Funny Christmas Ecards

December 3, 2006 by Tricia

Do you ever send Ecards to your friends or families for their birthdays, special occasions or maybe for holidays such as Christmas? I don’t necessarily mean rather than sending out a real card, but perhaps in addition to sending a Christmas card? Well if you do I’ve found a site that carries a whole line of funny Christmas ecards that you might be interested in looking at right now.

Egreetings.com has a whole selections of ecards for every occasion, but since Christmas is coming up let me just tell you about a few of the ones that I really like right now. Who knows, if you tell me your address maybe I’ll send you one?

I really enjoyed watching the ecard “A christmas Pick me up” I don’t want to give away the whole thing because this is something you need to see rather than hear about, but lets just say it’s an Elf with the top 5 elf pick up lines. It’s cute, a bit raunchy and it’s very funny.

The one I like best is of course Snakes on a Sleigh it’s a parody of snakes on a plane – full of intrigue, revenge and horror and it’s hilarious!

These cards are really good. Plus I really like the site. If I become a member of the site I can receive a 30 day free trial of eCards and the yearly subscription is only $13.99. With cards this funny I think I’d be sending out more cards and getting my moneys worth. If I become a member I’d also be able to schedule the eCards to arrive instantly or on specific dates. I like that feature.

I’ll leave you with one more – A visit from Bad Santa – Don’t show your kids, they might be disappointed.

Prom dresses already?

December 3, 2006 by Tricia

My niece is going to be graduating next year from high school and she’s already looking around trying to find the idea prom dress to wear. Somehow, between her and her mother I got railroaded into helping her find the perfect dress. She wants to go shopping today! Today of all times when Christmas shopping is in full swing? Uh no hun. How about we see what’s online?

So I started looking around online and I found a site called Talk Prom Dresses where you can learn about the latest styles and where to buy them and even talk to others online about the various styles. I can’t believe the line of
2007 prom dresses. They look great. I’ve always thought of prom dresses as something like brides maid dresses – styles to be worn once and never again, but I was wrong. The styles for 2007 are quite nice. I’d be happy to buy one to wear to a wedding as a guest or for a nice evening out on the town.

Maybe helping my niece pick out her prom dress won’t be all that bad? Perhaps I’ll even find a new dress to add to my collection for the nights I feel well enough to go out and have some fun.

The aliens have landed

December 2, 2006 by Tricia

The Japanese have come up with yet another strangely compelling toy. Where the heck do they get these ideas anyway?

Now you can grow your own test tube alien – actually you can grow two of them if you purchase one of the Alien Adoption World Collectors Kits. Your kids would probably get a huge kick out of having their very own alien and watching it grow. Plus, as I said you get two aliens in the alien adoption kit so if you have two kids you’re all set.

How does it work? It’s simple really. When you, or your kids get the kit all you have to do is add water to the tube that contains the alien and the chrysalis inside will begin to bubble and crack open. Within a few minutes you’ll see that the chrysalis has become the beginning of an alien that will continue to grow for a few weeks. The brain, which contains a computer chip, appears first, then you’ll see the heart start beating. It just keeps growing from there.

The alien is interactive. You can take your alien to the research lab online and interact through signals using the infrared black white portal on the website. This portal communicates with your alien, but you’ll have to input your aliens reactions into the website.

The adoption kit contains two aliens, 2 video games and an alien head gurglin keychain, and a feeding material for your alien called sloog which will help your baby alien grow into a big strong alien. You’ll also receive a certificate of authenticity.

Have a look at this video to see how the alien grows and how it reacts with the portal. Now, do you think your kids might like their very own alien this Christmas? If you think they might then order before December 19th and you should get your aliens in time for Xmas.

Get yours today!

Crazy time of year for Jewellers

December 2, 2006 by Tricia

‘Tis the season, and no I don’t mean the Holiday season I mean the season for getting engaged. Back when I used to be a jeweller this would be the busiest time of year. From at least mid October and up until the first week or January I’d be busy working as much as 18 hour days putting diamond cut designs on bands, signets, bangles and other pieces of jewelry. I also did gold electroplating and made rubber molds so that jewelry pieces could be reproduced easily in wax form and then cast into gold by melting the was forms out of a hardened plaster of paris type of mix.

By Christmas time each year I was exhausted. I love Christmas but back in those days- having that one or two days off was nicer than the holiday itself. I swear in the few hours I slept each night during the busiest time of year I’d dream of all the designs that I’d do on wedding bands, engagement rings, and bracelets.

My husband Chris worked for another business, and well he wasn’t my husband at the time, he was still only my boyfriend. He did jewelry repair and he set stones in pieces as well. If we’d merged both of our talents into my business, plus kept my sister around with her engraving business we would have made a killing.

During that time of year Chris and I were not only working hard in our respective jewelry businesses but we also made jewelry for our friends. I don’t know how many times we’d bring home loose diamonds for our visiting friends to choose from, and then once they’d picked out what they decided was the perfect diamond for their soon to be fiance we’d make up whatever engagement ring they’d picked out. It’s a good thing that we both had good connections with diamond wholesalers because we’d often get discount prices on the diamonds our friends had picked out. Our friends always got a great price on any custom designed jewelry that we did for them. Lucky dogs!

My husband and I got engaged on New Years Eve, but we didn’t even have an engagement ring at that time. In fact I still don’t have an engagement ring. I really don’t care either. I don’t know too many people that work in the jewelry trade- I mean the people who actually make the jewelry – that really wear much jewelry. I have a fantastic collection, but I rarely wear it.

My sister is still an engraver and I know she’ll be working long hours this month. Ah, the life of a jeweller.

So when did you get engaged? And more importantly, what time of year did you start picking out your engagement rings and wedding bands? Are you one of the people that used to drive me nuts at this time of year?

Helping a relative find a nursing home

December 2, 2006 by Tricia

I spent some time on the phone earlier today talking with one of my aunts She’s living in Texas and while she’s originally from Canada she’s been living in Texas for at least 30 years or so. Her husband is older than she is by about 15 years and he hasn’t been doing well lately.

Caring for him has started to take it’s toll on her, and together she and her husband have decide that he’ll likely be moving into a nursing home or perhaps as a couple they might move into a retirement home with on site nursing care. It’s a tough decision to have to make for your spouse, or loved one or I presume even for yourself as you get older and can’t do all the things you used to do in the past.

I told my aunt that I’d try to look up some retirement and or nursing homes in her area for her. She doesn’t have a computer and I can certainly find things fast for her. Well I found a site called the Dallas hospice. There’s a lot of information on the site, and easy guides to help you find the type of care or facility that you’re looking for. I was impressed with the site and the amount of information on it.

I wrote down all of the information that I think will work for my aunt and her husband I’m going to be calling her later today. I feel kind of sad that they are going through this and have to make some tough decisions but proud that she came to me asking for some help and that I was able to help her.

Have you gone through this with your relatives? Finding nursing care or nursing homes? It’s hard isn’t it?
