I need a holiday!

April 3, 2007 by Tricia

My husband and I never seem to take holidays. Well, yes we do travel to various places but it always seems to be a family related event. Remember last summer we went to Chicago? Well we stayed with Chris’ brother when we visited. We also went to Ottawa that summer and stayed at my brothers. We want to go to Vancouver sometime in the next year and oh guess what? We’ll probably stay with another brother of mine when we go there.

Believe me it’s nice to be able to stay in someone’s home when you go on a little vacation. It certainly saves money, and often we end up staying with people that we don’t see very often so it’s a good chance to get together and visit.

We never seem to get away for a real vacation. What is a real vacation anyway? I’d love to go to one of the Caribbean island resorts, or perhaps to South America – maybe Costa Rica, or perhaps a lovely European vacation?

You know what I’ve been thinking about doing? Signing up for a membership with a club that has resorts all over the world. We wouldn’t have any excuse not to plan holidays to different parts of the world each year if we had a membership with one of the holiday clubs like leisuretime holidays. All we’d have to do would be decide where exactly we’d want to go and book it through the club. Then we’d end up staying in a luxurious resort for a week or two each year.

I could certainly go for that. In fact, that might be the only way we start taking regular holidays!

How about you? Do you take regular holidays each year? Do you go the same types of places over and over again, or do you try to go somewhere different for each holiday?

Great selection at discountflooring.com

April 1, 2007 by Tricia

All my week my head has been spinning with plans for our current renovation and our future renovation projects. The main thing that we need to do about our current project – the tin ceiling and finishing the living room – is to get the job done. It’s the other plans that I have to start thinking about.

As I figure out how we are going to renovate our kitchen and finish our basement I keep my eye out for companies that sell products that I might be able to use when we finally start to work on the next reno project.

One of the companies that I’ve just bookmarked is DiscountFlooring.com. They have great prices on brand name flooring products such as laminate, ceramic tiles, glass and wood. I’m pretty sure that when we renovate our kitchen I’d like to either go with wood or perhaps even cork flooring. We have laminate wood now but it doesn’t match the white oak wood flooring in the rest of the house and it wasn’t installed well, so whatever we do in the kitchen the current flooring must go.

I really like the selection of flooring products at discount flooring. I also really like how the site works. It seems that Discount flooring doesn’t actually sell the flooring products themselves. No. What they do is list a wide selection of flooring and tiling products made by a large variety of brand name manufacturers. When you find something that you like you click on the picture of it and a new page opens up where you can compare prices at several different stores. It’s a great idea. You’ll always be able to get the best price when you shop at DiscountFlooring.com.

As you browse through the pages of Discountflooring.com you’re accompanied by Jim the websites mascot. He looks like a big strong lumberjack type of guy or perhaps the perfect kind of person to install the flooring that you’re thinking of purchasing. Oh, speaking of installing flooring products another feature that will soon be part of the discountflooring.com site is the ability to find a local flooring installer. They don’t have any listings in that section just yet but they will soon.

All in all between the wide selection of flooring products and their soon to be created flooring installer area this seems like a great place to shop if you’re looking for the best possible prices on quality products.

Offer technical support to clients with Techinline Remote Desktop

March 29, 2007 by Tricia

Techinline has come out with a new program that they’ve called the Techinline Remote Desktop. This is a system that would allow a technical support business, IT personnel, or even a small office or home based computer and technical support company to view and diagnose technical problems on clients systems remotely.

The Techinline Remote Desktop system works with any windows OS, and is compatible with all browsers. It can be used to access and even control a clients desktop from anywhere in the world with just the use of a single browser. You can even allow clients to share your own desktop.

I can easily see this system being used by large technical support companies, however I can also see it being used by small home based support businesses and web designers. Think about how easy it would be to show a new design to a client or walk them through the steps of performing a routine computer task on their own with your remote help.

Even for someone like myself. I have a number of people that write to me and ask me “How do I do this?” “How do I do that?” each and every week. I could use a program like this to access their desktop and show them on their very own computer how to do many of the things that they ask me.

This Techinline remote Desktop system was not designed to access a computer where the client is not available on the other side at their computer. It’s not for controlling unattended PC’s.

