Silver and other precious metals as an investment

January 5, 2007 by Tricia

It seems these days that I’m all about money in one way or another – finding good deals so we can save our limited income, trying to put some funds aside in a high interest account in the bank, thinking about stocks, bonds and mutual funds, and now I’m looking at Monex Deposit Company. You see they sell silver coin and other precious metals as a form of investment.

Apparently world demand for silver now exceeds annual production of the precious metal.

It’s a worthy product to invest in now before stores of the stock piles of this metal go down further. MDC allows you to purchase silver and have it delivered for safe keeping to an independent bank or depository. The silver comes in coin, with currency value, or ingot form.

As I said I haven’t decided yet how I might invest my money, but I know that investing in a diverse amount of products or companies is usually a good idea, so perhaps one day I’ll have myself a little stockpile of silver or other precious metals.

Excellent web hosting at a great price

January 4, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve been looking, not too hard yet, for a new web host for my three domains and all my sites. I like the features that I have with my current host but my sites go down in the middle of the night quite often and I want to have as little down time as possible for my sites. Plus, it always seems to go down just when I’m working on a post and I’ll have to wait half an hour before I can publish a new post or I sometimes lose my post altogether. I hate that.

One of the companies that I think might be good for me to move over to is Lunarpages Web Hosting. Their basic web hosting plan starts at $6.95 per month and offers 800 GB of transfer, and 35,000 MB of storage. That’s more storage and transfer than I have now. I currently use about 35 to 40 gb of transfer with my sites. Wow, you know what- This is a good deal. My current plan offers me 200 GB storage space, and 4 gb storage for $12.95 a month. I’d rather pay $6.95 a month and get several times more space and transfer bytes and a free domain too! Yes, you get a free domain when you purchase a hosting package.

So here’s what you get when you sign up for their basic web hosting plan, on top of what I’ve mentioned above of course- you’ll get $700 worth of Coffeecup webmaster and design software, a free domain name and add on domain, an online control panel, MYsql data bases, Online stats, Ruby on Rails support (I think that’s unheard of for a basic hosting package), Fantastico, and media support plus a lot more features. Geez I’m almost ready to hit that sign up button. I really am.

Lunarpages.com has been in business for 6 years. That’s long enough to have established a good name for themselves. They provide a number of services which include basic, windows, Linux, VPS & dedicated hosting services.

One thing that I always look for when I look at hosting companies is their support services. I like that Lunarpages offers 24/7 customer support through telephone services, and I presume online through a contact form. They also have forums and a blog where a member or potential customer could get more information or support from the team and other members. There are a number of online tutorial articles which a member can access as well.

Another thing that I want to know about is how often their servers go down. Lunarpages says that they have a 99.9% uptime and reliable servers that are housed in two data centers.

Here’s something else that makes Lunarpages stand out as a very special kind of web hosting company. One that I think I very well might do some business with. They give webmasters that are stuck in a hosting contract a break. They will add paid time- up to 6 months- to a new customers account if they purchase a 12 or 24 month package.

Here’s yet another bonus that might make you switch or even ditch your free host and get your own domain. You can get a $25 discount off any 12/24 month Basic, Business, Windows or VPS plan. Coupon Code: lunar25off That’s amazing.

Additional domain names or domain transfers are 7.95 each.

Investing money and saving for the future

January 4, 2007 by Tricia

I have only one experience with buy stalk and it dates back to the days when I first owned my now closed Jewelry business. I was ill informed at the time and purchased what was suggested by the traveling “stock” salesman that came to my businesses door. Now I’m starting to think more about investments and setting myself up nicely for retirement. I know that retirement is a long way off but if I don’t begin to work on it soon I won’t have much when the time comes.

So I’ve decided to start looking at stock options, but first I need to learn more about them, and which companies are worth purchasing stock in. That’s where the stock options newsletter comes in from PowerOptions. They offer members a letter filled with information and resources about stock offerings and other important information about purchasing or selling stocks. The site is also full of resources that I can browse through in order to learn more about trading my stock options.

They also have a system that they call SmartSearchXL technology that allows members to find, compare, and analyze 2,900 + stocks, and 190,000+ options in order to find investments that suit the members needs. Their system will help you find the highest return on option trades.

I haven’t signed up for a membership yet but I might sign up for their 14 day free trial. I don’t even need to use my credit card when I sign up. I like that.

Home Invasions! Time to get an alarm system

January 3, 2007 by Tricia

When Chris and I first moved into our house we talked about getting a security system. One of the reasons why we discussed getting one is because our insurance company had told us that they would take a fairly good percentage off of the price of our home insurance if we had a security system, and the other reason was that Chris at the time seemed very paranoid about security.

Chris, when he was a student, used to live in a house house with number of other students. It was one of those Student co-op houses. He’d come from a small town and suddenly he was in the heart of downtown Toronto, one of the largest cities in North America. He slept with a baseball bat under his bed. Nothing ever did happen while he lived there.

When we lived in an apartment, at one point we started hearing about a number of break ins, so we installed a second security lock on the door. That wasn’t enough for Chris though – we end up with a security plate on the door as well that would help prevent someone from jimmying the door. So we had the security plate, two security locks and a door chain. I know some people have even more locks on their doors but too me this was a lot of locks.

When we moved into the house we didn’t have any reason to suspect that we weren’t moving into a safe neighborhood. After talking with many of our neighbors we learned that there’d been very little crime in the area in the time that many had lived in their homes- and some had lived in their houses for 40 + years. We felt safe.

Yet we did put up a security light in our driveway between our neighbors house and our own, and one on the back porch. It goes on if an animal or person walks down the drive. I love it when I’m out watering the garden late at night and I purposely trigger the light in the driveway and the back at the house to give me some light while I’m watering and watching out for raccoons or skunks. Honest – that’s mostly what our security lights have caught – raccoons and cats. No skunks so far although I’ve smelled there presence nearby.

Lately though, there’s been a number of home invasions in the neighborhood. I’m not certain that a security system would prevent that from happening to us since the people that do home invasions often knock on the door first and get into the house under some guise – perhaps stating they are a repairman checking television cable or telephone service in the area. Ether way, many security systems have cameras and perhaps that would help in that type of situation as well as providing some peace of mind towards our Home Security and our general safety.

wirelesssecurity.gif I’ve been looking at Safecall Wireless home Security System for a few reasons. One is that it’s wireless and since we are in the middle of renovating our home, tearing out walls, and putting new ones up a wireless system suits our needs. I’d hate to install a wire one and then end up taking out a wall that the wires were in. You can program it to autodial up to 6 different numbers in the event of break in, plus it has a lot of other great features that we’re interested in.

So I guess at some point in the near future I’ll probably be posting to tell you that we have a new home security system. I’ll let you know which product we decide to purchase but the wireless system sure sounds like it would be perfect for us.

Earn money as a WingSix affiliate

January 2, 2007 by Tricia

You know that I’m always trying to figure out how to make money online. I have to since it’s my only form of income these days. Well I think I might have found a wonderful High Payout Affiliate Program. Honest. It’s the Wingsix Hosting affiliate program.

The Wingsix affiliate area says that it pays out a highly competitive commission for every sale referred to them – from three month hosting packages to yearly packages and reseller packages.

They apparently pay $75 for 1 – 8 transactions/sales, $85 for 9 – 15, and $100 for 16+ transactions. That’s good money and you know what? There hosting packages really are quite reasonable. The lowest price for hosting that I see is $6.95 per month and it comes with a lot of great features. Heck, I might switch over to them since my host keeps going down in the middle of the night.
