The Doctor is in and he is healthy

Dr. JH Nicolas Climbing Rose:

gorgeous Dr JH Nicholas

I thought that since I’ve been on a bit of a doctor and nurse kick this week I might as well introduce you to the only rose I own with the title of doctor. LOL

Dr. JH Nicolas and I had a very tenuous beginning. I planted him in my front flower bed the first year that I got him, but he didn’t grow much. The front flower bed tends to be drier than the other garden beds because of the roof over hang above it. This bed is also on the North side of the house so the light is not as bright either. At any rate, Dr. JH Nicolas wasn’t growing and with it being I climbing rose I knew something was not right.

The following spring the doctor was not looking good. Most of my other roses had leave buds or even leaves by sometime that April. When the doctor still didn’t have leaf buds by May I thought it was a goner. One of the branches near the base had some green on it though so I decided to dig it up and place it in the back garden. I admit I didn’t think it would live and I planted it almost behind another rose.

Well the little guy thrived in it’s new home. This year, it’s second year in it’s new garden bed it grew to 7 or so feet tall and bloomed a good portion of the season. It might even still have some blooms right now.

So I guess the moral of my story is Don’t give up on your Doctor. Ban am bam

TVadio streaming online internet TV

November 11, 2006 by Tricia

I know that many of my visitors listen to internet radio while they are surfing the internet or working on their computers. I’ve also heard from people that live in Europe or other Countries/ Continents who are behind on the popular television series that we in North America get to see as each new episode is broadcast.

Well, I’ve found an interesting site, called TVadio that might satisfy the demand for both of these types of internet broadcasts. TVadio has developed a software that you can download for free if you click here. TVadio sounds like an interesting and easy way to access online internet TV channels.

TVadio is working to connect members to high quality internet TV channels. You’ll be able to browse and watch these channels with a click of a button. The channels are organized by keyword or tags, as well as genre and each channel is well described so you’ll have a good idea of what it’s all about before you start watching a particular channel.

TVadio has picked only high quality internet TV channels for it’s users, no short films. You will also be able to access TV content while using the TVadio browser. You can use the TVadio browser to select channels to watch or browse through the TVadio website and watch the shows from there.

The site and free browser software are currently in beta but with your feedback they plan to add onto the site and develop the software in ways which will make it even easier to use. So, do try it out and send them your feedback.

TVadio already has quite a selection of Online TV channels to view with plenty more to come. Try it out and see how you like it. It’s free so you’ve got nothing to lose.

This weeks Theme is Growth

Next year, these sunflower seeds will become beautiful tall sunflowers.

Well the seeds that the birds and squirrels don’t get will grow up to be sunflowers. Each year I end up with dozens of sunflowers growing in my boulevard garden. I either pluck them out or move them toward the back (edge closed to the road) so that I can maintain the order of my little boulevard garden.

In the ground they will grow until they become towering plants with thick stalks and multiple blooms – just like this one.

Gorgeous aren’t they?

I still haven’t cut down the stalks from this summers growth yet. I will have to get that done this week because before I know it snow will be here. Through the winter I’ll spend some time looking at these sunny photos. It will help me get through the darkest coldest days.

Please leave a link if you are a Photo Scavenger Hunt participant. If you aren’t your link will be removed. Comments of course are always welcome.

The land of the pretty people

November 11, 2006 by Tricia

A long long time ago – no I’m not about to sing the song that, that line is making me thing of (hey name the song if you can)- when Chris and I lived in our apartment, we lived in a very trendy area of Toronto. It was the Yonge and Davisville area commonly known as Yuppyville when I first moved into the apartment, also very close to Yonge and Eglinton aka Yonge and beautiful.

It was a sad day- in a way- when we moved from the area. I was going to miss the hustle and the bustle, the antique stores, great restaurants, the little shops that resell designer clothes. I loved just walking down Mount Pleasant and popping into all the different stores. Chris and I would go to one of the restaurants at least once every two weeks or so. Even though we live in a very Greek area now I still say that one of the best Greek food restaurants in the city is on Mount Pleasant.

I do love my house and the area, but it’s a lot more relaxed than our former hot neighborhood, and in a lot of ways that is appreciated. I did think one thing that was kind of nasty though, when we moved from Yonge and Beautiful / Yuppyville – I turned to Chris when I found out the former owners of our house had accepted our offer and said “We’re moving from the land of the pretty people.”

You see, the area we used to live in was an area where you didn’t go out if you didn’t have make up on and you wore really nice clothes if you could. You wouldn’t be caught dead going to the store in sweats. Uhuh, and everyone just always seemed to be thin, well muscled and more often than not very attractive – probably because of all that makeup of course. LOL Now in this area- as I said it’s more relaxed. People stop and say hello, people are more real and there are still great stores, entertainment and restaurants within easy walking distance. But I do miss my Yuppyville.

Do any of you live or have you lived in area like the one I lived in? Fun, but very pretentious? Fake? I really do love where I live now, but I do miss the land of the pretty people every so often.

I think I found some uniforms

November 11, 2006 by Tricia

Earlier I was talking about getting some new nursing uniforms for when I go back to work. Think positive think positive that I’ll be feeling good enough to go back in December.

I was looking at Scrubs Gallery and I think I found a style of nursing pants that I like. Their flare leg elastic waist band pants. Yeah the elastic waist band doesn’t sound as cool as the flare leg style does, does it? But most nursing uniforms have elastic waistband for comfort and probably because they’re easier to make that way too. I’d maybe match those red pants with this Christmassy scrub top too.

I often end up working with small children so something cheery and playful would be great. yeah, I think I might get those. What do you think?

In those unfortunate times that you’ve had to be hospitalized or even spend a bit of time in the ER did you like the nurses uniforms when they were wearing bright colors or cheery prints?
