Central Gas Heating with Northern Gas

January 29, 2008 by Tricia

I think I mentioned that my neighbors, in order to be able to sell their home, had to change over from oil heating to gas heating. Well they didn’t have to change the mode of heating but their oil tank was really old and any new person buying their home would not be able to get home insurance until the tank was replaced … so to sell their house they made the change to gas.

They changed over two weeks ago. I’m not sure what happened but when I looked outside earlier today I noticed their lawn was dug up again. I guess something must have happened with their gas connection or maybe the work wasn’t quite done two weeks ago and they came back to finish the job. I don’t know.

Someday we’ll change over to gas heating too! I bet we’d save some money as well as have a more efficient furnace.

If you happen to be in the UK and if you are thinking of either having a Central heating installation or perhaps would like a company to help you maintain your furnace for your Gas central heating visit NorthernGasHeating.

The company prides themselves in their mission to deliver better service at better prices than any of the other central heating companies.

NorthernGasHeating will work with you to make sure that your investment is built around your budget. Whether you hire them to maintain your Boiler service or to install central gas heating you can be sure that you’ll get the best price.

Perhaps you have an old furnace and you need to replace it. Just think about how much money you’ll save in the long run by using a modern energy efficient furnace? That’s one of the things I’m looking forward to when we perhaps switch over to gas heating. I’m not sure if we’ll save much money on fuel, but our furnace is probably getting to be close to 20 years old and I’m certain we’ll save on our energy bill. You can too if you upgrade your furnace too.

Anyway, I just thought that my readers in the UK might want to know about NorthernGasHeating. I know there are a number of you from the UK that read my site. If I can help you save some money or find a great company to deal with then I’m happy.

Cigarette butt covered lawns – yuck!

January 29, 2008 by Tricia

It really warmed up here today! Remember all that snow that I showed you a photo of the other day? Well it’s all melted. I think it warmed up overnight as there was still lots of snow when we took our puppy to the park for the second time yesterday evening. By noon it looked like Spring around here.

It’s supposed to get really cold again overnight so Puppy and I took advantage of the nice weather and went for a really long walk this afternoon.

I walked on the sidewalks and for the most part Midnight walked on everyone’s lawn. She was enjoying smelling the grass, mud, plants, melted poo and signs of other animals. Of course she loved smelling all the disgusting stuff. I had to keep pulling her to the side saying “no, yucky poop” or something to that effect.

What disgusted me the most was that a few of the lawns were literally covered in cigarette butts. I guess these were from people that were smokers but who chose to or weren’t allowed to smoke inside their homes.

Now, I’m a smoker. I hate to admit that. I hope to do something about my bad habit in the next few months. I smoke inside … but as I said in one of my recent posts we use air purifiers in the house to help improve the air quality. I clean out our ashtrays frequently so there isn’t a build up of cigarette butts as that adds to the smell in the home.

You’d think that if someone was smoking outside regularly … and I mean really regularly if the whole front lawn is covered in cigarette butts .. that they’d put a can outside to put their butts in or something.

Disgusting. It was worse than the lawns that we passed that had dog poo on them that hadn’t been cleaned up.

BTW when I go out for a walk with our puppy I often bring a cigarette with me. This time I actually forgot to bring one and it didn’t even occur to me that I didn’t have a smoke with me until we’d gotten about a mile from home. Good huh. Maybe there’s hope that I will quit after all.

Do you hate popups as much as I do?

January 29, 2008 by Tricia

I mostly use firefox these days when I’m working on my sites or visiting websites on the internet. I have the popup blocker turned on and I only allow a few sites to give me popups simply because the only way to get the sites to work is to allow popups.

However, lately I’ve found a number of sites that are some how able to bypass the browsers popup blocker controls. Several sites I visited yesterday ended up automatically giving me popup ads.

I hate that!

Seriously, if you’re site works in such a way that you occasionally need to send a visitor to another page while they are doing something on one page – for example registering for the site or for a contest and the reader is supposed to agree to the terms of service or contest rules – don’t make it a popup. Let the link take the visitor to another tab or window or at least give them a choice of whether the link should popup or take them to a new tab.

As for popup ads? Get rid of them! If you want ads for your site tastefully place them in your sidebar or fit them in your post. Honestly. I never ever click on popup ads and I will not ever click on a popup ad. Ever!

Gotta work on the new sites

January 29, 2008 by Tricia

Back in April of 2007 I bought 6 new domains and I had hoped to have developed all of those sites long before now, but sadly I’ve barely had time to do much with the new sites. Well, one of the sites was for my husband Chris. It’s his new Guitarlicksandtips.com music related blog. He’s done a good job of posting articles on that site (well he’s a bit behind lately), but the rest are languishing.

I’m hoping to set aside some time later today to get to work on two of my new home and shopping related blogs. I’ve already been looking around on the internet to find some products to talk about and I came across a great sale at Kohls.com that some of you might want to take advantage of. It’s a big two day sale where you can save 60 – 80% on a number of items. Hey stop by this site first get some Kohls coupons and you’ll probably end up saving even more money!

Anyway, it’s not like the new blogs are blank or anything, but I haven’t done all that much with them. Perhaps after I do some work on some of them today I’ll be willing to let you in on their urls so that you can check them out for yourself.

January in the garden

Strawberry planter covered in snow

I didn’t bring my clay strawberry planters indoors this winter and after a snow storm here’s how one of them looks after a snow storm.

It’s strange.

They must absorb some heat from the sun even on cool days as the snow always melts around the planters and other objects resting on the stones around my raised beds or on my patio so much faster than it does anywhere else.

Here’s a shot of my garden as I stand near the patio looking towards the back of the yard …

Planters and birdfeeders covered in snow

My garden isn’t that attractive in the winter, but at least there’s something to look at when I peer out my kitchen windows!

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.
