Are you musical? You might do well in voiceovers

November 23, 2006 by Tricia

Have you ever wondered how the actors and actresses that do voiceover work started out?

Many of them have been musicians or classically trained singers prior to becoming voice over talent. They’ve learned through their training – either by playing musical instruments or using their voice the subtle rhythms and breathing techniques, gained vocal stamina and learned how to project their voice properly through their musical training. All of this experience comes out in the form of well developed tone, inflection, diction and phrasing when they do their voiceovers. I bet you never thought of that did you?

If you have a musical background you might do well in the Voiceover industry. If you’ve ever thought of working in this field think about contacting voices.com. This company puts people seeking work in voiceovers in touch with companies such as radio and television stations that are looking for voiceover talent together and makes it easier for each to satisfy their goals.

Bad things come in three’s

November 23, 2006 by Tricia

You think you’re having a bad day? Really?

Tell me about one of your worst days – nothing tragic – more along the lines of a day where everything went wrong. A day that felt like it would never end, but one that, now that it’s over, you look back on and you can actually laugh about it because it really was kind of funny or ridiculous.

One of my funny bad day memories happened when I was about 10 years old. I had come to Toronto with my parents for my brothers wedding. On that day my sister and her boyfriend took me out shopping in downtown Toronto. My aunt was going to meet me at a bus stop and then I’d get a drive with my aunt and uncle to a suburb of the city (Richmond Hill) where my parents would be waiting in a the hotel for me. We were then going to get ready and go to the church to attend my brothers wedding.

Well the shopping trip with my sister and her boyfriend turned out ok, but it went down hill from the time I got off the bus. My sister had stayed on the bus to return to her home. I was to get off and wait for my aunt to meet me on the corner. She never came. I called my uncles house but there was no answer. Now remember I’m a 10 year old kid, standing on a street corner all by myself in a very big city that I’m unfamiliar with. I started to get scared.

I kept trying to call my sister and eventually got her but for some reason she couldn’t come back to get me. I think she had to have her hair done for the wedding since she was in the wedding party. She must have called my parents or my brother though, because about an hour and a half after I’d gotten off the bus my brothers car pulled up. He’d driven for 40 minutes or so to come and rescue me and it was his wedding day!

Ok I guess that’s not that funny a story when I look back on it – but I can laugh a bit about it now. Everything that happened was all because of miscommunications. I think it was really my aunts fault that I didn’t get picked up as I should have been, but my sister was the one that got blamed in the end.

As bad as my day was it doesn’t compare to this guys bad day:

Owwwwwwwww!!!!

Early celebration dooms racer

November 23, 2006 by Tricia

Have you ever congratulated yourself or someone else just a little too early?

You know like Faith Hill did at the music awards two weeks ago? Smiling and cheering when the winner was announced and starting to move towards the stage the tiniest bit then the name that was announced sank in and she realized it wasn’t her name? Yeah, she says she was just acting or fooling around but I think she really thought she won.

Ok, so you know what kind of situation I’m talking about now.

Watch this video then- it’s very short – and see a very good example of why you shouldn’t celebrate until you win the race.

Michael Jackson reappears?

November 17, 2006 by Tricia

Did you see in the news yesterday that Michael Jackson made his first public appearance since his trial in 2005? Yep, he attended the World Music Awards in the UK earlier this week.

I was actually surprised to see him and hear about him being there. For some reason I guess I’d thought we’d heard the last of him- at least for a long while anyway.

He didn’t look too bad- although in the clips that I saw there were no real close ups of his face. Perhaps he’s been seeing more Cosmetic Surgeons in his time out of the public eye? I’m not sure, but either way he didn’t look too bad.

It sounds like he was too nervous about being there to do a good job of singing and performing. Given his history of arrests and trials I guess he has enough reason to be nervous.

He was awarded the diamond award for having more than 100,000 million records sold during his career.

I’m turning into a catfish

November 16, 2006 by Tricia

Wow, I debut in my second internet video EVER!

P is one of the best companies I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Honest. I’m not just saying that. Almost ever week lately there’s been an opportunity to make a fun video of some kind. This week Ted, Aka Antonio the master impressionist, decided to challenge his bloggers to make a Catfish impression video that rivals his. Now his was really good. I’m not sure mine is quite up there with his, but it’s pretty good.

The other reason why I’m enjoying P is because it’s getting me to do things that in all my years on the internet I’ve never done before and that’s – show my face! Not a big deal for most of you out there but I don’t even like having my picture taken, so actually showing myself in a video is a BIG deal.

So, here it is my impression of a catfish!

And to immortalize my embarrassing catfish impression I’ll give you a photo of it too:
