Trapped in the dark

April 16, 2007 by Tricia

Unbelievable! Our power went out!

I was sitting there in total darkness. Ok, well I was, but I went and found some candles so I guess I was sitting in candle light as I waited for the power to return.

The house was so silent it was eerie. Chris went to bed early because he has to wake up at 5 a.m. to get ready for work. He did wake up when the power first went off though. You see it flickered a few times before failing and this triggered my radio alarm clock and made it blast music for a few seconds. I guess he might have also woken up because his c-pap machine that he must wear each night for his sleep apnea would have stopped working too. No more air forcefully being blasted into his nose. I’m sure he didn’t mind that it was off. LOL

I was in the middle of writing a big article for an advertiser. I had actually spoken with the advertiser via email on and off for a few days and we had decided that my article of his site going up on a Monday might be best because I sometimes have a peak in site traffic on Mondays. Hmmm I hate it when things I promise don’t work out – especially if they are due to circumstances that I have no control over. Luckily the power came back on after an hour and I’m busy working on the post again. I did lose what I had written. That was a drag!

All I wanted to do was finish writing and posting my article and then I was going to go to bed so that I would actually get up at a decent time for a change. Now, I’m sitting here trying to re-write what I had written and hoping that it comes out as good as it did the first time round. So much for actually going to bed early for a change.

The power was on just up the street. The street lights and traffic lights were working in that area, but here it was only darkness. The power failure was just from the corner of my part of the street and eastward. I’m sure the hospital, if was effected had to go on back up generator power. I used to hate when the power would go out at the hospital. All the doors would automatically shut, and the fans that circulated air would stop and it would get so warm.

That’s one nice thing about living so close to a hospital. We are on the same power grid as the hospital so when the power goes out in the area or in the city like the big blackout of 2003, they work to restore power to this area first. Well, I mean any areas with hospitals or areas that offer vital services to the public would be first on the list of course. Luckily the power doesn’t go out here very often.

Naturally I wasn’t able to access the Internet either. Our wireless router was off so our Internet connection was down. I wrote the bulk of this post, and have just now changed the tense from present to past, in my email program while using my laptop. Worried the whole time that my laptop battery wouldn’t last the length of the power failure. If the laptops battery had failed I wouldn’t have gotten anything done.

I’m so happy the power came back on … I just hope it stays on at least until I’m done the article that I promised I’d have already posted by now.

Write a disclosure policy for your site

October 29, 2006 by Tricia

I just came across a website that will help you create a disclosure policy for your website. I think this is a great idea for anyone that has a blog or website, particularly if you use your website to help you make some money. Do you have ads on your site? Do you take a fee for links in your sidebar? Do you get paid to write posts? If you do, then you might also be very interested in writing up a disclosure policy.

I just created my own Disclosure policy using the Disclosure Policy Generator. The generator was very easy to use – 6 steps I believe.

Simply choose the statements that best describe your sites policy get to the end and click finish. Then all you need to do is copy and paste the disclosure policy that you’ve pasted into a post or a page on your site. You can change the wording once you copy the disclosure that you’ve created to suit your sides description better. I might tinker with mine a little bit but if you’d like to read it it’s in the sidebar on the left under “Other Pages” – > Second Thoughts -> Click on the + sign beside the words Second Thoughts and you’ll find all the pages on my site – along with the Disclosure Policy. Read it and let me know what you think of it. I think it’s a great way of being open and honest with your readers.

Busy week buzzing around the Internet

October 19, 2006 by Tricia

Thirteen Things about My internet activities this week

1. I’ve been having some fun visiting some of my favorite bloggers this week. Over at Doctor Mom’s I’ve been voting on her idiot of the week postings, and since I’m a regular poster there she’s going to give me a lot on her cul de sac (a permanent space in her side bar) if I’m the top commenter over there this week!

2. I’ve also been hanging out over at Zed’s this week too. Yesterday she had a Canadian day party. Blog parties are a lot of fun. I might have even had the most fun since I was the only Canadian there for the longest time!

