymore. She was on the building across the street.

See the open scaffolding under the LG sign, on the right of the sign or maybe it was on the far left? That’s where the girl was when she was thinking of jumping. That building is the Gap store across from the Eaton Center at Yonge and Dundas.

Chris and I used to work right in that area. If you know Toronto at all, we worked in the tall building on Dundas Square – a tiny little street between Yonge and Victoria that’s opposite the Eatons Center. We worked and well first met there when we were both jewelers. That’s my husband in the forefront of the picture in the grey shirt with his back to the camera. He’s probably just on the corner of Dundas Square in this picture.

There’s always been lots of television shows and movies filmed in Toronto (I’ve even been in a few! When I first started my jewelery business I supported it by being an extra in commercials, movies and TV shows quite frequently), but seeing scenes shot in areas that I’m very familiar with is kind of cool.

It’s also kind of neat to spot their work around, like when they are driving down a highway or street and in the next scene their still driving, but it’s in the opposite direction on the highway or a different street, but the viewers are supposed to think it’s the same direction or same street. If you have movies or shows filmed in your city you might have noticed little things like that too.

Have you had a chance to see Flashpoint yet? I think it’s one of the hot new shows of the summer and I hope that I don’t have to wait until next summer for it to return once this season ends.

Save me from the monster!

August 13, 2008 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Ah! What the heck is that!

It looks like this puppy is afraid of the dinosaur image on the bag doesn’t it? I’m not surprised … the Dinosaur head is bigger than the dog!

I’ll be that puppy would like to do some DNA testing on that dinosaur to find out if the species was a herbivore or carnivore! Actually I’m not even sure that dog is a puppy. it looks like one, but it’s possible that it’s an adult small dog.
