Please don’t stumble my posts

September 6, 2007 by Tricia

Darn!

Someone stumbled one of my recent posts.

I’m going to end up getting too much traffic on my hosting account! Remember last Thursday all my feverishthoughts.com sites were down for 9 hour? I found out it was a traffic surge that caused the cpu resources to go to high on my account.

I’ve got to switch my account or at least some of my sites over to VPS hosting, but until I do please don’t stumble or digg my posts as the resultant traffic might overload my account.

I guess I should be happy that traffic is so high that I need to think about upgrading my hosting. However, I guess if I’m going to have a traffic surge that overloads my account I’d rather it be real hits and not empty traffic that might not really be interested in the post.

Also, if you get too many hits from a site like stumble and you use Google Adsense on your site you could end up having your Google account canceled due to inflated impressions.

I suspect it was an advertiser that stumbled my post in the hopes of advertising their product to more people. Unfortunately, if my sites go down as a result that post won’t be seen by many.

How do I un-stumble a post???

What keeps you coming back?

September 6, 2007 by Tricia

This may be a stupid question to ask, and I might even be asking for it, but here goes …

What do you like about this site?

I write a little about everything, but obviously there’s a few main topics or categories that I write about more than others. What topics do you like best when you come to visit my blog?

Since I talk about a variety of topics and I’m involved with a few different groups there are some people that only come to the site once or twice a week to read a particular type of post. Often the photo oriented posts like Wordless Wednesday, Photo Hunters or my own Green Thumb Sunday meme are read by those who tend to only visit for those posts. I have noticed that a lot of my regular readers seem to enjoy those posts as well.

I’ve also noticed that when I talk about food, perhaps a dinner that I’ve made, that a lot of my readers like to chime in and get involved in the discussion. I’ve also noticed that with other topics that I talk about frequently – my quirky life, my husband, health, gardening, WordPress, blogging and internet or tech related subjects different people respond via comments more often than others.

So what do you like about this site? Which topics keep you coming back?

I’m not planning on changing my writing style or the way I blog, but if there are a few topics that the majority of my readers really seem to enjoy more than others I might be able to find a way to write about them more often.

Site troubles again – anyone know of a good VPS service?

August 31, 2007 by Tricia

Ok so who noticed that all of my blogs on the feverishthoughts.com domain were down from about 9:30 pm until 4 a.m. this morning?

What a PAIN.

Yeah, my site overused CPU resources, again. Or something happened. At least Hostgator, my newish webhost, was able to tell me which domain was affected. I guess I took a lot of hits on the index file of this blog all at once. Either a lot of people tried to visit all at the same time or there was some kind of bot or spam attack going on.

At least this time, with Hostgator, they were nice enough to only shut down my feverishthoughts.com domain. Now that’s got seven blogs on it so the sites being down on it for any length of time isn’t good. However, I still had two of my websites and two blogs up and running while feverishthoughts.com was down.

The last time I had cpu overuse troubles, when I was with another host back in July, they suspended my whole account!

I’m still not sure if this was an attack or if I have traffic problems. My sites are busy … but I’m still not sure that they are busy enough to move to Virtual private hosting (VPS).

Well, just in case this issue crops up again soon I’d better start looking for VPS hosting. If anyone knows of a webhosting company that offers VPS and has very good service I’d appreciate hearing about them.

BTW I certainly hope that my sites behave over the long weekend. We’re having our family reunion so I won’t really be around much. I’ll either be away from home or when I’m here I’ll probably have guests. I don’t want to have my sites go down and have to worry about that while I’m trying to have fun with my family. That would suck.

Is my site loading a little faster?

August 24, 2007 by Tricia

Please tell me my site is loading a little bit faster. Please?

Late yesterday evening or early this morning I noticed that my blogs were hanging and not loading well at all. It seems that the blogcatalog widget was having trouble loading. In fact the blogcatalog site wasn’t loading either when I went to visit it.

I got fed up with waiting as much as ten minutes for my sites to load. So I went and took the mybloglog and blogcatalog widgets off my sites. I know they’ve each slowed my sites in the past and I know that this blog in particular can be slow loading.

I also realize that my sidebars load before the content. I’ve tried every way I know how to change my site so that the content loads first, but every time I try to change it my whole blog crashes. This theme just does not want to do anything but have the sidebars load first.

It might be time to change the theme.

So apart from the sidebars loading first. Do you think my page loaded a little bit faster when you visited today?

Please say it did.

Know of any good beauty, clothing or home decor affiliate programs?

August 24, 2007 by Tricia

Ok I need your help.

I’ve gone and started a new blog. Well I bought the domain back in April and I’ve slowly been working on the site. I’m not yet ready to reveal the site yet, but I will tell you that it’s a shopping blog where I talk about great products for the home, beauty products, clothing, home decor items and well … you get the picture.

I’ve lined up some affiliate programs for the site. I mean if I’m talking about products I might as well throw in a few links here and there and maybe make some money right? So I’m looking for online clothing stores that have good products to talk about and affiliate or partner programs.

Actually it doesn’t have to just be clothing stores. It can be any kind of online affiliate program or store that has products for the home, bath and beauty, decor and so on.

I don’t plan on making a site full of affiliate links or anything. It has decent content, but as I said if I can hook up with some good programs that will benefit my readers and myself I might as well do it.

So if you know of any great partner programs please feel free to let me know about them. I’m all ears.