3. Then there’s my visits to Pointless Drivel. A few of us seem to compete to be the first person to leave a comment when he puts his latest post up, then we banter back and forth. It’s kind of fun and it’s always interesting to see what Mr. Fab has to say about it when he posts his comments.

4. One of my favorite bloggers Shelli from Shelli’s Sentiments is on a Florida vacation this week. She got to swim with a dolphin on Monday! Lucky girl.

5. Today I spent some time trying to break up a fight that broke out on one of the mailing lists I run – The uromastyx Mailing list. Yeah, the lizard people were fighting! Go figure!

6. I made Mrs. Lifecruisers very special A-Team list! I’m so proud and that bribe I gave her certainly came in handy!

7. I’ve also spent some time in the past week promoting the FOUR blogrolls that I started. Mr. Fab and Mrs. lifecruiser also helped me with this task.

8. I might as well tell you about the blogrolls – since I’m sure you’ll ask about them if I don’t. You would wouldn’t you?

9. One of the blogrolls that I started asks for weekly participation. Anyone who has nice nature photos – be it landscape, garden, garden plants – flowers and greenery – that they are willing to post each Sunday is welcome to join Green Thumb Sunday.

10. The other blogrolls that I started don’t require any participation other than keeping your blog up to date by posting 3 or 4 times a week. One of those blogrolls is for photobloggers and it’s called Fabulous Photoblogs. I’m looking for true photoblogs to join this blogroll.

11. Another blogroll that I run is the I am Canadian blogroll. Other than posting regularly the only other requirement is that you are Canadian, whether you currently live in Canada or not.

12. The last blogroll is a little more specific. I’m looking for bloggers from the Toronto area (the GTA – If you are from the GTA you’ll know what that means) to join the Toronto Bloggers blogroll.

13. I’ve been pretty busy on the internet this week. Leaving comments all over the place and working on my little projects. I need a break!

Please only list your name if you have a recent Thursday Thirteen post. Links left by non-participants will be removed. Also, don’t link and run – that’s just rude.

Finally reviewed!

September 26, 2006 by Tricia

A very long time ago, ok maybe last May, I submitted my site to be rated over at Bloggy Award. Now, several months after I changed this blogs domain to feverishthoughts.com my site has been rated.

My site was apparently rated last Thursday, if you’d like to read the article and tell me what you think you can find it here.

I thought it was pretty good as ratings go. He must have gone to the original site of this blog (http://triciaswaterdragon.com/blog ) and didn’t pick up on the fact that it had changed domains when “it took him to a new domain when he clicked on a link”.

I can’t find any kind of link on the Bloggy Award site to e-mail him and let him know that the link should be updated to my new domain, and that my sidebars roll up now, so they hopefully look a little less cluttered. I just did that last week, don’t you think it looks a bit better?

If you read the article of my site come back and let me know what you think of it.

__________________________

I’m being stalked! No, no it’s not my old lady neighbor Sofie this time. Well, yes she still continues to stalk me by knocking on my door or calling me each day if she doesn’t see me at least 5 times a day. No this time it’s another blogger!

Shelli from Shelli’s Sentiments has fixated on me this week. I don’t know if I should be honoured or scared? I think I’ll go with honoured and pleased since she’s saying such nice things about me over there. You should check out her site if you haven’t been there recently. She’s really sweet and I love her site. She’s also the winner of the Compassionate Award from the Blog Emmy’s. She deserved the win!

_________________________

Another person you should go visit is Doctor Mom. See that square thumbnail of her site in the left upper corner of the page? yep, she’s my renter this week. She’s renovating her cul de sac – thanks to someone called Mr. Fab who wants a bigger lot on the street, and she need a place to stay. The idiot of the week has been chosen. Go on over and see who it is, I’m sure you’ll get a laugh when you do, the photos are Hilarious!

It also turns out that she likes baseball – the Minnesota Twins I think. Speaking of baseball, my hubby and his dad when to the Blue Jays game last night. They beat Boston!

So go on over and vist Doctor Mom at You’ve got 2 B Kidding would you? Let her know that her favorite landlord sent you. I just know you are going to love her site.
