My Thoughts, Ideas, and Ramblings

October 19, 2007 by Tricia

Hey gang, if you like my daily ramblings you might also enjoy my blogging friend Lisa’s blog My Thoughts, Ideas, and Ramblings. I’ve known Lisa through a blogging forum that we both visit regularly for about a year now. Shame on me for not telling you about her site earlier!

Lisa is a work at home mom of two young children. You’d think that a three year old and a four month old would keep her busy enough, but she makes time to write in My Thoughts, Ideas, and Ramblings as well as her other blog Lisa Reviews several times each day! I know life can be hectic with small children to care for so it’s amazing that she can write as much as she does!

Lisa writes about the events in her life such as preparing for the holidays, taking her little girl to the dentist for the first time, the adventures of potty training, and things like how great it would be to be able to have a virtual makeover before getting your hair cut or making a big change in your appearance.

I think I’ll get to meet Lisa in Las Vegas in November as I believe she’ll be going to the blogging conventions too. Should be fun!

So if you’re looking for a new blog to add to your daily reads check out Lisa’s two sites. I think you’ll like them.

Great daily reading at The Foo Logs

October 15, 2007 by Tricia

foo.gif Have you ever visited The Foo Logs? If you hang out at my pal Fab’s site, Pointless Drivel, you’ve probably encountered The Foo from time to time and might have even already visited his blog.

The Foo likes to blog about a number of topics, but the main topics of the blog are Tech trends & life’s ramblings. I guess this blog is a little like The Foo’s in some ways as I tend to write about those two topics quite often as well.

If you believe in Karma there’s an excellent post up right now called What Goes Around, Comes Around. It’s a true story and I’ve heard it before, but it’s a classic. The story will make you believe in Karma if you don’t already!

Then there’s a post that I think most everyone might find helpful at one point or another.

Do you ever tinker with your sidebar widgets trying to find a color that matches your blog themes colors? Perhaps you don’t want to change your websites theme, but want to spruce it up by changing the color of the links or other areas?

Well, I’m sure you’ve encountered some sites that offer very limited colors for you to choose from when you are customizing a widget. You often have to know what the actual code is to create the color you want. Well, The Foo, was frustrated with sites like this and the time it took to find the right colors so he went ahead and created a page with a table of color swashes as he calls it.

Check out The Foo Logs. As I said, if you like this site you’ll probably enjoy The Foo Logs as well. The posts are a mix of humor, life and some really great tech finds that might help you with your own website or blog.

Enjoy free time on the weekend? Visit Everyday Weekender

September 13, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve just spent some time reading a blog that I just came across called Everyday Weekender. The site is written by a fellow Ontarian who’s written this blog as a celebration of the weekend. Who wouldn’t like a site that’s all about enjoying some well deserved R&R on the weekend?

Not only is this site written by a fellow Canadian, but I think we might have some things in common. He writes about spending time in the garden, traveling to one of my favorite Caribbean islands – the Dominican Republic, Southern Ontario attractions and events, barbecuing, cottage life and one of my favorite cottage type activities – canoeing!

Yes, it was a post about his new canoe that caught my eye. I’m sure by now you guys know how much I love canoeing so how can I not like someone who’s just learning how to canoe?

There’s plenty of interesting posts filled with DIY activities that will help you enjoy your weekends such as this post about making your own Keggerator. Yes, that’s turning a fridge into a big beer keg! I must show Chris this post … or maybe I shouldn’t as I’m sure I’ll end up with a Keggerator in my basement if I do!

I Luv this site.

If all of that isn’t enough to get you to go and have a peek at Everyday Weekender there is the matter of the PR 5 linkback promotion he’s having. That’s right. If you write an article about his blog he’ll link back to you and you’ll get a link from a PR 5 blog. Gaining another PR5 link for my site is nice, but that’s really not why I choose to tell you about Everyday Weekender today. I don’t gush about sites just for links. I really do love this site and I’ve added it to my blogroll already.

Life in Eternal Flux

September 11, 2007 by Tricia

Some time ago I used to use a feature at Bl0gexplosion called Rent my site. This was something that allowed you to rent a small space in your sidebar for a week, for bl0gexplosion points, to a fellow blogger. I always did a write up for my new renter. Basically this was just a way to expose new blogs to my readers. I stopped doing that close to a year ago, but I still wrote about new blogs that I came across every now and then up until I got too busy with all my blogs.

I think it’s time that I start to give some new blogs that I’ve come across a little bit of exposure again. So without further delay I introduce you to:

Eternal Flux

Leigh has other blogs, but I believe this is her youngest blog. She started it back in June. Our lives are always changing and this blog, Eternal Flux, discusses the changes going on in her life. She’s been busy writing about her life, parenting, her work as a beauty consultant and many other things. Actually, she writes beautiful Wednesday Heroes posts that you must read.

She and her husband just bought a new house. I see that she has a whole list of things that she’s got to do to spruce up her new house. Join the club Leigh, we’re still fixing up our house six years later!

Looking through her site I’ve discovered that she’s an avid reader of Steven King’s books, loves movies, cats and that she’s probably pretty good at managing her time what with raising kids, working, managing her blogs and hopefully squeezing in some “me” time.

Go on over and say hello to Leigh. I’m sure she’ll be happy to see you!

Who’s linking to you?

August 24, 2007 by Tricia

Do you ever check to see who’s linking to you?

I think one of the great things about having a blog on your own domain and using WordPress to run it is the ability to easily find out who’s linked to you recently just by checking your dashboard.

Of course, the WordPress dashboard gets it’s recent links to your site from Technorati, so even if you are using a free blog platform you can check who’s been linking to you by creating an account and adding your site to Technorati. You can also do a Google search by putting this phrase “links: ” in front of your full site url.

I run several blogrolls and my sites are also listed on several blogrolls so I end up seeing new links each day.

Do you occasionally visit the sites that you’ve found linking to you? I do. I don’t always leave a message, but I visit quite a few of them. I’m also thankful for all of the links I seem to be receiving too.
