You can use Spock to easily search for people and information

November 15, 2007 by Tricia

Have you visited Spock yet?

Spock is a people and information search engine. You can use the site to find information and links to sites with more information about your favorite celebrities, politicians, authors, musicians, places, or countries or a whole variety of things for which you can think to create a search.

When you visit Spock.com you can easily search by the name of a person or by the “tag” that might have been placed on listed information. A tag could be the type of industry the person works in or the form of entertainment they perform just as guitar player, entertainer, musician and so on.

Really the best way to tell you about Spock is to show you how it works. I signed up at Spock in order to access the sites full features. Did I mention that Spock is completely free to use?

If you’ve been reading my site for a while you know I have a great variety of interests from photography to gardening to music to being sure to watch my favorite television shows.

I enjoy the television show Heroes. I like most of the characters on the show equally so I decided to just do a search for Heroes on Spock. The first page of results were individual listings for many of the main in the cast of Heroes. The other pages that came up had other people with the word “heroes” associated with them such as David Bowie.

I decided to narrow down my search by clicking on the tag within the listing for Masi Oka otherwise known on the show as Hiro the time shifter. I clicked on the tag “Heroes (TV Series) Cast”. This gave me four pages of results with 39 listings for all the actors that take part in Heroes. I bet you didn’t know there were that many actors in the show did you?

Beside each actors listing there’s a series of tags that have been left by Spock members. Some of the tags lead to movies or other TV shows that each actor has been in, in the past or to news stories, interviews or possibly fan listings for each star.

Now if I knew of something that suited the listing that came up in my search, perhaps a movie that an actor had stared in or a wiki page I could easily add a tag of my own by clicking on the “add tag” link underneath each listings tag area. Site members can click on the little arrow beside each search result tag in order to vote yes or no as to whether the tag is appropriate for the listing.

Besides tags, when you do a search on Spock, you’ll also see a short description beside each search result, as well as links for the full tag listing, photos, related people and news. Below that you’ll find links to web pages that have information about each search result.

Hopefully you can see how one simple search could set you off on a journey either exploring other areas of Spock or sending you out into the Web where you’ll find more specific information.

I’m sure that you can see how the results of a search on Spock might be helpful to you, but what else can you do with it? Well, you can email the results to yourself or to someone else who might be interested in the information that you found, or you can click on the word “text” which is to the right of the search results and convert the listed result into a simple list that only includes a link to the information page for each search result on Spock.

There is one thing that you might want to try if you’d like to share the information that you found with your readers. You can create a widget in order to show you search results within a blog post.

When you click on the Widget you’ll be taken to a page where you can get the code for a flash or a javascript widget.

I missed all the good Vegas food!

November 14, 2007 by Tricia

One of the things that I’m disappointed I didn’t get to do while in Vegas was go shopping. Before we left I’d discovered that there’s a huge discount shopping mall about 10 miles from the strip and I’d hoped to get over there. My wardrobe needs some freshening up and since the Canadian dollar is higher than the US dollar right now I might have really found some deals and saved some money too.

I’m not sure what I would have purchased as I need a little bit of everything from more casual clothes to dressy clothes. Perhaps some port authority clothing, and some shoes too? I don’t know.

As it is the only new clothing I came back with were some t-shirts, a B-5 media baseball cap and two CSI Las Vegas t-shirts. I love that tv show and since I was in Vegas I had to buy a shirt.

I also kept hearing how great the food in Vegas was supposed to be, but the only restaurant that we made it to was The Outback. We have that restaurant here and while the food was good I was hoping to get a chance to eat at restaurants or eat food that I don’t get a chance to eat very often. I think most of the rest of our meals were room service as I was too sick to go anywhere on Friday and room service certainly came in handy for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.

We really did enjoy Vegas though – despite my illness and a few complaints. Hopefully we’ll go back sometime in the new year. If we go back we’d like to go when the weather is similar to what we experienced this past week. It was always pretty much between 70F and 80F and very comfortable.

Getting ready for Las Vegas

November 7, 2007 by Tricia

Speaking of Ugly Betty … I’ve kind of felt like her over the last two weeks as I’ve been busy buying new clothes for my trip and well, just because I really did need some new clothes!

