Teen boot camps help troubled teens

May 2, 2007 by Tricia

When I was still a young teenager myself my oldest brother, 19 years my senior, got married and had a son with his then wife. My brother worked a lot of long hours during the day and evening and his wife ended up at first what we believed was post-partum depression, but then it turned out that she was schizophrenic. She just couldn’t handle carry for my baby nephew and he was in fact being neglected when my brother was not home to care for both the baby and his wife.

My mother and I stepped and took care of the baby, and for most of his first year of life he lived with us. I was just 12 at the time and it felt like I was already a mother, especially considering that my own mother was getting close to 60 at the time and tired more easily than when she had her own children to care for. Believe me, after that I knew I didn’t want to get pregnant as a teen!

My brother and his wife eventually broke up, and since custody was normally given to the mother back in those days my little nephew ended up living with his maternal grandparents because his mother was just too ill to care for him properly.

Just to keep a long story short, lets just say that as a teen my nephew didn’t do very well. I don’t know if it was his messed up upbringing or the fact that much of his maternal family had a history of mental illness, but when my nephew eventually returned to live with his father he was a hellion.

He tried to set fire to the house with my brother in it, and made what we are sure a few other attempts on his life, stole things and did all kinds of cruel things. He eventually took off at 16 and lived on his own in a number of different cities throughout North America.

I’m happy to say that he got his life back in order and he’s married and a father himself. I honestly never thought that he’d straighten out.

If there ever was a candidate for Boot Camp my nephew surely was one. I only wish that we’d thought of putting him into a boot camp when he was still a teen because he might have straightened his life out that much earlier.

Boot-Camp-Boot-Camps.com is a great site for anyone looking for information on the various types of boot camps available. They have listings for Military style boot camps and Teen Boot Camp – Help For Troubled Teens. It seems that they have listings for most of the United States and Eastern Canada.

Originally boot camps were started as an alternative to jail for troubled teens, but now there are several types of boot camps available. There are State/Province run camps, as well as private camps.

These camps challenge teens mentally and physically and give them some order in their lives. I know that some of the kids that have gone through these programs really straighten out. They go back to school and get their life in order.

If you, or someone you know has a troubled teen, you might want to visit Boot-Camp-Boot-Camps.com and see what types of camps are available for the child, as well as read through the many articles and resources on the site.

Worst job ever?

Wordless Wednesday

Isn’t that amazing that one person can move such a heavy load! Can you imagine how your back would feel after a few years of doing that? Ok maybe a few months of doing that? I can’t imagine.

We are so lucky to not have to do this kind of work aren’t we?

Speaking of jobs – what’s the worst job you ever had?

I want to get out of this place

May 1, 2007 by Tricia

Well, the way I’m feeling today I think I’m might just get on a plane and take a break. I’ve always wanted to go to Egypt and even the middle east. Perhaps I should just take a last minute holidays to Sharm or may be not. It’s probably too hot there right now anyway.

I’d be happy enough to just get away to the cottage for a while too. That would be cheaper. Plus it’s the right time of year to do that here anyway. Yeah, the cottage does sound good. I’d barbeque everyday too.

One place that I will not be going in a month is PostieC0n in Florida because the time and place have just been changed! Can you believe that? I haven’t been to visit the P-P forums yet but I’m sure they are going wild. I think there’s going to be a lot of upset people.

You ever feel so fed up with something that you just want to kick things?

Winning and Losing?

May 1, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve got big news coming soon … I know I teased you a few days with it but I think I might be able to tell you about it within a few hours, certainly by tomorrow.

The news is coming just at the right time too because I’m pretty fed up with some of the other things that I’ve been doing. I mean … as a way to make money and promote our sites and so on. It’s getting stressful and now I’ve got something like Big Brother watching over me and I’m really fed up.

You know, I’ve been stuck at home sick for 16 months now. Terrible pain and not able to work and still I didn’t get depressed. I just kept myself going and always tried to look at the bright side and make the best of things. Lots of good things have happened during this time period too so I do have a lot to be grateful for … but the only time I verge on the side of being depressed is when this one company gives me a hard time. Like today.

One step forward … two steps back ..

Dinner and a meeting

May 1, 2007 by Tricia

Saturday night Chris and I got together with an advertiser that I’d done a post for earlier in the month. It turned out that he lived in the Toronto area, enjoyed my writing, and that he offered me a free lance job writing on his company blog a few times each week.

So Chris and I went to meet with him Saturday night and we had a great time. Paul’s a really nice guy and a very good cook. I must get some of the marinade that he used on the steaks that he served us. The steaks were nice and tender and had a mildly sweet honey taste to them. Mmmmm.

Paul has an electric and acoustic guitar so Chris entertained us here and there by playing some tunes on the guitar.

All in all it was a nice little get together and very nice for me since I don’t seem to get out much lately. I’ll let you know more about the blog that I’ll be writing on soon so that you can come and visit me there too if you’d like.

What did you do last weekend?

BTW very few of you guys clicked on the post that I did for Paul. Don’t some of you do some work in your homes? Redesign a room? Remodeling? Put in a new kitchen or bathroom? Don’t you want to win and earn $5000 that you could put towards your reno projects?

Since I might end up working for this company I can’t enter. I really want to enter though, because as you probably know we’ve got several ongoing reno projects and we’ve documented them from start to finish as we went.
