I enjoy a good read

January 2, 2007 by Tricia

I love my magazine subscriptions. I look forward to their weekly or monthly delivery and devour the magazines within a day of their arrival. Do you enjoy reading a good magazine? Which ones are your favorites?

Magazines Direct has subscriptions for all of the popular Magazines that many of us read regularly. If you are looking to expand on your subscriptions – perhaps to start reading a fitness magazine to help you with your New Years resolution – you might want to check out Magazines Direct. They have over 1300 different magazines to subscribe to.

Sometimes when I’m trying to figure out what kind of gift to give someone I’ll throw in a Magazine subscription to one of their favorite magazines. Luckily Magazines Direct also offers gift subscriptions and each one comes with a lovely hand written greeting card too.

Check them out.

Earn money as a WingSix affiliate

January 2, 2007 by Tricia

You know that I’m always trying to figure out how to make money online. I have to since it’s my only form of income these days. Well I think I might have found a wonderful High Payout Affiliate Program. Honest. It’s the Wingsix Hosting affiliate program.

The Wingsix affiliate area says that it pays out a highly competitive commission for every sale referred to them – from three month hosting packages to yearly packages and reseller packages.

They apparently pay $75 for 1 – 8 transactions/sales, $85 for 9 – 15, and $100 for 16+ transactions. That’s good money and you know what? There hosting packages really are quite reasonable. The lowest price for hosting that I see is $6.95 per month and it comes with a lot of great features. Heck, I might switch over to them since my host keeps going down in the middle of the night.

karaoke Neighbors

January 1, 2007 by Tricia

Enough about Sofie my little old lady stalker neighbor … this time I wanna talk about my gawd awful Karaoke singing neighbors!

They Are Driving Me Nuts!

Friday, beginning sometime around three p.m. I began to hear what possible might have been country music through the walls of my home. The sound was coming from the adjoined neighboring house … the Karaoke neighbors. The music was accompanied by what can only be described as the sound of wailing dogs left out in the cold and howling to get in. Yes, they were singing.

OH my Gawd, they were singing?!?!

They continued on through the evening, at least until 11:00 pm. It was unbearable! The music changed but unfortunately if anything the singing was worse. We’ve been through this before. They were probably partying and drinking. The music gets louder and louder through the night- probably thanks to an unhealthy dose of alcohol, and unfortunately the singing only gets worse.

People, no matter what they believe, do not sing better when they’ve been drinking.

That was Friday ….

This is now early Monday morning.

They took Saturday off.

Unfortunately, they did not take Sunday off.

I was sick all day Saturday. Actually it started Friday night. I’m only guessing that their music stopped at 11 pm Friday because I fell asleep on the couch to escape my pain and perhaps them as well. Saturday was not a good day for me – fevers and pain in my belly all day. I took it easy because I wanted to go with my husband to see his brother and the rest of his family for New Years Eve. I didn’t make it though. I felt a bit better on Sunday but not enough to be able to go out and party all night.

So I’m home. Spent the afternoon and a good portion of the evening working on my sites. I actually felt like I got something accomplished without Chris hovering around me.

At about 8:30 pm the horrid Karaoke began again. It was sporadic, but very very loud. I didn’t want to go and knock on their door because I’m feeling yucky and look horrible. Wait a minute that might have actually helped!

Instead I spent my time yelling at the walls. Yeah … I’m hoarse now from yelling at them to shut up – not from screaming as the year changed. What a twit huh?

If you are picturing a woman, no make up, dressed in sweats and looking ill, holding her hands cupped around her mouth and yelling loudly at a wall while stomping her feet, well yeah, that’s me you’re seeing. Now forget you ever saw that, and we won’t speak of it again.

Their house quieted down sometime after 10. I thought I’d lucked out and that maybe they went to a friends. They must have gone somewhere, but not for long because around 11:30 I started hearing a lot of loud voices and thumping feet over there, and the sound of microphones being dropped – you know that bang and hiss they make when they fall and their turned on and the sound comes out the speakers. Yeah. Not nice.

Right after midnight the Howling music began. I swear it sounds like they are in some big empty warehouse. Their music and singing almost echoes. I can’t make out the words to their songs but they sing so bad I doubt I could if I was in the same room.

Christmas Eve was like this too, but if anything their awful music and singing was better than it was Friday or today. I can’t believe they’ve managed to get worse through the week! My husband refused to complain about it last Sunday, no matter how much I plead with him to go over and knock on their door. He said it was Christmas Eve .. leave them alone. Yet he complained all week about how loud they’d been last Sunday. Yeah … whatever Chris.

Calling them doesn’t help. They can’t hear the phone. Heck I can’t hear my phone at times since it sounds like they are in MY living room. Knocking on the door doesn’t help much either. When we’ve complained in the past they tone it down for a bit, and look at us like there’s something wrong with us complaining about their music. They claim that they can’t hear us. Well, let me tell you – I can hear them. All __ The __ Time!

It’s actually just about 1 a.m. and if they don’t stop soon I’m going to go bust their door down. This is really inconsiderate. I am very angry at them right now – so angry in fact that I might even call the police. I’ve never done that to anyone before.

