Why do we have more money living in a house than an apartment?

July 20, 2007 by Tricia

It’s amazing how much different our life is since we got our house six years ago. We’d been living in a small apartment, paying fairly low rent given the area – and we didn’t really have the same kind of bills that we have now that we have a house, but it always seemed like we were struggling to get by.

When we living in the apartment we were both paying off student loans, had a car payment, paid for cable, internet, car insurance, and telephone and paid our rent (only $725 which is cheap for a nice apartment in a good area of Toronto). We both had full time jobs that paid decently too.

I really have no idea how we got by without having applied for a student loan consolidation. We would have saved a lot of money on interest and our monthly payments probably would have been lower too.

Still we pushed on. The student loans were our biggest bills other than rent back then. I am glad that we don’t have student loans to pay off anymore. I’ve thought of going back to school but it’s the loans that scare me! If I ever do back to school you can bet your boots I’ll be consolidating the loans next time.

I think getting a house gave us more of a sense of responsibility. We used to buy what we wanted when we wanted. Now we think about it for quite a while. We still buy what we want but by the time we’ve put all that thought into it we’ve often saved the money to pay for that item outright.

I know our living expenses are higher in the house – mortgage, property tax, water bill, telephone, cable, cell phone, internet, electricity, oil for the oil furnace, insurance – no car or student loans anymore though, and yet we still seem to have extra money and I’m not even working these days.

Sure I make some pretty good money via the internet, but Chris makes less than he did when we lived in the apartment so income kind of evens out. As I said it must be just that we are more responsible with our money these days.

Deals and free samples at MySavings.com

July 19, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve never personally used this site, but when I’ve discussed other sites that offered savings and coupons MySavings has been recommended to me by my regular visitors as another great site for deals and coupon savings.

I think when viewing this site the easiest way to find whatever type of deal you might be looking for is to use the tabs across the top of the page. The various tabs lead to areas where you can find Free Product Samples, free services and software, Coupons, deals and if you’d like you can also get to the MySavings.com blog or forums using the tabs as well.

I can actually see why others have recommended MySavings.com to me in the past. I love the free product sample area. When you click on the tab there are pages and pages of products for which you might request a free sample. Many of these free samples are only for those living in the USA but it’s easy to tell at a glance if an offer is available in your country because there are little flag icons right in the listing. You can quickly scan through the pages of free samples to find offers available to you.

I might in fact spend a little bit of time finding free samples for Canadians later on this evening. Why not? I like trying new products out before I buy them.

When I clicked on the coupon area I was shown an area where I could register for a free account which would enable me to Get Free Samples and Printable Coupons such as online coupon codes, restaurant coupons, grocery coupons and a whole lot more.

Within any of the sites sections you’ll find hundreds of links to offers for real brand name free samples or coupons for brand name products. You’ll find samples for health and beauty items, cosmetics, baby products, diet pills, food, make up, electronics and just about any thing you could think of I believe. Offerings are updated weekly so you know the listings are current.

I think this is a great site if you are interested in saving money and trying products samples before purchasing a full size product. Visit MySavings.com yourself and see what you can save money on today.

Medicine the way it’s supposed to be practiced

June 26, 2007 by Tricia

Living in Canada and working in the health care field I can’t complain too much about our health care system. Well … sure you can always complain about something, but considering that people in other parts of the world don’t have access to health care I really can’t complain much.

Now, having said that, I know that the US health care system is very different that my own. I know that you generally need to have health insurance to get access to services that you need, and sometimes HMO’s don’t allow their clients to see the doctors that they want to see, or to have the tests that have been recommended.

Now I’m not going to get into all of that as that would be a huge post in itself. However what I did want to tell you about does have something to do with the level of service you might currently be experiencing.

If you are tired of not being able to see the doctors that you think you should be seeing, or not being able to see your doctor as often as you think you need to then you might want to take a look at the services provided by MDVIP.

MDVIP provides a service that’s somewhat like having your own concierge doctors. Even doctors seem to enjoy working with MDVIP because they can spend whatever amount of time they need to with each patient, they can counsel their patients properly about diseases and disorders that they have, or that they are at risk of getting because they have time to sit down and talk with each patient, and they don’t have to worry about tests and other services being declined by outside HMO’s.

Think about it from the patient side of things. Wouldn’t it be nice to make an appointment with your doctor to talk over all the symptoms you might be having? To actually sit down and get a full understanding of a disorder that you might have recently been diagnosed as having? Instead of being handed a pamphlet and being told that you’ll hear from another service about treatment?

Physicians at MDVIP focus on preventative medicine which is why they take the time to explain things to their patients and discuss concerns so that they can better evaluate a patient, their progress and their risk for future ailments and try to prevent those diseases or disorders from happening.

The doctors limit their practice to only 600 patients so that they can devote the proper amount of care and time to each individual in their practice.

As a patient you’ll get the MDVIP yearly physical which is a complete physical, a personalized wellness plan, same or next day appointments that last as long as needed, and access to your physician through a 24 hour pager or cell phone.

To me, this sounds like medicine the way it’s always been supposed to be practiced.

Please visit the MDVIP site to learn more about their services to see if this is a service that would suit your needs.

Never lose important messages again – Backup your E-mail

June 24, 2007 by Tricia

Have you ever turned on your computer and clicked on your email program only to have it crash because a virus was attached to one of the emails that you were collecting? Or perhaps for some reason your email program has crashed for no apparent reason?

It’s not fun is it? Especially if you end up losing some of your stored email or if your stored email gets corrupted!

It’s happened to me a few times and I happen to store a lot of important emails such as internet jobs I’ve completed and payments I’ve received in folders in my email program.

If you’ve had experiences like this you might be interested in a software program that will allow you to backup e-mail. Now you’ll never lose your stored email again!

What I really like about this program is that you can schedule e-mail backups. It would probably be a wise idea to schedule back ups once a week or even daily if you get a lot of important e-mail that you need to keep on hand.

Backup E-mail supports popular email applications such as Outlook Express and Microsoft outlook and you can even use the program to back up your internet explorer favorites too. Use the program to back up your address book, mail and news accounts, messages, blocked lists and store them in a single file that is compressed and can be password protected for security.

Check out the Backup E-Mail program at http://www.backup-email.com/ where you can download a trial version or purchase the full version for just $24.95.
