Celebrity Weddings- who cares?

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

Just glimpsed Entertainment Tonight and I see that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are going to get married very soon.

You’d think they were royalty the way the media has been talking about them continuously over the past year or so. I can’t wait until they get married and then maybe the press will settle down about all this wedding stuff and give it a rest for a while.

Of course they won’t though. Yet another celebrity will be in the news for eloping, being engaged or getting married. What’s the big deal. People get married every day. It’s a normal thing, and it’s supposed to be special, but celebs and many non celebs treat marriage so casually. Marriage is like buying and wearing underwear – you don’t just throw them out when they get dirty, you have to wash them and take care of them.

Are you as tired as I am about hearing about Cruise and Holmes and other celebs and their weddings?

My TV cable is messed up!

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

I’m mad at my TV or the cable company. I’m not sure who I’m mad at because I’m not sure who’s fault it is. Since there are a lot of shows on TV these days that we are interested in watching, but either don’t have time to watch or can’t watch because they are on at the same time, we’ve been recording them onto our PVR (personal video recorder).

A few times over the last week when we’ve been watching shows that we taped earlier in the evening or even a few days before we’ve been unable to watch the show. It’s all pixilated, digital grinding noise and just unbearable to watch or even listen to because you can’t make out the words. When this happened last night we called the cable company. We thought that maybe something was wrong with the channel that we were taping it from, but the cable company said that it’s a signal problem and if we don’t get it taken care of it will spread to our other stations.

The cable companies coming in to take a look today. I hope they can fix the problem. I also hope that we don’t end up having to get a new PVR (supplied from cable company) or else we’ll lose the shows I have stored up on it.

So that’s why I’m mad, I missed a few shows that I really like ’cause of that signal. Boo Hoo!

The guide to buying a house humidifier

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

I love Autumn – the fall colours, and the crisp cool air, but unfortunately when it starts to get cooler and cooler the furnace soon comes on. Once the air outside gets cooler and the furnace starts going on several times a day I find the air inside the house becomes very dry. My skin gets drier so I have to use more hand creams and body lotions, and when the air is really dry I even get a slightly sore throat.

The first few years that we owned our house this wasn’t so much of a problem. We have a humidifier built into the furnace. All we had to do was remember to turn on the water supply once the cool weather hit, and clean the tray and uh roller/filter regularly, and the air in the whole house was much more comfortable. Unfortunately one of the sides of the piece that holds the filter in our furnace humidifier broke last year and we couldn’t find a replacement.

The air was so dry in the house that it affected my eyes! One morning I woke up and my left eye felt like someone had punched me right in the eyeball. It hurt so bad I ended up in emerg a day or so later, and the doctor there got me an emergency ophthalmologist visit for the following day because he thought the pressure was elevated in my eye.

If the pressure had been raised in my eye during the ER visit it wasn’t by the time I saw the ophthalmologist. He diagnosed me with dry eye which as I’ve described can be a very painful condition. He even tried suggesting I get something inserted into my tear ducts to help me create more tears to soothe my eyes.

Uh huh. I opted to go out and get a humidifier. It helped a lot! Unfortunately it’s only big enough to humidify one floor of our house, so we have it upstairs right now.

Now I’d like to find a new humidifier that will humidify the main floor of our house, or even the whole house. I was looking around on the web for some information on humidifiers and I found the complete guide to buying a house humidifier. This seems to be a pretty good site if you are having trouble figuring out just what kind of humidifier you need for your home.

The section of the guide that talks about the optimum humidity levels for your home was very helpful. As were many of the other section. Now I think I know what type of humidifier I want to get for our house, all I have to do is get out there and get one.

My right had is numb

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

I don’t know what I did but since midnight or Sunday night/ early Monday morning the outer part of my right hand has been numb. I’m left handed so you’d think this would have happened to my left hand, but I guess not.

The numbness isn’t as bad now as it was last night but it’s still there.

Do you think maybe I’ve been writing too much lately? Uh yeah, I think I might be. Believe it or not I didn’t write very much today. Honest. I only wrote 8 posts (plus answering email of course). That’s not too bad. Yesterday though, I made a number of back up posts – maybe 20 back up posts plus wrote at least 15 that got posted. No wonder my hand went numb huh?

I’m going to let my hand have a rest now. Hopefully it will it be better later today!

Oh I almost forgot, Neil Crespi wanted me to look at his site – I like this site design for a blogger blog, and the site has potential, but it needs more posts. I’d be happy to help you work on your design if you contact me. You’re about me descriptions pretty interesting.

Rate your doctor and get 5 free songs

November 6, 2006 by Tricia

Hey folks. I think I told you about Vimo before. It’s a site that lets individuals or small businesses shop for and compare health insurance plans, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), doctors and dentists in a side-by-side format.

You can even comparison-shop for surgical procedures if you’d like.

Right now, Vimo is offering a coupon to any consumers who go to their site and rate their doctor. With this coupon you’ll be able to get 5 free songs at emusic.com. The songs are MP3’s so you’ll be able to play them on your ipods or whatever music player you have. Even better- if you have more than one doctor that you’d like to rate you’ll get a coupon code for each doctor. In other words, if you rate two doctors you’ll be entitled to 10 free songs.