Around home a t-shirt and sweat pants are just fine and since I’ve been quite the home body since I got really sick two years ago I haven’t been updating my wardrobe all that much. I really haven’t had to … until now.

I must say that it’s a little intimidating to go into a clothing store when you feel a little out of touch with what’s in fashion these days!

If I was just going to the blogging conventions in Vegas I wouldn’t worry about it all that much, but on Saturday night the Bl0ggers Ch0ice Awards are being held in the TAO nightclub which of course is a hot celebrity night spot and very trendy … so I’ve got to look the part.

I think I managed to do ok shopping and what I’ll be wearing should be acceptable. I think that’s the only place that we’ll be going that I’ve really got to worry about my appearance in any great way. You don’t have to really dress up for the casinos do you? It sure doesn’t look like it when I watch shows like CSI Las Vegas.

Oh and when I looked up what kind of temperature Las Vegas would be in November last month I read that it’s usually only about 65 F during the day and mid 50’s at night … well, I checked the weather there earlier today it was 78F and right now it’s 82F … so much for those nice sweaters I bought. I’ll have to be sure to pack some t-shirts now!

Anyone have any quick Vegas tips for me?

I’ve already been warned by a nurse that just came back from Vegas to NOT wear my contacts while I’m there since the air is so dry. Well that won’t happen! I’ll be wearing my contacts on Saturday at the very least.

BTW I’m still sick! More on that later!

Suffer from Irritable bowel or a digestive disorder?

November 7, 2007 by Tricia

Earlier in the week when I posted that I was very sick due to my Crohn’s disease one of the people who left a comment suggested that I try an Aloe Vera drink to sooth my symptoms.

Shortly after receiving that comment I came across the Serovera website where they sell a product that is made up of the healing agent Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharides that is found in Aloe Vera plants.

This supplement, when taken regularly for a period of time, is said to help with the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Colitis, Crohn’s and diverticulitis.

Serovera is an all natural supplement. Research has shown that the main ingredient in this product, Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharides, help to decrease inflammation, promote healing and boost the bodies immune system. It does this by helping to fortify the cell walls, improves cellular metabolism as well as helping with constipation and diarrhea.

The site actually has a whole list of disorders that Serovera can help with such as Acid reflux, autoimmune disorders such as Crohn’s, Ulcerative colitis, Lupus, and Rheumatoid Arthritis, as well as several types of Ulcers and other disorders, particularly digestive disorders.

I might give this product a try myself. I’m having a terrible time lately and this sounds like it could help.

If you have any of these disorders or know of someone who does you might want to visit the Serovera website where you can learn more about the benefits of this all natural supplement, read testimonials, FAQ’s and order Serovera if you are interested. You’ll also find a number of informative articles about Serovera and the disorders that benefit from the supplement.

Shopping coupons and deals just in time for the holidays

November 2, 2007 by Tricia

So is everyone starting to think about shopping for the holidays? I know I am. Every time I go out to a store or even as I browse online I try to look for things that the people on my shopping list might enjoy. This might be the first year that I actually get my shopping well in advance of the holidays!

I’ve got another coupon site that you might want to take a look at. It’s called Abusaki.com and the site is filled with discount coupon codes. There are a number of well known stores listed such as Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Fredericks, Target, Overstock and more.

You can search through the site listings to find a particular store or you can browse for Coupon codes and Free Shipping offers within the category listings. Shopping categories include clothing, accessories, auto-tools, baby, books and magazines, office, toys and games, computer electronics, financial, food and wine, gifts, flowers, health and beauty, hobbies, home and garden, jewelry, movies, music, sports, fitness and travel.

One way that this site differs from other coupon sites is that you can look around the site for coupon codes that you’d like to use while you shop on line, but you don’t have to use them immediately. Nope. You can store them in a basket and use them when you are ready. Abusaki.com also clearly lists when coupons are set to expire so if you store some coupons in your basket be sure to use them before it’s too late.

If you’re starting to shop for the holidays like I am visit Abusaki and see if you can find some deals.