I know it’s New Years and I really don’t mind people having fun … I like to have fun too, but if you were here and you could hear how loud and how awful the sound is you’d be wanting to call the police too. It sounds like they are IN my living room. Going upstairs doesn’t help either because it’s almost as loud. Plus, this is the third time in a week that they’ve driven me nuts with their loud awful singing.

Once I can forgive, three times in a week, uh huh.

This time I will be complaining.

The real problem is that they are actually very nice people, and overall they are good neighbors to have. They don’t do this very often anymore. They used to all the time, I think our complaints and actually bringing them into our home to hear how loud they were helped a bit.

I’ve already told Chris that our next home will be DETACHED. No more semi-detached for me, thank you very much.

Hmmm now I’m done editing this post and it’s 1:10 am .. I heard noise at their front door and I think their guests might be leaving. The karaoke stopped about 10 minutes ago too. Keeping my fingers crossed that it’s over.

Belated Christmas Gift for Chris – Concert Tickets

December 31, 2006 by Tricia

As you know Chris and I didn’t get Christmas gifts for each other this year. Finances are just too tight. We’re fine, but right now we just can’t over spend on anything. I’m pretty sure our financial situation will get better in January and better each month afterwords. I’ve been working on a few things and expect to start seeing some profit from my work around that time.

I sort of got my Christmas present early this year anyway. Remember I got a laptop in August? Yeah, we can call that my September Birthday gift, and my Christmas gift too. I’m fine with that. So … since I already got my gift, I’m now wondering what nice thing I can do for Chris in the new year when our finances are better?

I know he loves the Dave Matthews Band. A friend from Louisiana put us onto the band many many years ago. We were surprised to hear that Dave Matthews is actually Canadian but he’s made the majority of his success in the US. The band is so good they even won a Grammy in 1997 for Best Rock Vocal performance by a duo or group for the single So much to Say. We both enjoy the band, but Chris as I said is a big fan. It always seems like the Dave Matthews band is touring or playing somewhere as we hear about them quite often but we’ve never managed to see them play yet.

Now, I know they are playing in L.A. in March. March 23rd and 24th to be exact. I don’t know if we can make it to an L.A. concert, but I think I might investigate purchasing some Dave Matthews Band Tickets. That would be a perfect belated Christmas gift for Chris. If I can manage to make it a surprise that would be even better.

Wish me luck on my hunt!

Enjoy the luxury of a wake up call

December 31, 2006 by Tricia

You know one of the things that I absolutely love when I travel and stay in a hotel? It’s the wake up call that you can get the people at the desk to give in the morning. I get tired easy when I travel and I always worry if I’ll wake up on time. Oh sure I bring my own little travel alarm clock with me, but it’s failed a few times – just plain didn’t work. If I’m traveling and I simply have to get up I can’t be relying on an alarm that may or may not work. Same thing with the hotel room alarm clocks – they don’t always work well either. So I ask for a wake up call. It’s so nice.

Do you agree that wake up calls are nice? Maybe even that they’ve saved your butt a few times? Yeah I thought so.

I bet that you’ve even thought that it’d be nice to have a wake up call at home sometimes too? I’m lucky, if I sleep in my husband usually wakes me up, but if he’s already gone to work or if he’s out of town? Yeah – I’ve been late for work because I’ve slept through the alarm. luckily that’s only happened once or twice, but still, you just feel awful when that happens.

I’m pleased to be able to tell you that you can have a wake up call at home if you want to. Yes, I’m not pulling your leg. There’s a site that you can go to, it’s located at Snoozester.com . This site provides a service that will provide you with wake up calls anywhere, any place, any time.

Just log into the site and sign up for an account. Once you’re registered you can start scheduling your wake up calls. You can schedule the wake up calls to go to any phone number or cell phone that you’d like. You just register and an account, add in your phone number and perhaps your cell number and start schedule wake up calls. It’s that easy. You can even choose to have your wake up calls delivered to you by Snoozester Characters. The characters are fun voices that greet you when you answer the wake up call. You can select from a number of Character voices whenever you schedule a wake up call.

Then there’s a service called Secure Awake – it’s for people that know they don’t wake up easily. This feature tells Snoozester to repeatedly telephone you until you answer the phone. It will call you every three minutes for 20 minutes. When you answer you can select number 1 to confirm that you are awake, or push number 2 to tell snoozester to let you sleep for a while longer and call you back.

The site is very easy to use – just follow the steps in the registration process, and then follow the step by step process to begin scheduling your wake up calls. You get 10 free wake up calls when you sign up with Snoozester. You can sign up for a variety of packages that provide you with a certain number of calls per month. The packages range from 3.99 to 14.99 per month. They even have gift certificates available in case you know someone who could really use this service.

You can learn more about this service by reading through their site or by visiting their sleep blog. Also, if you own or work for a large company with employees that might need regular wake up calls you can visit their Corporate Snoozester site. Contact their customer service if you have questions that aren’t answered on their site, they promise to reply very quickly.
