Deja Vu Telephone call

December 21, 2006 by Tricia

I got up yesterday and discovered that my brother had called me while I’d been sleeping. I must have been sleeping so deeply that I didn’t even hear the phone ring, or if I did I certainly don’t remember it!

Anyway, I tried calling him back at work, but I didn’t get him, so I left a message. So while I was upstairs preparing for the day – showering, fixing my hair etc I brought the phone into the washroom with me. No I don’t talk to people on the phone while I’m doing my business … I just wanted it near by because I figured my brother would call back.

So I’m putting on my face – I had a doctors appointment later that day, gotta look good for that you know- and the phone rings. I look at the call display and I see “Stylistic Engraving”. Wow, that’s a flashback to the past from when I was a jeweler. Stylistic Engraving was my number one competitor when I was a diamond cutter. So I answer the phone by saying hello and I hear:

“I need you to engrave two rings rush, can you do it?”

So I said … uhm are you calling E … I say the name of my sisters engraving company, and she says yes. So I tell the lady that she’s reached E’s sister – AT HOME. LOL

I have no idea how she got my phone number or why she would call it. I suppose it must be listed in her book near my sisters business number but that still doesn’t explain why she’s got my home number. Now, while they were my business rivals we were friendly, and my husband did work for them when he was a jeweller as well. In fact Chris probably knew them a lot better than I did. So maybe our number was written in Chris’ name? I don’t know, but it was weird.

I don’t know how many calls I answered when my sister and I had our businesses together that started with my Hello and their demanding a rush engraving, design or gold plating job. However, I haven’t heard a request like that for … oh .. I don’t know .. maybe 15 years!

Strange stuff!

The next call I got I didn’t answer. It was the Korean agency that has supplied us with Student Boarders. I told them back in October that we didn’t want to have any boarders in the house around Christmas time. Since then they’ve called us at least three times offering us a boarder. The last one they wanted us to take in was a 14 year old. No way. We’ve said we’re done with taking in anyone below the age of 25 or so … so I’m certainly not taking in a kid.

My brother on the other hand never did call back. He’ll probably call sometime today.

Credit cards – love ’em or hate ’em?

December 20, 2006 by Tricia

How do you feel about credit cards? Are you the time of person that pays off your balance every month, or do you just pay the minimum amount that you have to pay? Or worse – do you fail to make some of your payments and end up getting into trouble with the credit card company?

I’ve been all of the above at one time or another. Currently I’m the type who either pays off the balance or more than the minimum asked for each month. It was a very hard lesson to learn.

Lucky for you, Credit Cards GB, has a wonderful site where you can get credit card advice if you are starting to have trouble with your cards, or if you just want to learn more you can read the credit card news for the latest credit card information.

The site lists the many different types of credit cards that you can get, including ones with 0% balance transfers. Check the site out if you want to get a card, or want to learn how to manage the cards you have better.

The cost of having a baby

December 18, 2006 by Tricia

There’s a new heath insurance related product called Maternity card, by AHCO, that was created to help ease the stress and worry over the cost of having a baby. I can see this Maternity card being especially useful for my American readers.

Having a baby can be an expensive proposition when you factor in all of the costs – your doctors visits, or perhaps you are having twins or have a complication to your pregnancy that requires you to be under the care of a specialist? Then there is the cost of the actual labour and delivery itself and your, hopefully, short hospital stay after the birth of your new baby. All of that adds up into the thousands doesn’t it?

The experts at Maternity Card can formulate a pregnancy discount medical plan for you to keep the cost of having your baby from going through the roof. Maternitycard will provide you with a comprehensive maternity package that includes everything related to your maternity care.

If you are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant in the near future you might want to visit Maternitycard.com and have a look at what they can do for you to ease your stress and worry over maternity expenses. This is a time for you to be happy and looking forward to the future – not worrying over money.

Ski liquidation sale

December 18, 2006 by Tricia

Do you ski? I haven’t skied for ages and I kind of miss it.

I live in a big city in Southern Ontario and to me, the whole area is flat compared to where I come from. You see I grew up in Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley and if you want good ski country, well that’s it. Not to mention all the great skiing just across the boarder in Quebec as well.

Ski Tel Inc is having a liquidation sale on Last Year Model Skis !. They apparently have 82,500 pair of skis in stock, and they are selling several pairs each day.

I took a good look at their site and they sell top name brands of skis, ski boots, snowboards and other products related to skiing as well. The brand names that stood out were Rossignol, Salomon, Atomic, Dynastar, K2, Ride, and Burton.

Now, as I’ve said I haven’t skied in years, but looking at the products that Ski Tel is selling I think the prices look more than reasonable. In fact, I’m getting a strong urge to get myself some Ski’s and head on over to Blue Mountain sometime very soon and go skiing. My husband says that he’s been skiing in the past as well, so I guess we’d have to get some gear for him too. Not only would it be fun to be on the hills skiing, the after ski part is fun too. There’s a lot of nice Ski resorts in this area – even if the skiing isn’t as good as it is back home, and the idea of warming up by a fire, sipping hot chocolate, staying in a log cabin resort over night. Mmmmm that sounds really good to me.

I think I have a plan … I just need to get uhmmm … two pair of ski boots, two pair of ski’s, two sets of ski wear and so on and so on. Alright so I have an expensive plan, but I have a plan. LOL Watch for us on the slopes in the New Year. Maybe you’ll join us with your new ski’s too?

Stag and Hen parties

December 18, 2006 by Tricia

It was a few years ago, while at work, when I first heard someone bring up the term Hen Party. I had no idea what they were talking about. I thought it must be some type of party where a bunch of women got together and gossiped. It turns out that I was at least half right. A Hen party is what we call over here in North America a Bridal shower, or more likely since it seems much more fun and party like perhaps a bachlorette party.

Well now I can say that I’ve been to a Canadian version of a Hen Party. I’m sure it wasn’t quite like they have in the UK but it sure was fun. Now I’ve just learned a company in the UK that specializes in organizing Stag and Hen weekend trips and parties worldwide. The company is called Red Seven Leisure Co. I’ve been looking over some of their get togethers and Hen and Stag weekends and they sound amazing. Imagine you’re about to get married, and you can have one last night or weekend on the town with your closest friends- but what town will it be? London, Paris, New York? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could choose to have a Stag and Hen party anywhere in the world?

Red Seven Leisure can plan themed Hen parties for you- costumed, Fany Dress, whatever you are looking for, well just about, they can put together for you. The site lists popular Hen or Stag night, and weekend packages but they’re happy to tailor make a party or event for you. Just contact them and let them know what you’d like.

Now the next time one of my UK friends talks about a Hen party I can tell her about Red Seven and maybe they can organize something here in Canada?
