RSS Feed Subscriber Campaign

June 12, 2007 by Tricia

Jimmi from over at JMH Techtronics has started this new RSS Feed Subscriber campaign.

Every blog, no matter what platform it’s on has an RSS feed. Right? As you might realize there are feed readers out there such as Bloglines, Google Feed Reader and many others that people use to read all the sites that they enjoy in one place.

In order to read those RSS feeds in a feed reader a visitor to a site must subscribe to the RSS feed. My rss feed subscription area is located in the lower portion of the right sidebar if you are looking.

Jimmi created this RSS Feed Campaign so that those on the list could get more subscribers to their RSS feeds. When the list is copied and added to, more people end up getting RSS subscribers and thus more readers of this site.

Having subscribers is a great way to get return traffic to your blogs. If readers use their RSS Feed Readers frequently you should get more traffic than you have ever had before.

What can you get out of encouraging others to subscribe to your rss feed? Well, if you monetize your site you might end up getting more money for your advertising as many of the places that allow us to monetize our sites base their payout/price calculations on our Alexa rank, our sites Page rank, our Technorati rank, and our RSS subscribers!

Now I know that many of the people who read my sites monetize their sites in some form or another. Whether it’s through Google Adsense, Adbrite, Yahoo ads, Text Link Ads or other forms of advertising … the more readers and the more traffic you have the better.

Are you with me?

Ok. The most basic thing that all of us want is more readers. No matter how they read our posts it’s great to have readers isn’t it?

If you want more readers and want to raise your standing with some of the sites that help us monetize our blogs join the campaign.

Here’s the rules:

***Start Copying Here***

1. Create a post and link back to the person that put you on the list in the first paragraph with a brief thank you and description of why people want to use the campaign. DO NOT copy their paragraph. Write your own unique one and link to their site.

2. Copy the ENTIRE list of Feeds and create an OPML File to import into your feed readers so that you can subscribe to all of the blogs on the list. You will want to read my post entitled Mass RSS Feed Subscribing with an OPML so you understand how to do it. (You will want to copy this link over to your post so those you add know how to do this too.)

3. Copy the ENTIRE list of Feeds AND blogs and put them into your post like they are here. Move the “My Adds” from the blog that added you into the “Originals” lists for each. This list is unique because I want you to be able to copy the feeds with out having to delete the blogs before making the OPML file so I separated the two links into 2 lists.

4. Add any blogs you want to the list with whatever keywords you want. Then get their RSS Feed and add those to the list of Feeds in your “My Adds” section.

5. Publish your post.

6. Comment on the post that originated the list here so that new additions can be subscribed to as well by the lists before yours.

Are you listed in The Truth Laid Bear Yet?

June 12, 2007 by Tricia

Have you listed your site on The Truth Laid bear yet? No??? Why not!

Getting listed in the Truth Laid Bar is said to be one of the most important things you can do to promote your site along with listing your blog in Google, Yahoo, MSN and the Open Directory Project.

I like the Truth Laid Bear because you can connect with similar sites, see how many other sites link to yours, and your site is ranked with really cool ecosystem names that describe where you site stands in the blogisphere. This site is listed as being a Higher Being” where as some of our newer and less promoted websites are Flippery Fish or even a Slimy Mollusc.

Sign up, get listed and find out what part of the ecosystem your site lives in.

When I look at my stats I see a lot of traffic coming from the Truth Laid Bear site too. That’s perhaps the best reason to visit the site and list your blog.

Mybloglog Community Exchange

June 12, 2007 by Tricia

Oh dear, Mrs. LifeCruiser is on a tagging rampage! She’s tagged me with the MyBloglog Community Exchange started by Garry Conn.

Are you a member of Mybloglog? If you aren’t you should sign up. Social networking is quite popular these days and it’s a great way to promote your site, get a few more links and perhaps even find great sites and make some internet friends.