As I said earlier the Remote Desktop application works with all OS systems including Windows Vista. It can make fast and secure connections in seconds. Remote desktops can be shared, as can local desktops. Techinline Remote Desktop has 128-Bit SSL encryption for a secure working environment and is Firewall/Proxy transparent.

For more information about the system and screenshots of the program please visit the techinline.com website.

Pricing for use of this program is reasonable as well. You may try it free for 15 days, or you can purchase the Techinline Remote Desktop service. An unlimited monthly plan costs as little as $19.95, or you can purchase the service by the number of sessions that you think you’ll need. Session packages start at 20 sessions for $40. Isn’t that a great price? You could be helping a client for as little as $2 per session – even less if you purchase the unlimited package of course. Visit Techinline for more information.

IDrive-E online backup

March 29, 2007 by Tricia

Do you remember back at the beginning of February when I had to suddenly change my web host and I didn’t have a back up our sites? I was in a total panic! Between my husband and I we’ve got 14 or so websites and blogs. The importance of backing up data regularly became very clear when that happened to me.

However, there’s times when you might not want to back up your data onto your own computer. What if something happened to your hard drive, or what if your hard drive just doesn’t have the space? Or perhaps kids use your home computer. You know how kids are always downloading things from the internet? How many times have you had to clean your computer of virus’ and spyware? Is your data really safe on your home computer after all?

Why not use IDrive-E Online Backup? You can safely and securely back up your data online. IDrive-E offers a free plan that allows you to store up to 2GB of data free of charge. If you own a business or have larger storage needs you can back up even greater amounts of data for the low price of just $4.95 per month. Their system is easy to use. Visit IDrive.com to see how they can help you store and backup your valuable data.

Personalize your posts and e-mail with a signature

March 28, 2007 by Tricia

livesignature.jpg

I think that most people try to personalize the e-mail that they send in some way. Often people will add their name and possibly a link to their website to the end of the e-mail that they are sending. In fact, most e-mail programs can be set up to do this automatically.

Wouldn’t it be nice to make your email signature even more personal? Well you can with My Live Signature. In fact, you can use the signature that you create on Mylivesignature.com in your e-mail, forum posts, blog posts, website, and documents.

I suppose that pretty much anywhere that you can attach or embed an image you could use your personal “MyliveSignature” image.

You can create an imitation of your signature using the signature creation wizard. The creation wizard is completely free to use. All you have to do is register for a free account on the MyLiveSignature site.

Using the signature creation wizard I typed in “Tricia P.”. Yes, my last name is probably easy enough to find, but for now we’ll just go with the initial for my last name. I was then taken to a page that listed examples of Tricia P. written in different font styles. I was given over 100 choices of styles.

I could chose from styles that were in very ornate, or old English style font or ones closer to true hand writing or printing. I’m left handed and I was pleased to see that some of the signature styles had the appearance of being written by a lefty.

I picked a signature that was close enough to my own handwriting style, and then clicked on the “next” button at the end of the page. On the next page I picked the size of the signature that I wanted, and after that I picked the color of the signature.

I was surprised, and pleased, to find that I still had more choices to make. The fourth step in the Signature creation wizard was to select the “Slope” or angle of the signature. I chose one on a slight slope to give it a more hurried and authentic look.

The final step was to simply name the file. When I clicked finished the file was saved as I’d named it “triciap” and I could access it from a menu on the left side of the page by selecting “Use my Signature”.

When I clicked on “Use my Signature” I was taken to a page that gave me a choice of HTML or BB code. I picked HTML code and was given two more choices as to how I wanted the final signature to look and then I generated the code.

Here’s the signature file that I created:

Isn’t that cool?

The MyLiveSignature.com site has a tutorial that you can go through to see all of the options you can use while creating a signature.

They also offer a service where you can submit an image of your actual signature and their designers will create a MyliveSignature” file of your real signature. If you’d like to use your real signature they have two options and the prices range from $9.95 for a scanned image, to $19.95 for an animated image. You can get 20% off the price of an animated signature right now.

I like how easy it was to create a signature file. You can easily create new signatures in different styles or colors to suit the site or document that you wanted to use them in.

I can see signature files from MyLiveSignature.com being used on blogs all over the world to give posts a personal touch.