One way to build your Mybloglog community is by participating in this exchange. Just follow the directions:

The simple rules:

1. Join all of the MyBlogLog communities on the list below.

2. Copy the list and create a new post on your blog and paste the list onto your post.

3. Write a brief paragraph that explains what the game is above the list (just as I have done here, but with your own words).

4. Add 2 or 3 or more MyBlogLog communities to the list and then publish the post. Add the new members to the bottom of the list.

The exchange list:

* Lifecruiser

* Tricia’s Musings

As the Garden Grows

The Web Files

Renny BA’s Terella

Take a moment and copy this to your site and add some of your own contacts. I picked my adds randomly!

What’s the Big Deal?

June 7, 2007 by Tricia

Remember a few weeks ago, ok, back in April, I was talking about a “big deal”? Well, if you happen to read my other sites you would have seen evidence of my new advertising deal on As the Garden Grows first.

This site, and As the Garden Grows have been accepted into the Glam Network. What does that mean?

Well, the two sites are listed as Glam Network blogs. I believe that Glam has only accepted about 300 blogs into their network at this time so I’m quite honored that not one, but two of my sites are listed there. The sites have been part of the Glam network for over a month now.

Millions of people visit the Glam network each month in order to get the latest news about fashion and beauty related trends and sales, take quizzes, read about celebrities, enter contests, and read about issues related to women that are written by women. Obviously this is a very female oriented network and it’s fast becoming the top womens network on the net. You can even join the site, create a profile and a blog if you choose, and interact with other Glam Network members. I’m listed as dragonden over there if you join.
Can you see why I thought it was a big deal that my sites are listed there?

Not only are my sites listed, but the rss feeds for my sites are also listed so if someone clicks on my listing on the Glam network they can read my latest posts, subscribe to my rss feed, and hopefully end up visiting the site to leave me a comment or at least view the rest of the site. I can also submit some of my articles each week and if chosen they’ll be promoted on the front page of glam for a week.

As part of my association with Glam, I’ve also been accepted into their advertising network. See the ads in the right sidebar? What do you think of them?

I think this site is read equally by men and women, whereas the ads that you’ll see in the right sidebar are geared more towards women than men, so I don’t expect that everyone will love them. However, as ads go, I think that these are of a very high quality.

Keep an eye on the ads because you’ll learn of new contests and promotions through them. I’ve noticed that sometimes that ads promote new movies coming out in theaters or ones coming out on DVD too. I’ve also found that some of the ads are interactive. There’s one for Scarlet Johansson’s active wear that lets you see the items of clothing better as you move your mouse over the ad.

What I hope to get out of being part of the Glam network is an increase in readership. That would be fantastic!

I do hope that some of you will explore the Glam Network as there are some great articles there, other great blogs and tons of tips and deals.

Now, if I could get accepted into blogads that would be cool too.

Flipswap allows merchants to offer credit on cell phone trade-ins

June 5, 2007 by Tricia

Have you heard of Flipswap? It’s a new universal buy-back program for cell phones. Business owners can visit the Flipswap Inc. website and sign up for the service.

All business owners need to do is set up the program on a computer that has internet access and they are ready to begin using Flipswap.

The Flipswap program allows merchants to offer rebates to their customers who want to trade in their current cellphone. Presumably the customer will be trading in their cell phone in order to purchase a brand new one from the store. Win win – the business offers a service that makes their customer happy, and if all goes well they make a sale when a customer purchases a new mobile phone.

The merchant will be able to use the web based software to look up guaranteed quotes for the mobile phone that their customer wants to trade in. The software works like a blue book and gives a trade-in value for any phone – in any condition.

Once the merchant knows the trade in value of the phone they can issue a store credit to their customer.

Flipswap also provides their clients with pre-paid shipping labels so they make it easy for merchants to send used phones to the Flipswap warehouse where the old phones will be refurbished and used domestically, abroad, or recycled. Naturally Flipswap also reimburses the merchant for the trade in value that the merchant passed on to their customer.

If you own a store and you sell mobile phones look into the Flipswap service. It sounds like a fantastic idea to me.
